  1. I have to agree. Its not only how quiet the sun has gone but both the depth and speed of the fall off. Yes the sun has gone quiet before but not to this extent in a time when we have been able to record the levels accurately. This winter and the next few years are going to tell us a lot about the true impacts of the Sun on our climate.
  2. probably coincided with the big uptick in flux activity we saw in early october
  3. Sunspot numbers in some form go way back to the last grand minimum. However our ability to record flux values certainly do not and probably only go back 50 years at most and certainly not back to the last grand minimum.
  4. I fully expect that we will see lower figures and would not be surprised to see sub 60. We have not had such a low minimum during the 'recorded' era so totally new setups for us all to digest and their associated impacts
  5. If you notice the sunspot number is always 11 when you can't see anything!!!
  6. Spotless again today and F1o flux below 70. These single days are usually 11 or 12 makes you wonder if they would have been remotely visible using the old method!!
  7. If people can't make an argument or comment without swearing then I would question their ability to put together a sensible point!!
  8. Correct given 2680 appears to be waning and the count yesterday was 11 and today is 22
  9. yes spotless tomorrow or day after. F10 flux after being up to 120+ is now back down to low 70's I think we may well see these sudden spikes in activity in an otherwise sleepy sun over the next 3/4 years
  10. I would imagine the so called spot with a count of 12 will be gone tomorrow and back to spotless
  11. looks to be considerably lower than that predicted for cycle 24
  12. Is there any way we can compare day time average and night time average to see where the driver for above average temps lie because it certainly doesn't feel like its day time temps?
  13. Shame to see an end of the daily laymans sunspot count due to computer failure its moving to a quarterly update
  14. Daily Sun: 16 May 17 A new, unnumbered sunspot is emerging at the circled location, breaking a string of 7 consecutive spotless days. Credit: SDO/HMI Sunspot number: 0 What is the sunspot number? Updated 16 May 2017 Spotless Days Current Stretch: 0 days 2017 total: 37 days (27% How does the above work. say's sunspot number is 0 but not a spotless day?
  15. Wow and to think it was projected to be 2020 at the latest now we have to wait 50 years!!!!!
  16. lag times if the sun activity had such an immediate effect we would see it every day we don't. the changes are subtle and take time as patterns change and built up heat from the previous very high active cycles disapates
  17. I was talking to my sister in New York at the week end and their daffs are still to come out blossom is late and they have only just started getting seasonable temps
