  1. Rather chilly in the breeze but not bad for January. We are in to the coldest bit of the year. Nothing cold for my team Wolves beat WBA in the FA CupNo doubt winter will have a sting in the tail. Still Feb and March to go for cold fans.
  2. 34 days to go . Noticed this evening a definite change in the look of the weather. More definition in the clouds. The glare of the sun off the trees. Light in the sky at 17.20. Two thirds through on 30th Jan. Winter on its way out
  3. @Alderc 2.0 Doesn't get much better for January. Especially after the minus 8 last week
  4. Shades of 88/89 with that High down to the South and the SW winds flowing to the NE. You won't find me complaining. GFS 18z delivers.
  5. Pretty turbulent out there. Just walked down the road from the local pub. It's all downhill with the prevailing wind coming full on in your face. With the rain it was not particularly pleasant. However. The trade off is +8c in the morning so it doesn't feel like you are going to the bog in a freezer! Swings and roundabouts. Sunny and cold v mild wet and windy !
  6. Yeah. 5 and a half weeks until March. The longer the extreme cold stays away the better. Bloke who comes in our local pub jetting out to India for the test cricket India v England. He said 'enjoy the winter' as he left the pub.
  7. Hate the cold with a vengeance. The minus 8 Thursday morning was a real test.
  8. Vest From The West on the doorstep. The hideous cold being ushered away. Still a raw breeze out there. Looking forward to a balmy 12c tomorrow. A long time coming too.
  9. True mate. Frightened to say anything without someone jumping down your throat.
  10. The days of looking for a heatwave are a distant dream Don. Still plenty of time for your snow bomb chap.
  11. Blimey. Coldest I've felt all winter today. It really is chilly. One of those days in the sun out of the breeze not so bad. In the shade with a breeze terribly cold. At least it's not snowing
  12. That chart doesn't get any better for me in mid-winter. The next 5 mornings of sub zero temperature fill me with dread. I love mild weather in winter and if the chart comes off will be very happy
  13. Don't worry Don. Have a feeling February might deliver the white stuff (and I mean snow).
  14. Hold my hands up. Never has it been terrible cold so far. But as a summer lover must admit I am doubting down the days towards spring Counting...
  15. Perked up by the sight of the Atlantic sweeping away the chill about one week from now. Looking forward to it. Then the countdown begins to spring. Tick tock....
  16. High to move further West as week goes on. Consequently slightly milder air in the mix as the East influence cut off. Still dry. A merciful outlook for the poor souls affected by flooding.
  17. A steady decrease in temperature during the week and also a drier spell since Tuesday. Although not a fan of chilly weather the next week is welcome. We have had our share of rainfall this past 12 months. I have a feeling 2024 could deliver something more akin to seasonal variation. We will see.
  18. Agree. Awful year 2023. Terrible spring. Decent early summer. Week in September. Some stuff in October. Otherwise. Rain rain rain rain.
  19. Happy New Year all. Looks like High Pressure is taking over by the weekend. We desperately need a few weeks of dry weather. The constant rain is getting tiresome now. Where the High goes is crucial to how the winter progresses. If the High is to the south/SW/SE it is likely mild/dry/cloudy. If it goes north/ north east/east/ north west it will please (probably) the cold fans. Whatever it does enjoy 2024!
  20. Good evening. Talk of Spring above. I calculate 14th January at mid day to be exactly half way in winter 23/24. So 12:01 onwards is on the other side downhill towards spring. Next couple of weeks the catkins will appear. Then end of January the hawthorn hedgerows buds will appear. Evenings drawing out. It's all there. But also the coldest part of the year so still time for Coldies to celebrate!
  21. I was speaking with my old Dad (93) today. In his experience 47 and 63 were snowy winters. Likewise 76 was a true hot summer. I think the lesson to learn is in our climate the Atlantic dominates and we usually have to settle for wet and windy temperate dross be it December June January or August.
