  1. That first chart brought the deepest and most disruptive snow I've ever seen where I live. Only time the village has ever been cut off and a repeat would be great!
  2. Mate, if this winter has disappointed you I would suggest upping sticks and maybe trying Scandinavia!
  3. It feels bitter out there. Some canny mini blizzards thru the night, best at 4am A181 Thornley in a temp of -4° and very heavy blowing snow. Exceptional for the time of year!
  4. Massive snow shower going on here. Everything is white and cars are starting to struggle to get up the hill outside.
  5. You've been saying this most of the winter and even the law of averages has failed you!! It will get milder eventually, it always does!
  6. One of the few times I've seen snow drifting here, one of the other times was this winter! I was at school and remember the rain slowly changing to snow through the friday and everywhere was soaked. The temperature continued to fall and the snow lay and the slush started to freeze. By Saturday morning there was more than a foot of snow but it hadn't drifted yet and from memory not a lot more fell during the day. On Saturday evening it started snowing again and by Sunday morning the whole village was cut off by huge drifts. Sure my parents will have the old cinefilm of us walking against the drifts which were an incredible sight for here. Don't know the depth but the most snow I've ever seen here, cars half buried and drifted over, can't wait for it to be reapeated!
  7. Haha, very lazy reporting there!I'm on low ground and received more than 3" of snow, this came about not from flurries but prolonged heavy snow!! Followed by more heavy snow showers. Love the statement 'The risk of more snow this year is lessening all the time because we are coming to the end of winter and heading into spring'!!!!! Here's me thinking that happened every year! Bet he's getting paid to come out with that drivel too!
  8. If my weather station is correct, air pressure is 1028mb and its snowing heavily, courtesy of the North sea!!
  9. All that finger crossing has worked, and after sausage sarnies we're off sledging!! Hopefully even the doom n gloom merchants are happy and next time won't write it off before its even began. Very heavy snow falling now.
  10. Yet another spell of cold frosty and potentially snowy weather on the way. To be honest I'd be happy for some warmth now after a long winter, that's 3 out of the last 4 I'd class as good ones. We were told it was going to be into double figures this weekend. Wishfull thinking, struggling to get above 6C at the moment here and this looks like being the 'mildest' day of the next 7 at least. Indeed by next weekend temps look like they'll struggle to get much above freezing! Can't remember if we got snow in November but certainly we've had it in October December January and February. Fingers crossed the kids get another (hopefully the last!) day of sledging and snowmen!!
  11. I know it's not your thermometer but that's way too high. 8/9C in Durham.
  12. Stop complaining and get out in it! At spennymoor and it's great! No great depth but blowing and drifting everywhere and -1C. It's a brill day, get out of your house! Some people just can't be happy.
  13. Don't remember exactly which year but either 77/78 or 79, mid march, deepest snow in my lifetime here. Village cut off by snow which is the one and only time I remember it happening here.
  14. Planned a ride up past Waskerley but got turned back because of drifting snow. Cracking walk in Slaley forest with the dog instead. Deep deep snow, trees weighed down with snow and really spectacular. Back home to an extra 2cm snow and a rarity for here, proper blowing snow!! For me that's 3 out of the last 4 winters in the 'canny' class. Think back to all those snowless winters with barely even a frost all winter! To drive through the likes of Stanley and Consett and see the amount of snow is incredible, great day
  15. Have you got your pants ready mate?! Overnight low of -6.1C.......
