  1. As expected, Met Office issue yellow warnings for snow and ice for large parts of Scotland. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings#?date=2019-01-21 Latest update from MWIS: PLANNING OUTLOOK All mountain areas of Britain from Tuesday 22nd January 2019 The colder conditions will continue across the mountains over the next week or fortnight - perhaps longer. Mountain temperatures will frequently be sub-freezing, often to lower slopes in Scotland, although from Thursday to Sunday this week, there will be cycles of freeze and thaw Scottish Highlands, whilst elsewhere, summit temperatures will most often be above freezing point. Precipitation wise, there will be further snow, albeit some melting periods later this week. Next week, there may well be extensive fresh snowfall, substantial in some areas.
  2. BBC weather this morning West Scotland "rain, hill snow, possible light cover of snow for low levels Tuesday morning" I think we'll see Met Office warnings being issued later on today. P.S. BBC weather also going for colder temperatures next week.
  3. Dry, calm and frosty start Temperature currently -5c
  4. Top ten coldest recorded temperatures in the UK https://blog.metoffice.gov.uk/2012/10/16/top-ten-coldest-recorded-temperatures-in-the-uk/
  5. The Met Office, in their afternoon video forecast, were warning of blizzard conditions for West side of Scotland 300-400 Mts above ASL. MWIS forecast makes for interesting reading.
  6. Some information for skiers and snowboarders. https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/inverness/1653938/cairngorm-tows-closed-due-to-health-and-safety-concerns/ Beggars belief these issues were flagged up during 2015 and ignored by the previous resort operator. Hopefully the weather allows the repair work to be carried out before 8th February. Queues for Car park T-bar and M1 Poma will be a nightmare this season.
  7. Beside Alford, it's about 25 miles west of Aberdeen. Can get very cold due to the hills that surround the area, although the last time it was very cold was back in 2010. Moved here in 2004, the coldest temperature I've noted was -22c Early January 2010.
  8. Pretty much the same here now, -6c first thing then the cloud start to build. Currently still -2c and a light mixture of rain/sleet.
  9. That -11c in Braemar might be worth a punt for coldest temp for winter 2018/19.
  10. Not a great outlook for the Scottish ski resorts this morning, very little snow being forecast for next week. Friday next week, Scotlands temperatures should be back to average for the time of year. Rain, hill snow Monday into Tuesday then a return to generally dry weather. Hopefully this changes ASAP.
  11. Another cold, calm and dry start to the day. Clearer skies, temperature currently -6c Day 5 with snow lying.
  12. Back in 2006, the Met office stated that the amount of snow setteling in Scotland had reduced by a third in the last 45 years. Perhaps that trend is continuing, be it natural variation or climate change.
  13. A 14 day weather look ahead for the UK? Waste of time.
  14. Calm, very cloudy and dry. Temperature 0c 4th day with snow lying.
  15. Approaching lunchtime and the temperature is still way below zero. Currently -5.5c.
  16. First cold day in a while. Currently -7c
  17. Calm, dry and cold. Temperature currently -7c
  18. Overcast with moderate/he snow adding to yesterdays accumulations. Temperature currently 0c but feeling much colder in brisk Northerly winds. Winter is here.
  19. Hat off to the Met Office. They've managed to forecast the hour, that the rain/sleet we've had today, changed to snow for my location.
  20. Looking better up at the Lecht. https://www.lecht.co.uk/webcams
  21. Weather warnings issued for Grampian, Highlands and Eilean Siar - Snow and Ice Wednesday and Thursday.
  22. Agreed, any UK forecast greater than 3 days, I tend to ignore.
  23. Met office outlook for Grampian, Highlands and Eilean Siar Outlook for Thursday to Saturday: Heavy snow showers and cold northerly winds easing with sunny spells developing through Thursday. Then mainly dry through Friday and Saturday with clear or sunny spells and widespread overnight frosts.
