  1. The pressure wave is showing on local weather stations here in the last few hours. Eg Personal Weather Station Dashboard | Weather Underground WWW.WUNDERGROUND.COM Weather Underground provides local & long-range weather forecasts, weather reports, maps & tropical weather conditions for... The volcano geeks are saying this is unprecedented in modern times, basically the biggest bang since Krakatoa.
  2. Very moody at Langsett Reservoir in the fog today. It was surreal standing at the waters edge unable to see the surface because it was perfectly still and smooth, and the fog meant no reflection of the far hillside.
  3. Fun to watch the inversion while driving over Woodhead. 4c in Tintwistle, up to 7.5c just before the top when we drive into the fog. Still doggy on the east side and 1c.
  4. I hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine yesterday morning, because it looks to me like gloom all the way to the big day now. Relatively warm aloft: Steadily cooling off at ground level: But the dewpoint not much lower: = humidity, fog and low cloud. Gloomy Murk, Gloomy Murk, Gloomy all the way!
  5. Did they just repeat the weather forecast from yesterday after the local news on BBC1? I think they did, I always thought it was broadcast live but evidently not!
  6. I just about managed to stave off hypothermia running the safety boat at Leigh and Lowton this afternoon. Slightly amazed that they decided to go for it given the very light wind, but it did pick up a bit around three as the last big snow shower moved over. And a good info on the ground when we got home, plus bonus pretty trees.

  8. At Pennington Flash, hoping for enough wind to sail. Can't see Winter Hill, there's too much winter in the way.
  9. I can hear the EastJet AMS-LPL that has just failed to land at MAN going over the house on its way around for another go. Plus a lot of that wind noise! Puzzled at the fights diverting from Leeds to Manchester, given Leeds runway orientation.
  10. DPs just below freezing. I think everyone will see some flakes, but not all will see them stick, myself included!
  11. Quite a wave in the rain line, looks more like a waving front than the forecast trough. Back from a few days in Snowdonia, where the worst of the rain was always overnight, and Aber Falls are in spectacular full flow today.
  12. So, after a wet week, it looks like we're back in the dry. I don't think that's going to help reservoir levels one bit. United Utilities - Reservoir levels WWW.UNITEDUTILITIES.COM Details about the levels of water in our main reservoirs - updated weekly A local site shows 83mm last week, after just 17mm in the previous 5. Personal Weather Station Dashboard | Weather Underground WWW.WUNDERGROUND.COM Weather Underground provides local & long-range weather forecasts, weather reports, maps & tropical weather conditions for locations worldwide. Is this the new normal: a wet week followed by a month-long near-drought?
  13. This time-lapse from Meteosat 9 shows the annual variation in solar angle in a way I've never seen before.
  14. Same here, but it only lasted 5 minutes and has just left us more humid than before. Now sweltering in the home office.
  15. Frequent thunder from the little shower that just passed quickly over Aldeburgh.
  16. Well, if you squint hard enough at the ensembles, you might see something above average...
  17. Oh dear! LIVE updates: Trafford General Hospital is on fire after being hit by lightning strike - Manchester Evening News WWW.MANCHESTEREVENINGNEWS.CO.UK Pictures from the scene show smoke billowing out of the top of the hospital
  18. Steady rain here for the last hour or so, some heavy bursts, with an intermittent thundery soundtrack. The dog is petrified!
  19. Brighter now, some weak sunny spells. Those showers over North Wales have just grown on the spot without moving much, looks tasty towards the Wirral and Liverpool way now.
