  1. Don’t think climate change has anything to do with it, the North Sea has always had a reputation as one of the most violent and unpredictably - that’s why HMS Endeavour was a converted Whitby collier, built to withstand the worst weather on earth!
  2. High of 3.7•C (briefly) yesterday, 0.4 at first light this morning, high of 2.2•C today. Currently 1.5. Expect a cloudy sub-zero night. What was it Steve Murr said about the cold??
  3. It might well be, the same thought occurred to me whilst I was walking the dogs yesterday. 1.9•C at first light - almost a frost overnight despite the thick cloud cover. Still only 2.7 now, yesterday’s high was 3.3 with that lazy wind. Certainly feels like winter.
  4. -3•C here at first light. Ground like concrete, only the top centimetre’s thawing during the day ( still enough to get the dogs muddy tho’) Whether we get any more severe weather is anyone’s guess. Certainly the glass is climbing so I can’t see a return to mild anytime soon. Think it’s been a bad winter for models, Covid or weather. If anything major happens it’ll be like 2009, deepening cold followed by a sudden dump.
  5. Evening All! High of 4.7, good frost at dawn -1.7•C. Just above freezing now, looks like third frost on the trot. Gauge dropping though so expect change tomorrow morning.
  6. Damn wind’s changed! Now more northerly and my Snowdonia Snofest is heading for Gloucs. Watching the Mersey streamer now….
  7. That mass bottom left heading my way! 1.3•C here and dropping. Fingers crossed….
  8. Looks like the main bulk of the front has veered to the south-east, the Cotswolds getting the bulk of it. Expect a clearing night with the occasional ‘wintry shower’.
  9. No snow yesterday, too far south, eventually an early evening high of 4.9•C. Sun-up this morning it had clearly warmed up to zero (cloud moving over)judging by the light frost . High of 3.7 here today, now dropped back to 3.3•C. Incoming front May just miss us here as wind is nor’-westerly, so perhaps another frosty night.
  10. Well, it’s the heat of the day and no sign of the milder predominating. According to the radar we’ve had an hour of snow but as yet, not a flake. Air temp now +1, still low level bitter easterly and yes, still frost on the lawn!
  11. No Snurr here yet, radar shows it already is! Strong low level easterly seems to be holding the front at bay. Still frost on the ground, just above freezing air temp +0.5
  12. -2.0•C at sun-up here, still -0.5. The approaching front has slowed on the Welsh mountains, should hit here about 12. Yesterday after -1 overnight we had a high of +3.2, yet the sender unit was a metre above a frosted lawn. A classic case of warmed air above a deepening ground cold. Our lawn’s been continuously frosted now for 40 hours. edit: I can’t add up !
  13. Good Morning All! No Snurr here overnight - it seems it peters out in Warks to our north. -1.0C at dawn with a continuing bitterly nor-westerly. Presently just below freezing, we’ve now had 16 hours of frost and still that bitter nor-westerly. At present occasional snow showers seem more likely than warmth.
  14. Nothing here, just -0.7•C, nice wintry feel but no snurr (as they say in E. Yorks).
  15. Currently dropped to zero after a brief high of 2.0•C. The ridge to the south at 220masl cars were frosting over an hour ago. Radar shows Mersey snow showers heading our way. Fingers crossed.
  16. Same here, 1.5•C and a shower of sleety rain. Might be better later with that northerly.
  17. Whilst it’s more likely, warm interludes twenty days out are no more reliable than cold ten days away. If I’ve learnt anything about this winter it’s that beyond 48 hours anything might happen. For once I’d like to see a model at distance that verifies. The only thing currently certain is uncertainty.
  18. I do feel at the moment the models are like jigsaws packed in the wrong boxes. what we wind up with may not necessarily be what is on the box lid…
