  1. Eased off ever so slightly for 10 mins now pelting it down with 50p flakes once more 4cm lying here in Sandbach, South Cheshire IMG_3478.MOV
  2. May end up getting more than the 29th Dec event here locally all be it much wetter snow. How is it in Stoke? ️ Heavy pulses moving northwards up the Welsh border Staffs and Shropshire now.
  3. Crewe Station getting an unusually good covering. Pelting it down with 50p size flakes here - 2cm lying and the heaviest probably yet to come after 10pm.
  4. I haven’t seen locally such a quick transition in many years usually it’s the other way round. Crewe also getting a pasting! Should pick up 2-5cm overnight although will be perhaps a more slushy temporary covering the further west and low down you go.
  5. Heavy snow everywhere turning white - what a transition!!! ️
  6. Heavy sleet & wet snow transition here in S Cheshire beginning to settle slightly on the grass. Great to see the transition to snow moving west to east. Think we can get a few cm out of this if it settles & keeps up in terms of intensity
  7. GMP & Cheshire Police declaring a major incident. BBC NWT showing flooding across Northwich Marina. Never seen it so bad here surface water flooding everywhere many footpaths v difficult and grass like sludge. In terms of snow could well be some flash Met Office warnings if it settles.
  8. Alternating between Moderate - Pouring Heavy rain here in S Cheshire all morning quite a bit of surface flooding on the low lying country lanes - Crewe/ Nantwich way and haven’t seen the garden this sodden since last February’s big storm. On the fringes of the Amber Warning. May well see some wet snow tonight even this low down with if it’s as heavy as forecast some temporary accumulation of a few cm if it’s light though we’ll see only a slush fest mess. Higher ground Macclesfield upwards - Peak District & Pennines looking good though but we shall see what happens.
  9. Some places in Yorkshire just over the Pennines are reporting 10-15cm at quite modest elevation giving the heaviest snowfall locally since the 2018 BFTE not that I’m jealous or anything if only all that rain last night had fallen into slightly colder air! Cold drizzle all day here in contrast might as well have been 12c you wouldn’t have noticed the difference just looking out the window ?
  10. Very jealous of the snow they are getting all be it pretty wet snow over the Pennines, Leeds, Sheffield etc... but it always is the way! Very wet overnight & early this morning and still drizzling ?
  11. Hmmm looks as if precipitation roughly east of the M6 may well be more wintry than initially forecast tomorrow. Will definitely be a nowcast situation - still expecting cold rain and sleet at my level but still some wet falling snow on the back edge would be nice.
  12. It’s been a lovely winters day after heavy pouring rain all last night sunny and bright not too mild not too cold ‘Goldilocks weather’ at 7c but would really love some snow back! Moderately High ground in the north & east still in with a chance of seeing some sleet & wet snow tomorrow into Thursday Met Office update slightly more encouraging but cold rain for the majority further west at the moment but it’ll be a nowcast situation for sure. Late Jan though is still looking fairly promising but I best not jinx it It’s been a strange winter so far not overly mild, not exactly average, some snow and ice but not exactly memorably cold either. Sandbach Crosses in the snow, South Cheshire (29th Dec)
  13. Think it’ll be cold rain for many at low levels this side of the Pennines sadly although the risk of sleet and wet snow for the Peaks and Pennines is definitely there most of the wintry potential looks to be Yorkshire and into the NE. Fingers crossed we are well placed for a snowy battleground scenario late month. Europe looks like going into the freezer with the UK on the edges ️
  14. Raining heavily - something that unlike snow never fails to miss us! ️ Still a chance of late month cold spell shaping up on the models but it’s all just noise at this stage. Wednesdays system could also deliver some heavy hill sleet/ snow to the peaks and Pennines main wintry action will be to the east of us though - Met Office Warnings already out for east of the Pennines usual areas seem to be in potentially for another good fall of snow there.
  15. Yeah definitely - December and early January has been a mild Atlantic write off in recent years and last winter was pretty pathetic even by UK standards so the last few weeks have been great all be it very localised in terms of snowfall. A Feb 2012 style big freeze might be about to develop across Eastern Europe in the coming weeks - think the UK might get a glancing but snowy blow in a cold but unsettled pattern late January into early February but we’ll have to see don’t think Winter is done with us yet though by no means️
  16. So as the sun sets on this cold spell and we enter a slightly more average/ milder blip of weather the stats for the last 2 weeks whilst not extreme aren’t too shabby either for the Cheshire plain compared to the mild stormy Atlantic sludge of recent winters: - Max snow depth: 6cm Min Overnight Temp: -4c Min Daytime Temp: 1c Late January into February may well be the next thing to watch I don’t think winter is done with us just yet ️
  17. Had some light falling snow early this morning but grey & dry ever since ground damp but feeling bitter out. Would love to be proved wrong but looks a bit of a bust today’s ‘event’ NE and Yorkshire seem to have done well with a wintry mix across into Wales but a large rain shadow effect across much of the south and centre of the region with little or patchy precipitation - very March 2013 like.
  18. Yeah this morning once the fog cleared was sparkling, lots of ice and hoar frost around. Just a light shower here main band is overnight into tomorrow morning fingers crossed for a covering 1-3cm possible if it maintains intensity and sticks.
  19. Light snow has arrived in South Cheshire settling on the grass but too light to settle on anything else just yet. Bodes well for tonight hopefully
  20. -3c and thick freezing fog ? here on the S Cheshire plain. Coldest night of the winter likely. Will have to wait and see what tomorrow into Friday brings in terms of any snow - a last hurrah from this locally snowy but otherwise rather tame cold spell or a whimper? Here’s hoping we can get a SSW triggered big freeze late Jan into February.
  21. Just started Snowing moderately again here as a smaller showery band moves through!
  22. Had about 3cm in that hour long heavy snow shower. Areas further north and east in Cheshire - Wilmslow, Macclesfield going towards Buxton got closer to 4-6cm quite impressive really for a narrow band of showers. Continuing to keep a close eye on the radar with BBC forecasting further heavy snow shower risk until midnight
  23. Took this about 5 mins ago. It’s becoming a whiteout almost now wow! Easily 2cm on the ground IMG_3433.MOV
