Hi Brian - it is going totally mental out there atm!!
Whereabouts are you on the Kent borders?
-
Haa haa, this is becoming quite an exclusive club tonight, i had planned on going to bed, the stars were out, but just like your area, it apears to be bulding up to something again here.
I'll be in, for a short while. Was thinking of hopping in bed. Just realised I had not pre-heated the room. I can't sleep when its 9 celsius in there! lol. So got 3 heaters in there to warm it up. Snows stopped here for the moment. But wind is whipping snow everywhere, footprints quickly covered etc.
Just spotted this novel use of the snow outside, wonder if they accepted:
That slightly lumpy area of snow on the beach, thats my snow angel, which has almost been covered already by the blown snow.
-
I was just wondering whether you've thought about posting your pictures in the Gallery as well?
I'll have a look!.
Great pictures Snow Cat. Just a few flakes here throughout the day. Probably just as well cause Im not sure I could have survived the almost constant 'whiteouts' and 'blizzards' that seem to have been reported for most of the day in other parts of Kent
Yeah it's a tough life, but I'll gladly take that heavy burden of having to trudge through snow lol.

That's very inviting snow you've got there Snow Cat. I'm not surprised you were tempted into walking through it. I'm not sure whether it's your pictures, but the snow looks softer than usual. It's almost like shaving foam. Are you sure you don't have one of those snow machines?
It was extremely powdery and wouldnt stick, very difficult getting the mini snowman to stay together!. Walking on the beach was strange due to the wind blown snow, you would walk along in 2 inches and then go to bare stonesthen your foot sinking into 3 or 6 inches and so on. So much fun though. And my fingers still haven't warmed up!
-
I couldn't resist going out for a walk in the snow with my camera and it was even better than I imagined!
I think we were in a sweet spot here. So far this evening about 2 inches in most places, with 3 to 4 inches laying on the beach. I went on the beach where the snow hadn't been touched and looked out. Standing there it was like being in the Artic, looking ahead with snow as far as the eye could see as the wind gusted and swirled and eddied the snow over the lying snow like sand dunes. Couldn't make a snowball, the snow was too dry and powdery and stuck to my glove.
I walked over to the edge of the beach where it drops towards the shoreline and the wind had drifted the snow into a great drift all the way down the beach of 6 inches deep. So I ran through it all!. Then it started snowing again.
Absolutely amazing experience. Now just waiting for my fingers to regain warmth!.

Hm, I can see far too many stars in the sky for my liking!
-
Can confirm the snow is still coming down here, light bursts then heavier bursts, but pretty much continuous at the moment.
-
Blizzard conditions again here , snowing and wind whipping the lying snow all over the place.
-
That's quite some conditions there updraft. Snow beginning to fall again now but just took this as the setting sun was catching those showers out to sea:
-
Mini snow TORNADOES on the beach! Wind is whipping the snow off the stones and swirling it in circles, never seen that.
Wonderful day for weather watching, couple of snaps between showers..
-
Oh my goodness. If what we just had here wasn't even part of tonights snow fall we are in for a treat.
It wasn't even a shower, more like a monster shower. I would class it as blizzard conditions.
Blinding snow, strong gusting winds, people were running for cover out the back!
-
Snow just went proper mental here! Wouldn't call it a blizzard but heavy snow covering everything.
And while hanging out the window I collected some inside
-
Okay, who stole my snow flake size?, hand it back! I'm not going to get 6 inches with thse small flakes ya know lol.
-
blizzard like here in Dover now... almost inch of snow on the tin shed roof by the looks of it... roads covered.
Think that's heading this way, the sky is dark "black" over Folkestone heading this way..
Look the snow is hanging out of the sky ready to hit!

This is more like it. You know its snowing proper when you dont even have to get up and look out the window to see snow flakes as they are big and streaming at the windows.
-
10 to 15 cm over eastern Kent. Some drifting of snow is also possible.
6 inches and drifts Hope we get a Folkestone streamer (is there such thing? ) like that which dumped 6 inches in Dec 2005.
That nicely developing blob approaching NE Kent soon from the looks of things
I was just watching that myself.
-
I hope the snow later is going to be a bit heavier than this, is all just light and swirling in the wind.
Can someone give the north sea convection generator crank handle a few turns?
-
Did it lay down there when we had that earlier shower Snow Cat? When I dropped the children off to school in Folkestone it had laid but the second the sun came out it started melting
No not really, the earlier shower didn't last long it sort of covered the road a bit and then melted off so you didn't miss much. Look out later though!.
Here's pictures from between two showers:
Big cloud coming now:
-
Showers starting to bunch together, steadier snow bigger flakes but not really settling yet, being blown around too much in the wind.
-
Light snow here.
Carol Kirkwood just said south of Canterbury to Eastbourne for snow later, that includes me.
-
I do believe it's hailing, snowing and graupaling out there!.
-
I thought it was going to be a new programme but was mostly a re-hash of the one shown last year. Still worth a watch for most snow lovers though. This programme is repeated Saturday at 7pm on Channel 4. Program details.

It has and it's chucking it down here again!. Shame I am about to go to bed.
Kind of tempted to wake up early and see what snow we have had overnight!.
