Winter 2023/24 Chat and Discussion
Josh Rubio replied to Blessed Weather's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
There’s already been a big reduction in temperatures forecast by the BBC for this week over the past 24 hours, for my area. Just look at those temperatures! I think in-land locations, away from coastal areas, are going to be very cold this week. Particularly at night. -

No thanks. We already get enough Kent Clippers in the Summer when it comes to thunderstorms -
Today has been chilly, dull and misty. Extremely gloomy feeling. At least it’s dry though.

It was drizzling mid-day today and from my own personal experience, it was chilly. Had to put the heater on in the car. There are lots of variables when it comes to the weather. Simply looking online and seeing what the temperature says it no ‘proper’ way to see how it feels, without actually going outside/being in the elements.

Yep. It makes the thread far too thin and is distracting whilst scrolling. Needs removing asap.

I’m definitely not keen on this. It makes the threads too narrow and it’s also distracting seeing various pieces of content appear on the side whilst scrolling. Would like an option to disable it please.

Does anyone know how to get rid of all this clutter on the right hand side? It’s really annoying and not needed. Thanks.
-
Can anyone explain what this means, and whether it was ‘forecast’ or not..? The original tweet can be found here

I still don’t think this is anywhere near resolved. Models struggle to predict much smaller areas of regular low pressure systems, even on a normal day. Anything can happen between now and when the storm actually makes landfall.

Sadly, on the rail network, a lot of people tend to ignore advice. You then end up in the situation of thousands of people stranded, with no rail replacement due to adverse weather conditions. All it takes it for a few trees to fall onto the overhead wires, which can cause disruption for several hours.

The ‘enthusiastic’ side of me hopes this will trend to head back on a more northerly path, although I do understand dangers and consequences of the impacts possible. -

Does it get stuck over us, bringing us more relentless rain by any chance? -
The river levels across the South West, the Midlands, Wales, Northern England and Scotland are still quite high, so it won’t take much for there to be further flooding issues. The ground is still saturated too.

Probably far too premature to be asking but are we expecting any more significant rainfall and/or storms within the next few weeks? I think I read in the MOD that we're going to be low pressure dominated for quite a while.
-
Back on topic, it seems there’s still several hours of heavy rain to come for Derbyshire and the Pennines. Also, we have to remember that even after the rain has stopped, river levels can and will still be rising in places.

It’s quite extraordinary how the area of rain has been pretty much stationary, with it just keep on piling in over the same areas.
-
Not sure if you're jesting or have been living under a rock, but its no joke giving all the devastation caused so far up and down the country.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the amber warning was updated to cover more of the East Mids too.
