  1. Nine times out of ten a NW'ly brings dry weather here, too much land/high ground to cross.
  2. You keep quoting 60f, you may live in a little tropical micro climate but here in the NE most days have been nearer 50 than 60, just a little above average. Yesterday it reached 45f.
  3. I'm not far from you and I'd describe the summer as dire! I know we're not the med but......The number of day's above the magic 21* must be horribly low, cold cloudy or wet day's prevailing. I'm an 'outdoorsy' person and this summer has been crap for cycling/kids activities etc.!! I'd hate to suffer one of your July/August 2's!!
  4. I know what you're saying but in previous GP longer range 'pattern' forecasts he's done remarkably well....however with this one it went t---s up immediately, and I sooooo wanted it to be right!!
  5. I'd have to echo the words of Paul Hudson, never has a LRF gone so spectacularly wrong so quickly!! A bummer considering GP's past record. I don't know how many mm's have fallen or how many hrs of sun or av. max's min's etc but suffice to say in my neck of the woods summer's been rubbish, cloudy/cool with no end in sight.
  6. Running total so far for the year is 104mm, April so far has seen 6.4mm, very dry and just how I like it!
  7. Yeah, for such a low mountain range they can have a marked effect on weather. The current very wet west and much drier east, summer weather with a wind off the North sea and cloudy cool and damp at home, becomes sunny and hot at the bottom of Hartside pass. On such day's temps could be no more than 15 at home but once west of the pennines 25-30!! Haven't had much time to view radar re this months rain but on many occasions in the past daily radar images show a stark contrast between west and east of Pennines. I always presumed Consett was wetter than my hometown but I'm very surprised at the actual difference this month between myself and peterf, 126mm compared to my now 20.1mm!! Consett is some 16 miles from Chester-le-street.
  8. For me a great idea, certainly worth a trial, but as this thread show's, you can't please all the people all the time!
  9. Fantastic photo's, where was the photo in post number 6 taken?
  10. Hi chaps. In view of what the models are now showing are you still sticking with a record breaking cold/snowy winter? I'm not convinced the current spell will pan out as it's currently showing. I remember a couple of similar spells from years ago where the atlantic air was forecast to push over us but ground to a halt over the country before retreating back westwards and the cold continued!! Do you still think the bitter weather will continue into and through much of next month?
  11. I maybe worded my question wrong! I can view pdf no problem, word docs I can't, so if I'm sent a word doc it's usually a jumble of characters. I'm not the worlds foremost computer genius and wondered whether there was a simple way of converting the word doc to pdf as I presumed OON had done? Where's that photo of your magnificent invention OON?
  12. I can't read Word doc's on my computer, it's all just a jumble of characters. How did you convert the Word doc to the Pdf version? Thanks.
  13. See my comment from this morning has been deleted. Do we have the no sense of humour Police patrolling this site?
  14. Get your finger out then...maybe get a patent on it too, just incase.
  15. Thanks for the replies men. In relation to the lawn I didn't mean literally lying on the lawn!! I meant I can't mount it on a pole on the lawn or the little un would kick the living daylights out of it during one of his footy games!! It would solve my problem though! TM, that's what I suspected re the bush, maybe I could move it away from the bush for now as the footy is abandoned due to snow, then worry about where to site it come spring! As for painting the fence, I've been told I've got two hope's....... Cheers anyway.
  16. No it's not just a winter thing. I'm guessing it's reflected heat from some of the wood nearby. Is your station still in the same place as on the photo's OON? How on earth did you get permission from the Boss to decorate it with a foil shield? You got a photo with the shield in place?
  17. I've got a Davis Vantage pro cabled. The temp seems to 'spike' particularly in sunshine. Is this set up the cause, ie. the heat from the fence and decking plank!! Can't put it in the lawn due to spoiling the footy pitch! Would I be better getting an alloy pole/mast to use as a bracket from the fence?

  19. Currently -1.4. The falling snow through the night kept our temp up. Another 3cm, still deep out there!
  20. Max of -1 and falling away again so another ice day. Low of -8.2. Still around 25cm snow, 12th day of continuous snow cover, all >10cm and the vast majority >25cm. Exceptional for my location.
  21. Last weekend was The frog orgy, all quiet now...no sign of the newts yet.
  22. It's usually to do with altitude when it's so marginal. You will find that in places Chester-le-street is only 15-20 mts asl, very low lying for an inland town. The snowline wasn't higher towards Stanley, as I said it was very clear looking out of the window. The area you were refering to around Wrekenton tops out at >140 mts asl!! and the snow line was around 90-100mts. In winters gone by in similar conditions the higher ground around Wrekenton would be white whilst here it would be wet.
