  1. Incorrect, it’s not always colder in the North, there has been colder days and nights in the south this month. Easterly winds often bring the lowest temperatures to the south of the UK.
  2. To be fair, it’s only easterlies that really deliver the goods, for most of the UK, so let’s hope models firm up on the real deal. Remember, the models have never handled easterlies well, they tend to appear at short notice.
  3. Nope, I stand by my comments, as they are true. I could give examples of forecasts back in the 80’s 7 days out that were more accurate than anything I’ve seen today. You shouldn’t be calling my comments ridiculous and asking me to remove them, as it’s just my view, older bean!
  4. This Is the reason I don’t look beyond 5 days, it’s pointless. These super computer generated models are no more accurate than a 5 year old scribbling on paper. In fact I believe the long range forecasts have not improved greatly over the last 40 years. Best to stick to 3 - 4 days out, as blocking type weather throws up easterlies at short notice. The charts beyond 5 days are just for fun, last nights and today’s models prove that.
  5. We will need to wait 7 days before getting anywhere near knowing what Christmas will be like, the models are not handling it well and easterlies tend to show up within 3 - 4 days.
  6. That would bring rather cold, dry weather. Need more of an easterly feed, which could follow down the line.
  7. But you must know that NW members use their own experience to read the charts and make their forecasts, and surely you know that most charts + 5 days should be taken with a pinch of salt.
  8. Not sure there’s no cold on the horizon. From what perspective? If you look at the NH profile, you can see that a cold outbreak is more than possible. Most people on here are of a cold persuasion during winter, I guess there are some who are looking for mild.
  9. A Greenland high isn’t a necessity for very cold weather, Scandinavia high would deliver on its own, providing there are low heights over Southern Europe.
