  1. First fence panel down, or at least halfway down as it's still attached to a post at one side. Gusts seem to be peaking in the 60s here, haven't quite made it to 70mph although it looks like a few places in the central belt have.
  2. Getting quite blowy... gusting into the 60s frequently, trees flapping about a fair bit and a constant roaring sound accompied by the odd crash as bins go flying.
  3. Gusts seem to be increasing again after staying relatively steady for the last 3-4 hrs. Frequent gusts into the 50s now occasionally nearing 60mph.
  4. Peak winds forecast for between 10 - 11pm here. The met keep increasing the predicted speeds, now up to 36mph sustained with gusts of 66mph.
  5. 55mph gusts and heavy horizontal rain currently, next doors for sale sign is hanging on grimly.
  6. Drumalbin is my 'local' station even though its about 20 miles away and significantly higher. The peak gusts in Lanarkshire are still in the 50-55mph range.
  7. It's really a case of waiting to see if those 60-70 mph gusts forecast between 9pm and 1am for the central belt materialse. If they do then it was Amber worthy but if not then a yellow would've been enough here as the current peak gusts are only around 50mph.
  8. Definitely picking up quite a bit now. Mostly around 40mph but occasionally reaching 50mph, heavy rain back on too.
  9. Picking up a bit but still only gusting to around 40mph. Met and bbc both suggesting 50 mph by now.
  10. Gusts only into the 30s so far here, still raining though with big puddles in the garden.
  11. Not much wind here in the central belt at the moment although it has been raining heavily for a few hrs now.
  12. This looks to have higher winds speeds across many northern areas than tomorrow's storm.
  13. Dec 26th 1998 and Jan 3rd 2012 for me. The Jan 3rd storm was nothing unusual until the sting jet lined up perfectly with the central belt. 90 mph gusts for about 40 mins then it was completely calm less than an hour later, very odd. I remember seeing people up ladders fixing their roof on almost every street in the area over the following few weeks. It was quite disorientating at the time, everything was moving, the windows were bulging and shuddering and the trees were bent almost horizontal.
  14. 85mph in inland parts of the central belt is absolutely not a once in 3 year event. I'm 33 and I've only experienced 80mph + here twice.
  15. Met have finally upgraded their wind gusts to be more in line with the BBC. Peak gusts around 60mph between 10pm and midnight. Still bordering on the (Amber is a bit ott) but I can see why they've just stuck an Amber over Scotland.
  16. It's not uncommon for similar patterns of deep lows passing through close together but having named storms less than 2 days apart probably hasn't happened that often.
  17. Most of their warnings recently have been excessive or premature. It has been an average storm season but we're somehow likely to be on 10 after this week...
  18. It seems a bit odd that the met have upgraded the warning to Amber in strathclyde while also lowering the wind speeds. The fact that an Amber warning has been issued is now likely to cause disruption but if the wind speeds are similar to those being forecast then an Amber is completely unnecessary for much of central Scotland.
  19. It looks a bit further north, or at least it doesn't lose intensity as quickly as it moves NE. Strange the BBC and met are still decreasing their predicted wind speeds for me (central belt). Currently maxing out under 50 mph but the models are suggesting 65-70 mph.
  20. Wind speeds have been consistently decreasing across Scotland, no need for even a yellow warning here with the max gust forecast at 49mph where I am.
  21. The 70 mph + inland has disappeared, it's mostly 50-60 mph across most areas. The potential storm on Tuesday into Wednesday looks more severe.
  22. Gfs has it weaker and much further south as expected.
  23. The general theme this autumn/winter has been for lp's to end up drifting further south with each run. Hopefully this one doesn't as there hasn't been a good windstorm in the central belt for years. It'll get downgraded by Friday or Saturday anyway. I'd expect 55-65mph inland and maybe 70-80 around the coast.
  24. Raining here too. The BBC were much closer with their temps today. 3C while the met only had it briefly going above 0C all day.
  25. Pretty poor from the met and BBC to be honest. Snow can be difficult to forecast but it wasn't whether it would be sleet or snow that's the issue, they just had it in the wrong place. They were both showing a 50% + chance of snow at less than 4 hrs too, at that stage you'd be as well looking out the window.
