  1. Ties in with a report I read on AMOC. "in the unlikely event of AMOC shutting down, the most likely outcome would be temperatures in Northern Hemisphere continuing to rise"
  2. Swings and roundabouts? Less than a week ago, parts of central and eastern Europe were 10c higher than normal.
  3. "Major winter to match one of the greats in 20th century during next 3 years"....High Confidence Can I ask when you made the above statement?
  4. 6°C but feeling raw in the strong westerly wind. Cloudy with frequent blustery showers.
  5. Thanks for the information Hopefully this dry sunny period continues for a wee while longer. I could get used to this
  6. Correct, but now we have Met Office and Meteogroup in general agreement.
  7. Pretty sure that 2013/14 produced some incredible conditions for the Scottish ski centres. I'd gladly settle for that again. Just checked and it was the same time as the Sochi winter Olympics.
  8. It could, and probably will change within a week. Everything still to play for. Realistic expectations etc, etc.
  9. That's odd, given the snow that fell Thursday evening did stick. The Lecht car park had snow cover when I viewed the various ski resort cams on Friday morning. A cursory glance at Nevis and Glencoe today clearly shows snow cover, albeit patchy, for both resorts. Snow will stick in the Cairngorms during summer months.
  10. You're not based in Scotland are you? The A66 is in England. Check out snow on the Scottish mountains thread or the regional Scotland thread. The reports on there suggested a dusting of snow across the mountains.
  11. Its the complete opposite up in NE Scotland, sunshine all day, feeling cold and crispy. I dont keep records, but this Autumn seems to be much drier than normal.
  12. There hasn't been a lot of snow falling across the Scottish mountains this week. A quick review of the webcams will confirm this. What part of Scotland do you live in?
  13. Central heating is still off, unprecedented given how late it is in the season. Long sunny days means the house heats up quickly in the morning Wood burning stove is used if it's cold enough. Currently 6°C outside, inside 18°C.
  14. UK Winters generally range from cool to mild. That's what I base my expectations on and I'm seldom surprised at the outcome. If the Scottish mountains catch enough snow for a decent snowboarding season, that's a huge bonus.
  15. Another bright sunny morning. Slight frost overnight. Temperatures 4°c The generally dry and sunny theme continues
  16. We managed a 13°C on Thursday, by Friday morning that was down to 1°C. Apparently the region I live in has recorded the greatest number of sub -20°C temperatures in the UK. The last very cold temperatures to hit the area was -25°C noted back in early January 2010. Since then, I think -14°c last January has been the lowest around these parts.
  17. It is however perfect for the army to teach arctic warfare and survival. The 30/30/30 rule certainly applies to this area.
  18. BBC news article on Icelands disappearing glaciers. Images reveal Iceland's glacier melt WWW.BBC.CO.UK A photography project has highlighted the extent of ice loss from Iceland’s largest glaciers.
  19. Light wintry showers 1°C with very little wind.
  20. Not unusual for the Cairngorms at this time of year, I've seen impressive snowfall up there in June/July 2001.
  21. 12°c, sunny with little in the way of cloud. Mild southerly wind. So far a dry and sunny Autumn with only a couple of ice days.
