  1. Another cold and calm start to the day. Temp at 8am was -12.5c Cloud increased during the morning. Snow is forecast to start around 1pm Temp has increased, currently -4c
  2. Seems to be cloud all round the vale now. Still dry here, temps shot up to -6c. Met Office forecast for snow (50%) to begin around 1pm through to 9pm. Met office have upgraded to heavy snow starting 1pm.
  3. Up on the hills this morning. The difference in summit temperature compared to the valley is huge. I've had to ditch gloves and the mid layer. Some impressive cloud formations to the north and west which seem to be tracking southerly. Definitely snow clouds. Might be an idea to get off this hill.
  4. More cloud this morning so not as cold as yesterday. Looks like snow isint far away. Sun's trying to appear above the hills so the temperature might lower yet. Met office still showing -4c for my location at 8am. Temperature noted around 8am. Bit of a difference.

  8. Sun hasn't set and already the temperature is on the slide. The skies are so clear at the moment, looks like another cold night in store. Temp around -6c and falling.
  9. The car was not best pleased on start up this morning. Picked up fuel at the local station, other drivers were also reporting -14c temperatures.

  12. BBC News: Britain is braced for the coldest night of the winter so far, with more disruption from snow expected on Thursday. Widespread freezing temperatures are forecast, with -14C (7F) predicted for parts of Scotland.
  13. The picture was taken just before the Whitehouse junction, which is a few minutes away from the house. It's a notorious local cold spot, given its one of the lowest points in the Valley. Once the cold gets in, it's difficult to shift. I think we might see lower temperatures over night. Slight improvement form early on this morning:
  14. Sunrise, the skies have cleared and the temperature has dropped lower. That's the lowest temp I've seen in quite a while.

  19. Cracking day on the local hills, once above the tree line, noticeable wind chill and blowing snow. Cold at the summit, water bottle was partially frozen. Pics are from the hills around Corrennie forest overlooking the vale of Alford and further west.
  20. Don't write off winter. When I went to bed last night its was a mixture of rain/sleet and snow. This morning:
  21. And everything is back to white. Snow started after dark yesterday and its snowing at present. Around the house there's a few centimetres but the hills, where I'm heading, looks much deeper. View looking south over the vale of Alford.
  22. A snowy start to the day with a light NW wind. Cloudy with variable visibility as snow showers pass through. The heaviest snowfall of winter to date, approx 3 cm. Temperature -1c.
  23. Snowfall overnight for the tops of surrounding hills, around 300 Mts ASL. 3c with rain/sleet at present which is forecast to turn to snow tonight. Cairngorms closed due to high winds and heavy snow. Glenshee and Lecht forecast for heavy snow all day.
