  1. Nice day for late January and also for the Holly Holy Day event in Nantwich. Pity about the result at Crewe Alex this afternoon!
  2. Dry, mild and bright this morning, just right for the Alex this afternoon at home to Salford. Another three points would make the day even better.
  3. @Jan yes, heard about these record temperatures for January on the BBC weather forecast.
  4. A lovely day for a walk in the local park, but a very chilly wind making it feel cold despite the sun.
  5. I didn't wake at all last night and not sure whether the wind and rain affected us. Another lovely morning and looks good for a canal towpath walk this afternoon.
  6. Hard to believe that this event took place 34 years ago today. It certainly was a historic event in weather history.
  7. Not a bad day here, dry and mild although hardly any glimpses of the sun after mid-morning. My daily cycle ride became a push-bike exercise after a tyre blew out on one of Cheshire East's notorious potholes. I was not best pleased! Edit - thinking back 34 years to Burns Day 1990, the weather was certainly very different to today, and I remember seeing some sea-front shelters being smashed to bits by huge waves at Little Bispham / Cleveleys on the Fylde coast.
  8. Yes, certainly noisier here than on Sunday night and under a clear sky as well. Quite a contrast this morning, calm and quite bright.
  9. @Cheshire Freeze Definitely worse than Sunday, and worse to come perhaps?
  10. Meanwhile.... 15.4C today somewhere in Cheshire East, some sort of record according to the local forecast on BBC NW News. Wind is really getting up with clear skies, and seems worse than Sunday evening here.
  11. We seem to have missed the worst of the rain and really only grey and damp until now. As for the wind, nothing to speak of so far, but the yellow warning has only just kicked in, so likely that the wind will increase in strength this evening/night.
  12. Rain has just arrived and wind picking up again, with a stormy 24 hours in prospect.
  13. Same as New Brighton but without the big waves (fortunately). A couple of passing showers earlier but nothing more in the way of precipitation.
  14. Doubtful in view of 'actuals' with Isha and wind forecasts for Jocelyn
  15. Windy here last night but not as bad as feared and a bright breezy morning now. My sympathies with all who have been badly affected by wind and flooding in my old home towns of Blackpool and Lancaster and also further north into the Lake District.
  16. Cloudy and grey but no real rain yet to speak of. Wind definitely starting to pick up as expected and glad that I can spend this afternoon and evening indoors at home.
  17. Very short notice but the programme about the Thames floods of Jan 1928 is on tonight (Sat) at 9.30pm on Ch 5.
  18. Possibly, but not according to Chris F at lunchtime who had the Islands in the teeth of the Storm with winds in excess of 80mph. I suppose you may yet get in the eye of the storm but I don't think you should count on that. Good luck!
  19. Shades of 'The Glasgow Hurricane' of 14th - 15th January 1968 in which 20 people were killed and 1000 homes badly damaged (Eden). I recall visiting a friend in Stirling sometime after the event and seeing swathes of trees still lying on the ground. Although there could certainly be arguments about upgrading the warnings earlier rather than later, I am certain that the authorities are already well aware of the potential for Storm Isha and are taking steps to reduce the effects on the communities at most risk.
  20. Yellow wind warning now issued for Tuesday into Wednesday.
  21. With a separate yellow wind warning now issued for late Tuesday into Wednesday.
  22. Spits and spots of rain since 7am and a completely different feel to the weather compared with previous mornings.
  23. I'm sorry Cryoraptor A303 that you've stepped down and thank you, Summer of 95, for taking over for the 3rd/4th place final. I can't say I understood much of the technical stuff, but I have enjoyed the trips down memory lane. I have happy memories of many of the heatwaves and am pleased that August 2003, July 2022, July 2019 and July 2006 are in the top four, and also that August 1947 appeared as a worthy rep of the 20th century, although hastening to add that I don't remember that far back! I know that some of us wanted to see 1976 appearing in the later rounds and, despite its early elimination, I will always retain many happy (and some not-so-happy) memories of that 'Summer of 76'. Thank you for organising the competition which I imagine is a first for Netweather, and best wishes for the future.
