Please post up the video snow cat. Would love to see.
What's the best way to do that?
-
Cheers guys. I've seen a couple like that here in the past, I took a couple of videos this evening too I've got one including that swirl, but watching it, it's a bit short I should have done a long video of it passing, will next time. :winky:

There was an awesome front to the thunderstorm here. Thought I would share my photos:
-
More dark thundery looking clouds out in the channel heading this way looks just like yesterday.
-
That large mass of heavy rain has, just like last week, become electrified in places in the Channel
Had quite a bit of rain here for about an hour, a few flashes and rumbles but not much lightening.
There was a nice roll of cloud as it was moving in.
-
Snow grains.
-
Light snow here too but mostly wet/sleety. Still cold.
-
Can see something coming out of the clouds towards Folkestone, hasn't reached here yet.
-
I'm sure that if we go by the models then every chance of a snow shower or two tonight - especially over Hythe
You can be sure I'll have my eye on the nearest lamp post.

So whats happening tonight then? Snow? The GFS charts showing some pretty cold air over the south east and precipitation through the night:

Showers on the radar are filtering down the channel and I can see them going out to sea. I want them inland! (only if they are wintery in nature).
-
Thats wierd the net weather radar isnt really showing much, you think there is some more out in the North sea?
Its certainly dark over the channel and raintoday shows some small showers starting to come in off the north sea.

Ideal conditions here, ideal conditions being second to a major blizzard of course! , but ideal for keeping the current snow cover. Cold and cloudy so the sun isn't helping it melt off. Though the melt off is starting a bit, some snow sliding off roof tops and a gradual shrinking of the snow. Roads and paths now messy with footprints and grit but away from where the public have been such as the fields look lovely.

More snow than Feb 1991?
Or even 1995/96...
or, dare i say New Year 96/97
That I've seen anyway, I only moved here a few years back so I didn't see the 1987 huge style drifting unfortunately though where I was had a good fall of 6 to 8 inches.
Nice bright clear crisp morning here, snows compacted and crunchy.
-
I had 24cm in my back garden so I'm going to round that up to 10"
Snow drifts out on the hills were amazing knee deep at best, thigh deep in places and shoulder deep on a couple of spots...
Thought I would give the snow a measure.
I see your 10" and raise it with 11"..:
but...
..
I'm only joking that was a drift. Okay, here's a measurement directly outside the door:
Still the most I've seen since '87.

So.. snow depths. BBC South east today said the snow totals were 23cm Hawkinge (9 inches?) and 20cm Folkestone, I forget the others I think they said 18cm Eastbourne. I'm not sure how much we got here, but where would be a good place to measure?. Because I just went out and the snow seemed quite deep out the back, but then the snow has blown it everywhere, some places are deeper where its drifted and some shallower. If you measure on the beach or in a field then its bound to be deeper too because the wind will have just blown snow off all the trees and houses onto the flat surface. So.. How would one choose a suitable place to put a ruler?

Any more pics? i'm getting snow withdrawal here!
I want to see those 5 foot drifts in Hastings, not doubting, just keen to see them!
-
Snow drifts of up to five foot in Hastings Country park (very high ground exposed to the Northeaster)
Great! Going to take photos?
Still snowing here on and off, moderate then heavy then light again.
-
Heavy snow falling again here on top of last nights snow, dark grey sky an absolute picture out there.
-
Absolutely chuffed when I woke up this morning to find extra snow and drifts!. A real snow fest in this corner of Kent. I think this is the most I've seen since 1987. Snow varies as the wind has blown it. From 4 to 8 inches most places and more in drifts. Excellent!. Cars can't get out, one tried and got halfway across the road and got stuck their back wheels kept spinning then they gave up and had to use a shovel to free the wheels so they could drive back into the parking spot again. Hardy any cars on the road. People walking their dogs down the middle of the road. Drifts of about 1 feet around cars and 2 feet up against walls and fences. Stunning!.
Some photos:

go to bed!!! :D
Yes you're right I should.
Parting photo, had to tone the colours a bit to pick it up but the sky towards Folkestone with snow and streetlight reflections looked like it was on fire!.
Night all enjoy the snow!

Three heaters?
Well I thought I'd speed it up you see. There's actually a storage heater on the wall and I have two fan heaters in there too. It's already cosy. Only problem is now I don't want to sleep because it's snowing. But then do I watch it now and lie in, or get up early with not much sleep to see what we've had. Hm decisions decisions.
-
It's really come down again and I just looked out the back because the wind is blowing the snow everywhere and not laying it out evenly like with gentle snow, you can't tell where the footpath ends and the road starts!.
