It doesn't go one way though the anomalies of cold everywhere are also climate change. Systems just got stuck so either held cold or warm in one place for ages. Hence all the anomalies this year. If you look back, it actually not normal for so many records, hot or cold to go in one summer. I'm afraid people are arguing over the same side of the coin. Climate change is what we are talking about, and the speed it's happening.

Explain how co2 is holding those patterns then I might belive your climate change claim as th cause

I've been watching the series about he planet earth and is amazing how many times nature has tipped the balance and caused a dramatic shift like the trees that locked up all the co2 and caused an ice age.  We now burn that stuff as coal sending the co2 back into the air. Since we are nature we are basically causing a repeat of the cycle. Sadly our ever expanding population will be the end of us. The planet will recover and perhaps in a few millions years the next top species will puzzle as to why we went extinct as the did most other animals at the time and the cycle will start again.

One statement I would disagree with is 'our ever expanding population ' it is clear if anything we will very soon reach peak population and will start to see a decline in population.  Hence why you see China encouraging larger families and failing.  As more countries become less poor and infant mortality falls the need for large families decrease

I would expect that within 50 years max we will see population decline

  3. Thanks Snowbear

Water Vapour is a very powerful greenhouse gas and to see such a sudden increase in the atmosphere rather then the gradual change as is the case with CO2 I would image is little understood. Our present extremes be it hot weather cold records or flooding events are probably down to this volcanic event. Once the science catches up I wonder if the blame game will be adjusted for these extreme events personally I doubt it.

I'm so disappointed I didn't know there was a good chance to look.
I used to like the members updates 'what's on your mind' on the side of
the site here. Some kind folks used to quickly put up a 'heads up'
notification there that caught my eye.

good chance tonight as well as a second strong solar wind may well intensify what happened last night. May well take a trip onto the moors tonight and hope for some clear spells.

I have no plans to pursue the EV trend now or in the future.

I can't see this or any other government getting their act together and driving forward with such a massive challenge.

No new ICE cars from 2030 is utter madness. I know plenty  who have stated that they intend on getting a new car in 2029 and keeping it for as long as they can.

problem is come 2029 it is unlikely any petrol cars will be being made

I've skied on Mount Sima in the Yukon, Canada, and at Stowe, Vermont, USA and at both resorts the cut-off temperature at which the mountain would be closed for skiing was -25C. The reason given was the risk of frostbite on exposed skin. My daughter was living in Whitehorse near Mount Sima at the time and I have to say it's quite something to experience ice forming on your eye lashes. It makes blinking feel very strange! 😄

Loved sking Stowe even went to the Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory whilst the wife went to the Von Trapp lodge. Nothing better than a New England breakfast with muffins in the afternoon

On face of it the ECM op seemed out of kilter but enough GFS perturbations supporting that to think it isn’t outlandish.  I have in my mind that around 25th there’s a trough dropping N to S to our east (affecting east UK?) with HP to our west.  I too am with Mike P that this HP will then loop over to link with the Russian HP/HP to E/NE.  Whether this leads to bitter easterlies or is a slack affair I’m up in air about but comfortable with the ‘general’ evolution.  (Wonder if we got some X flares to strike us…massive earth facing sunspot currently crackling away).

Given the strong likelihood this may occur over the next day or so what do you and others thing the impact would be o the upper atmosphere?

So where do you learn to ski then? A ski centre indoor building thing? Or on actual real snow? Going down a mountain is somewhat terrifying. Known me I would break all my legs and arms as i'm somewhat accident prone. So maybe it's not a good idea after all!!

I've skied the indoor slopes at Hemel. Manchester and Castleford and they are good for beginners as they are short not to steep so you can't get that much speed up so ideal to learn on before venturing out on the real stuff

I recall a few years ago hearing about some intrepid walkers completing the Lyke Wake walk across the N Yorkshire Moors entirely under cover of darkness at the winter solstice, so 42 miles from Ravenscar to Osmotherley in c 17 hours. I wonder whether that still happens?

I've done the Lyke Wake a few times but only in summer usually starting at around 10pm and always enjoyed the night time. Can't say I would enjoy it this time of year though. Best time was about 13 hours.
