  1. Well, the rest of the weeks weather better be an improvement on today. A little bit of brightness first thing then downhill quickly - real dreich, minging afternoon of heavy rain; 6c and at least light winds. Thankfully the Monymusk Christmas Light switch on was a dry affair at the weekend....
  2. Same here - recently got some from Costco when they were on offer, but had to order them via their online store as they were not held in stock in store... https://www.costco.co.uk/tiresearch
  3. What a contrast to a couple of days ago. Wickedly cold out there, 3.7c with a strong and gusty NW wind giving a high wind chill. Showers passing through quickly with brief bright periods in-between. All rain with no hint of snow at this level- hints of it falling as snow around the top of Bennachie though. Red Kite out looking for some food - impressive birds..
  4. As noted above, a surprisingly stormy night - power was out for a couple of hours plus the new featherweight Aberdeenshire Council bins went for a tumble around the garden (just as well they were nearly empty). Still very windy outside and the cooling trend has already begun - 13c at midnight and down to 9c now; light shower of rain just now.
  5. Positively tropical for the time of year - 14.1c at the moment, calm conditions. Bright with some alluring blue sky here and there.
  6. Sunset 19th November 2023, looking west towards Green Hill (NE Scotland, nr Tillyfourie).
  7. First world concern, but that is starting to have a nasty effect on the garden with noticeable rot appearing on some alpines that are normally immune. Another damp day with rain off and on. Some clearer spells towards the end of the day allowing a nice sunset. Temperatures rising quite noticeably as the day went on, currently a balmy 8c with patchy mist and calm conditions.
  8. Lovely day, almost unbroken sunshine with a steady NW wind making it feel colder than the 7c on the thermometer. See the BGS have issued a aurora alert for tonight and tomorrow. Clear skies forecast for here, what could possibly go wrong Geomagnetic storm forecast 10th November 2023 GEOMAG.BGS.AC.UK
  9. Coldest night of the season so far with a overnight low of -5.1c. Temperature below freezing until around 10am, now 4.8c with a light westerly wind and some sunny periods. Wintry looking showers early this morning...
  10. Met Office app really is terrible at temperature predictions. Supposed to be 1c at 8pm - reality, -3.5c with sparkling grass everywhere and sheet ice where field runoff crosses the road. Managed to get a beautiful but ever so brief glimpse of the aurora just after 8pm, if only these sparkling clear skies were around earlier this week.. Very useable late autumn days this week with plenty of sunshine, if a bit chilly - long may they continue.
  11. Very foggy to start but now lovely out there with just some high cloud spoiling the show. Calm conditions and 8c.
  12. You hate Scottish weather at times, 99% cloud cover to the North but in that 1% clearance you can see that there is a stonking aurora ongoing.
  13. A most acceptable day with some decent spells of sunshine in the early afternoon. Bit warmer than off late with a max of 10c and calm conditions - see the aurora alerts have been going off all afternoon so fingers crossed for some clear skies this evening. Some nice cloudscapes earlier...
  14. Finally some sunshine today, albeit very hazy and all too brief. Dry bar a short and very sharp shower at 7pm . Cool though, max of 8c and currently 4.8c with banks of mist drifting around in the very light NW wind. Decent evening for the fireworks display at Banchory, though overcast conditions negating any chance of seeing the aurora on the way back home...
  15. Another very soggy and cool day (max 8c) with light NE winds. Glad to see the Met Office app showing no appreciable rain for the next week. That will hopefully let things dry out, been a long time since the ground was this sodden. Anecdotally there seem to be a lot fewer geese flying over compared to previous years - different flight routes or just sick of the rain and off to more pleasant pastures?!
  16. Very foggy start to the day and temperatures below freezing (-0.9c min), so a lot cooler than forecast (Met had a low of 4c). Fog cleared by 9am and even some blue sky... That lasted all of 5 seconds as now totally overcast with spits of rain in the light NE wind. Cold at 4.8c currently.
  17. Two fair days then crashing back to the soggy autumn dross. Heavy rain just now, light easterly winds and a chilly 7c. First Scandinavian/Eastern European visitors of the season, a flock of c.30 Fieldfares descended on this Rowan and stripped it completely of berries in just a couple of hours...
  18. Vile day yet again. Heavy rain in banchory just now, 8.5c and a keen Easterly wind. Kids decided they are emigrating...
  19. Vile day, cool with frequent pulses of heavy rain. Everything waterlogged, so far enough dry periods to prevent a repeat of last weeks flooding.
  20. Very soggy morning in Aberdeenshire with constant rain until around Keith when heading over to Inverness. Over in strathnairn, dry but completely overcast with light winds, car thermometer reading a constant 10c. Dunlichity church looking as quaint as ever, sad to see its no longer used and do wonder who maintains it now.
  21. Well an entertaining few days of wind and rain. For the immediate area round here we dodged a bullet thanks to the lengthy dry spell Friday Morning/Afternoon and, more critically, a 2 hour gap in the rain between c.1-3pm today. Both allowed the local streams to lower sufficiently that, when the next pulse of prolonged rain came in, it wasn't on long enough to cause maximum flooding. Going by what was seen down by Sauchen, flooding not as bad as last November's flooding - though bad enough to cause some serious road flooding like this... However, just a few miles away in a neighbouring stream catchment area the flooding was something else, like this on the A944 next to Loch of Skene. Always amazes how things can change over just a short distance. Clear skies outside now and cold with it, 2.9c with light winds.
  22. In end the flooding here was not as bad as the 18th Nov flood last year. A lot down to the fact that the rain eased off a lot during the night - a few more hours of rain like we had in the evening and its would have been a different story. A944 was still blocked for a time in the morning, even the parts open were a tad dicey.. Wind damage more noticeable though, fact a lot of the trees were still in full leaf would have played a part as will have the unusual wind direction, example of damage up at Castle Fraser... Dry during the day with even a few glimpses of the sun, that strong wind there all day making things feel cold. Wind picking up again this evening and bringing with it some sporadic pulses of heavy rain, time will tell if the flooding reappears tomorrow.
  23. Deeply unpleasant out there. Had to make a quick jaunt out to help a friend and the A944 around Sauchen/Dunecht is badly affected with surface flooding and branches galore on the road. See the fields are starting to flood upstream of the bridge next to the junction to Sauchen so touch and go for the A944 to be flooded there in the morning (just as it was last November). Just as well the weather apps are now firming up on a lengthy dry spell tomorrow before the next deluge on Saturday.
  24. Now that is a classic rain shadow effect from a SE flow... Horrible outside but so far the local streams have stayed within their banks. See they have issued flood warnings for Kemnay and Inverurie with rest centres being opened up to accomodate people affected. Storm Babet - Aberdeenshire Council WWW.ABERDEENSHIRE.GOV.UK
  25. Watching the rain radar really surprised how quickly the band of rain is moving north - the automated forecasts don't seem to have taken this into account. For example Auchterarder should be having heavy rain - radar suggests its now dry. Wind causing the most problems round here with trees coming down and power cuts - fubar news good source of up to date reports... https://www.facebook.com/FubarNews
