  1. All nine of the country's counties have measured their warmest January ever. Several of the records are broken at the country's oldest measuring stations. Rekordvarm januar i ni fylker WWW.MET.NO Hele ni av landets fylker har målt sin varmeste januar noensinne. Flere av rekordene slås på landets eldste målestasjoner. Many stations also recorded their wettest January ever. So.. will it be warmest WINTER ever? I think we are pretty close, weather models for the first half of February show no signs of change
  2. Oslo airport is 30min inland from the city centre. It is considerably snowier and colder than Oslo City centre. I am waiting for the stats but I am pretty sure this January should be somewhere between 1989 and 1990 regarding temperature. Many areas in the western part of the country broke the January rainfall record. The previous was(guess what..) January 1989! PS. A lot of you compare this winter with 06-07 and 13-14. Actually these winters although generally mild, they were surprisingly among the snowiest of the last 20 years for here! I can only compare this winter with 88-89 and 89-90 both in terms of mildness and the general atmosphere circulation.
  3. Another joke rubbish run from ECMWF. It keeps seeing the same pattern the last 15 days for 216-240 hours and of course is never verifying.
  4. It gets ridiculous. How many times during the past 15 days have we seen the same set up for 240 hours?? I am starting to believe that either we are too unlucky, or there is a systematic bias of models towards that direction
  5. I don't think so. Most winters that it was warm here in dec and jan continued at the same pattern. I have never seen so successful seasonal models as this year and they are pretty bad for the rest of the winter. Some signals must have been so strong this winter, I can't explain how they have seen it so well
  6. New record for January temperature in # Trøndelag Between 13 and 14, the station at Rissa measured 14.0 degrees. The old record was 13.8 degrees, set in 1971 on Vinjeøra
  7. Watching the weather models today, I think we are getting closer to January of 1989 and 1990. They were by far the warmest here and maybe we can surpass them? Who knows.. What an awful winter, we are even struggling to get some below freezing lows.
  8. This winter seems identical to awful 88-89 and 89-90. I can't see how the pattern can change, the seasonal models nailed it this time
  9. Same here. Even though there is a noticeable trend towards milder winters (especially the first half of them), the big snow events here were always from mid January onwards.
  10. The setup for northern Iceland is totally insane for tomorrow. 12bf winds and over 100mm of precipitation as snow A unique event even for Iceland
  11. Things are moving towards the long range model forecast agreement. Intense zonality pattern and mild throughout Europe
  12. We had a pretty decent snowstorm last night. 22cm officially here and about 20-30cm in most areas of southeast Norway. Early season snowfall caused as usual snow chaos on the roads due to unprepared drivers with summer tires. Unfortunately it will be all gone tomorrow, southeastern winds will bring rain and milder temperatures
  13. And can this influence the weather patterns during the next months? It is very likely that November will follow October as the colder of the last decade US and Canada are also getting some fierce cold waves for that time of the year.
  14. Norway had it's coldest October in 10 years. November also, at least for the first 10 days, seem to be colder than usual Oktober 2019 er den kaldeste i Norge på ti år WWW.NRK.NO I Finnmark har det vært -27 grader allerede.
