  1. Was snowing quite heavily here in the early hours of this morning, but it really struggled to settle due to wet ground etc. A few more snow and hail showers through the day today which gave a temporay light covering at times, but as Damian has noted above, looks to be a good chance of a covering of snow overnight and into tomorrow morning with a nice packet of showers heading for the region from the North-East.
  2. ECM showing a nice covective set-up for midweek with cold upper air and the sun with a bit strength to it now should provide some nice cloudscapes with hail being quite common i would think.
  3. Quite an impressive strat warming starting at the moment with a wind reveral developing through all layers in the next week or so,with the remaining Polar vortex setting up shop near Scandi, which will likely provide quite a shock to the system for many after this weeks warmth.
  4. You couldn't make it up could you? Literally the first day of Spring, suddenly the Polar Vortex is carved in half.
  5. Yes,some unusually cold air crossing the Atlantic in the next day or so with 850 hpa temps. of -8 to -10 really increasing instability.
  6. A bit puzzled as to why NE England isn't included in the yellow Met office wind warning for tonight, with 60-70 mph gusts looking likely, and often these can be stronger to the east of high ground.
  7. The storm really showing up well now on latest satellite.
  8. Yes,looks to be further north at this point than the modelling suggested.

  11. I admire your nerve. If i lived in Cornwall i would be out buying some new underpants.
  12. The worst of the wind for the region looks to start about 5pm today and continuing into the early hours, with more power cuts probable, made worse by previous storms weakening the infrastructure. As for Friday's storm, looks like high ground especially is in for its first real dumping of snow of the winter as the center of the LP tracks directly over us,but i'm hoping we will miss the strongest of the winds.
  13. Pro forecasters probably passing round the valium towards the end of the week, with thursday and especially friday looking well dodgy. GEM and a few GEFS. edit.ECM 12z with a similar theme.
  14. Something nasty in the woodshed being advertised for next Thursday by the ECM and some wild GEFS as well.
  15. Why am i thinking of Monty Python? Certainly a beastly PV this winter and set to continue by the look of it,although it will come to the point where it is to strong for its own good....
  16. Yeah, was surprised to see a fresh covering of snow this mornring, normally showers moving from the west fizzle out on the pennine's.
  17. Merry Christmas to all. Interesting "sausage" vortex on the ECM mean at day 10.
  18. Yes,the ECM really teasing for christmas day on the overnight run.
  19. Yes,yellow weather warning for rain with snow falling over 300m,but snow level is way lower. Snowing quite heavy here with a good covering which will catch people out.
