White Xmas for Aberdeen on this run. *looks for Paddy Power account details* -
Model Output Discussion - Colder spell ending, what's to follow?

I think the best hope for a white Christmas - as things stand, is for a ridge to be thrown up before the big day, bringing in cold air and then a low pressure ‘runner’ zipping across the country with snow to its northern flank. -

I’d rather it was towards Greenland. -

I don’t know why people give it so much credence (especially when forecasting cold). -
Winter 2020/21 - Moans, Ramps & Chat

We’ve had bitter, cobra and snowballs mentioned this morning. What’s the betting that the only drink we end up with is a pint of mild? Pass the scotch egg. I still am expecting a cheeky Atlantic ridge to pop up and make things sufficiently interesting for Christmas week. -

All we need is a slight ridge between Atlantic lows in the day 6/7 range and we’re laughing. Not much to ask for is it? -

I honestly thought you’d been around this place long enough to see the bigger picture on a chart like that....the massive Arctic high nosing in for example? -
Model output discussion - Winter has arrived

Sounds like nonsense - what does Scotland being further north have to do with it? It has more ‘high ground’ which is why parts of Scotland can get away with higher 850’s. -

If we get to this point at 1 week out I would call it promising. No point looking further than this. -

Morning all, back for another season in the madhouse. The high pressure out east certainly looks to be more robust than previous years - does this increase the risk of a fabled SSW later in the winter? -
Model Output Discussion - Happy New Year!

Worth pointing out that Icon has shown no interest in amplification now for the second run on the bounce Hopefully it’s not a trend setter. -

UKMO starting to look a bit more interesting imo. Signs of HP building out east and lows sinking southwards with time. -
Outlier I'm afraid, Gavin has already brought the breaking, bad news.

Starting to look like we could challenge mildest February on record instead of looking for a cold spell.

At this point I'm thinking - does it really mean anything if we do get a good one or not?

It's amazing how often people look at cold charts in the distance and comment on how dry they look. Come the time, disturbances always seem to crop up and deliver snow falls (usually only spotted at 3/4 days out).

That could evolve to something decent from that position.

Yes.
