  1. I suppose you're more likely to encounter them if you're in the air or have spy satellites, advanced radars etc. Some good points made above although personally I'm sceptical that we have ever actually been visited by aliens. Probes are more possible but even that, too many people would've had to keep quiet. A lot of these visual phenomenon can be explained by other things. If they produce an actual physical object then fair enough but some grainy picture doesn't do it for me.
  2. I feel like if people can see who posted the disagree reaction there are likely to be a lot of posts along the lines of 'why do you not agree with me @random poster'. It's more likely to interrupt threads with petty arguments and would be better hidden for me.
  3. Bit like the old like and dislike system on youtube before they removed it. It let's people know how useful a post is likely to be at a glance so I don't see any problem with it.
  4. Barely made it to 15C today, feels more like early September than the last day of June.
  5. Torrential rain in Motherwell at the moment and some nearby lighting over towards Hamilton. Heaviest rain I've seen in a few years here, even the guttering couldn't deal with it with water just flowing over the edge of it.
  6. I definitely agree on houses being poorly designed when it comes to hot weather. It probably feels less unpleasant in 35c in Spain than it does here at 25c indoors. I suppose there has to be a middle ground though, with such changeable weather we can't really build too far in favour of cooling or heating. Favouring keeping the heat in probably still makes sense in most areas but I could see that changing in the south in coming years.
  7. Ah rain finally after 3 weeks when there were only a couple of short lived showers. Never seen the grass so yellow at this stage of June.
  8. Down to 21c here today, wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't still 29c upstairs even with the windows open.
  9. 9 consecutive days above 20c and counting, not too unusual during mid summer but it doesn't happen too often in early June.
  10. 10 foot west facing windows, they feel like radiators from around 2pm til 8pm.
  11. 33.6c earlier today and still 30c now. Fan staying on tonight.
  12. Peaked at 32.4c upstairs yesterday, the highest my therm has recorded since I got it 2 and a half years ago. Didn't drop below 28.8c overnight so starting from a higher value today I would be surprised if it doesn't reach 33c.
  13. Getting a bit uncomfortable now... 27c outside over 31c upstairs.
  14. How much £ per hour does a typical air con use? Thinking about getting one and just leaving it on for an hour or two upstairs before bed. I'm assuming once the sun goes down it won't heat up that quickly after turning it off?
  15. Surprised to see so many days for Motherwell (8 I think) considering it usually seems to peak 2-3c higher further west during hot spells. Just a shame somebody parked next to the station and ruined our all time record in 2018.
  16. Up to 29.1c upstairs today, the peak for this year was 30.4c last week even though it was about 5c cooler. Big difference when it's constantly sunny.
  17. A little bit of rain here for the first time in 2 weeks today but not exactly torrential downpours so much as a couple of short showers. Looks like being back to hot and sunny for the rest of the week and possibly into the following week, wouldn't be surprised if there are water shortages if this continues into July.
  18. Over how long though? 10, 20, even 100 years isn't that long in terms of long term weather cycles. I'm not saying it's not being caused by us but how much of it is being caused by us will always be open to debate as we just don't have the data to tell us exactly what the weather was doing thousands of years ago.
  19. Quite breezy but still sunny and up to about 22C here, looks like a few places in the central belt could pass 25C next week. If there's no hot spell in July it might be the warmest week of the year.
  20. It has been pretty much constantly sunny for the last 10+ days here other than some early morning cloud. Definitely one of the longest sunny spells in recent years especially outside of July.
  21. Unfortunately July is usually the warmest month, the start of the football season is pretty much when the worst of the heat starts to wane.
  22. Not sure I'd agree with a vast majority. I'd imagine if you asked do you want 20c and sunny or 5c and raining then yes 90% would take the former. If you asked would you rather have 35c and sunny or 15c and cloudy it would be far more even or maybe even favouring 15c. Most people like mild but very warm becomes wearing quite quickly for most people.
  23. What was the outside temp? I must have the best insulated house in the UK, it was 20C today but reached 30.2C upstairs...
