A friend of mine just took this...can anyone tell me what the weird collapsed funnel looking bit is? Is it just a heavy rainy section? -

I am heading to Southampton late afternoon so fingers crossed some South Coast activity is available tonight. Currently dreary milky grey skies here in NE Hants: just had about 30 mins of light drizzle. -

We had a little rain today ( technically yesterday, but I am up late) and it did very little to dampen down the dustbowl patches in the garden. We have a 1yr old Bernese Mountain dog who loves to run up and down the garden: she has worn away the grass on her route and for the past few weeks our conservatory has just been collecting soil dust daily . Really need some proper rain to help the grass along now.

I can agree wholeheartedly: coming into my house (26C) from outside (37.5C) I enjoy a similiar sensation as when you walk into aircon or open a fridge. Never would I have thought 26C could feel so cool and welcoming! -

Weird, no. If it wasn't so hot (and risky) I'd go on a heat chase to experience it - and I'm only a few degrees off at 37.4C -

Just hit 37C on my station: blasted my previous high of yesterday . Never ever did I think I would get two personal records over two consecutive days! -

Not sure how to copy twitter links properly but WOW! Today's temp charts look oh so very close to where the Met Office thought we would be in 2050! -

My station has dropped from 35.9C to 32.3C in the past hour. I guess due to cloud cover but this doesn't look too heavy to me. -

Apologies to mods for being a bit off topic but I just want to say a huge thank you to all the knowledgeable posters who have been giving their insights and sharing their wisdom over the past couple of weeks. I have learned so much and feel I have been part of something very, very special as we approach this historic meteorological event. Am now in bed, three electric fans on the go and a cold, wet sheet hanging in front of the opened bedroom windows. It's not just the heat keeping me awake though: I feel like a kid at Christmas waiting for this plume to make its presence felt. So thank you to all contributors, drink plenty of water, keep cool and stay safe.
