  1. Lovely day outside, sunny and feeling mild. On a short break from stacking logs and noticed yellow warnings from the Met for parts of Scotland. Snow and Ice Saturday and Sunday apparently.
  2. Snow cover has taken a real dent through the night and this morning. The surrounding hills are mostly snow free bar sheltered spots on north facing hills. Starting to brighten up and the temperature has slowly crept up to 6c which has allowed the opening of windows to air the house. All good! Lecht, Cairngorm and Glenshee don't look as good as they did yesterday and the forecast through today and Saturday isin't great. Colder conditions on Sunday and this from MWIS: Frequent snow Snowing frequently through the day with risk of prolonged whiteout, especially across N Cairngorms. Snow increasingly to lowest slopes. Something for everyone I guess.
  3. Had to give the thermometer a tap this morning, 4c? A wet weekend in store which will suit my trees, and hopefully the ski centres.
  4. Damp, cloudy and calm start to the day. Much milder of late, temperature 4c
  5. A continuation of the generally cold and dry theme or something different?
  6. Dry, calm and overcast to start the day. Temperature currently -6c
  7. MWIS Outlook: PLANNING OUTLOOK All mountain areas of Britain from Thursday 24th January 2019 Cold conditions are expected to prevail across the mountains over the next week or fortnight - perhaps longer. Mountain temperatures will frequently be sub-freezing, often to lower slopes in Scotland. Wind speeds very varied day-to-day, at times up to gale force with severe chill factor. Over the next 5 days or so, winds will be mostly from the west or northwest, allowing briefly less cold air to affect England & Wales in particular. Whilst there is some uncertainty, indications into next week favour a cyclonic situation, with areas of precipitation circling around a broad area of low pressure, with scope for locally substantial snowfalls on the mountains. A northeasterly flow may well emerge for a few days.
  8. Dry bright and clam start to the day. Temperature currently -6c
  9. The current cold snap has produced some consistently low temperatures for here over the last seven days. Friday 18th Jan -7c Sunday 20th Jan -6c Monday 21st Jan -5c Wednesday 23rd Jan -6c Last snowfall was last Wednesday, most of which remains in place.
  10. Braemar hit 10.2c through the night https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-46967689
  11. Might get near or below the lowest temperature of winter overnight - BBC News. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-46959635
  12. We might see, so far, the coldest temperature of winter 2018/19 over night. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-46959635
  13. Much better for Scottish ski resorts this morning!
  14. Dry, calm and clear start. Milder of late. Temperature currently 1c
  15. Ulterior motive, I've 30 Canadian Tsuga trees that could use a proper soaking. Loads of rain around the house, loads of snow up on the hills. Perfect.
  16. I'd be happy with heavy rain instead of this calm, dry and cold theme.
  17. Nothing here, as expected. Braemar on the other hand: http://braemarscotland.co.uk/snowgate-webcam/
  18. Snow falling at elevation in Aberdeenshire as per Mets yellow warning. http://braemarscotland.co.uk/snowgate-webcam/
  19. Fingers crossed it starts dumping down soon, at least for the Scottish ski centres.
  20. Braemar should do okay for snow this evening. Blizzards expected for parts of Scotland today above 300 meters.
  21. The warnings cover 2 days, select Tuesday. Latest update from MWIS: PLANNING OUTLOOK All mountain areas of Britain from Tuesday 22nd January 2019 The colder conditions will continue across the mountains over the next week or fortnight - perhaps longer. Mountain temperatures will frequently be sub-freezing, often to lower slopes in Scotland, although from Thursday to Sunday this week, there will be cycles of freeze and thaw Scottish Highlands, whilst elsewhere, summit temperatures will most often be above freezing point. Precipitation wise, there will be further snow, albeit some melting periods later this week. Next week, there may well be extensive fresh snowfall, substantial in some areas. Patience.....
