  1. In my post yesterday I noted that the sky was completely overcast and I guessed that it would rain shortly; well, I was wrong. I've been wrong before, twice actually, but almost from the point when I shut down my computer the sky started clearing and by 5pm the sun was splitting the heavens and my back garden was infested with blokes drinking beer. This morning we're back to an overcast sky and the only thing that's splitting is my heid. Temperature was at 20.2deg.C at 11:52 up from a minimum of 12.0deg.C at 01:21 and it's currently 18.7deg.C, humidity is 70%, wind 1 to 3mph southerly, pressure is 1011.6hPa falling slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8.8 but it's still a bright enough day. Strange thing happened this morning when I came in to my office. There was a bird in it. With wings and feathers and things. No windows or doors had been open and although there is a birds' nest in the eaves directly above there are no apparent apertures 'tween here and there. Odd!
  2. The met office forecast says it should be cloudy with sunny intervals and an easterly wind right now, the BBC says it should be cloudy with showers and a westerly wind and the netweather forecast says it should be changing imminently from sunny to rain with a northerly wind. So, nothing new there then. What I've observed so far today is that a cloudless sky at 07:00 has changed to an overcast sky now with a couple of breaks and a couple of black-bottomed, voluminous clouds making their way towards me from the west. I would bet on it getting more than a tad moist hereabouts in the near future. Temperature max for today so far was 20.2deg.C at 11:53 up from a minimum of 12.1deg.C at 01:04 and it's currently 19.7deg.C, humidity has risen from a low of 60% at 11:11 to 65% now, wind is generally 0mph with a very occasional 1mph fart from the west, pressure is 1016.4hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 7/8 as I type, but it's just got a little bit brighter again.
  3. Today stayed sunny all day and that enticed me to return to the coast to see if Arran had risen from the mist of yesterday, and indeed it had, which was nice to see. As was the sea. Temperature got up to 23.0deg.C at 16:04, minimum humidity was 36%, wind stayed very light but swung round to a southeasterly, pressure slowly reduced to 1019.1hPa and is now steady and cloud cover was about 2/8 for the bulk of the day.
  4. July has started the way June finished, bright and sunny, however although the sky to the east has 1/8 cloud cover with that being high and feathery, to the west the cloud cover is 5/8 with big, white, puffy affairs that look to me like a less appealing weather front approaching, which one would expect as the schools are now on holiday and weeks of rain can't be far away. Temperature now up to 21.1deg.C up from a minimum of 8.9deg.C at 05:11, humidity is 58%, wind is 1 to 3mph southerly, pressure is 1020.0hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 3/8.
  5. Today started off badly; partly because it was grey and overcast but mostly because I had a pulmonary function test at the hospital. This particular test is one where a lady in blue scrubs puts a person who can't breath properly in a sealed box and makes them suck and blow in a manner that both she and the patient already know the patient can't do. I hate it. However, today my older daughter came out of quarantine and so she and my other daughter both made my test bit easier by driving me down to Crosshouse, and afterwards to Barassie beach where we had a lovely gentle stroll. It was grey and misty there but by the time we got back to my village the sun was out and we had a great lunch in the beer garden. It's remained sunny since. Temperature maxed out at 23.2deg.C at 16:22 up from a minimum of 11.7deg.C at 02:27, humidity is 57%, wind is 0 to 2mph west-northwesterly, pressure is 1019.9hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is currently 4/8 but high and thin.
  6. Big white puffy clouds are billowing up over Glasgow to my north, where I was with my brother earlier on and the car thermometer was reading 25deg.C. The sky over head back home is clear, as is the sky to the south, and although it's cooler here it's still plenty hot enough for me. Maximum temperature here was 23.4deg.C at 13:36 up from a minimum of 10.2deg.C at 05:18 and it's currently 22.2deg.C, humidity is 65%, wind is 1 to 6mph westerly, pressure is 1019.3hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 3/8.
  7. What a great day! Pigs have arrived at the farm and are settling in, the weather there was glorious, the fields are full of wild flowers that I hope are keeping the sheep happy, and the dug was in playful mode. Altogether a delightful visit. I've decided to call the pigs Ham and Bacon. Was talking to the farmer who delivered the snorkers and he has four more sheep and a Highland cow and calf he "could let me have for a good price". Whether that's a good price for him or me has yet to be agreed. On a separate note, the field next to ours is apparently also available... Temperature maxed out at 21.8deg.C at 13:58, humidity dropped to 51% at 15:57, the wind remained very light and the sky has remained very largely clear all day. This is my idea of a perfect summer.
  8. The muggy muck from the last few days appears to have buggered off somewhere else for now leaving a lovely sunny day behind, which is nice as I've got things my daughter wants done up at the farm and it will be nice to have some decent weather for that. Temperature 21.4deg.C up from a minimum of 8.6deg.C at 04:38, humidity is 62%, wind is 2 to 4mph northwesterly, pressure 1019.5hPa falling slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 1/8 thin and high.
  9. This morning the sky was completely overcast, the wind was non-existent and humidity was above 80% for the most part, and so it felt quite clammy out. The cloud has now started breaking and humidity is down so although there's still no wind it doesn't feel as sticky as it did earlier. Temperature 21.6deg.C (max. for the day) up from a minimum of 11.6deg.C at 04:10, humidity is 62%, wind is 0mph, pressure is 1020.8hPa falling slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 6/8.
  10. Ha ha ha Hancock. Another big hypocrite was yesterday's weather; dull and damp all day and then suddenly cleared to a beautiful evening of clear sky and sunshine, promising a lovely day today. Did it happen? No, of course it didn't. Off to buy pigs today, which should be fun. Temperature 13.8deg.C up from a minimum of 8.7deg.C at 00:56, humidity is 75%, wind 0 to 2mph northerly, pressure is 1025.3hPa steady, there's been no rain today and the cloud cover is 8/8.
  11. It's been a rubbishy rainy sort of a day today with the rain never being heavy but pretty constant throughout, and so it's also been dull and chilly for June. Maximum temperature was 15.1deg.C at 11:43 up from a minimum of 12.0deg.C at 07:49 and currently 13.1deg.C, humidity is 92%, wind is 1 to 2mph south-southwesterly, pressure is 1018.9hPa falling slowly, there's been 7.0mm of rain today so far and cloud cover is a thick 8/8.
  12. Trade deals are directed by cabinet ministers. The current crop of cabinet ministers were chosen from a limited pool of pro-Brexit Tories who, by definition, are not the brightest spoons in the drawer and who, without fail, fail. The only surprising thing about the Aussie deal is that it took so long to reach agreement when our side could only see as far as getting an agreement. Any agreement. Today is a bit disappointing after the wall to wall blueness of yesterday. This morning's early rain gave way to mist that eventually lifted at lunchtime but left a heavy humidity behind, which makes it difficult to breath when one's lungs are knackered. Temperature currently highest of the day at 14.2deg.C up from 9.9deg.C at 00:46, humidity is 89%, wind 3 to 6mph south-southwesterly, pressure is 1025.0hPa steady, there's been 3.0mm of rain this morning and cloud cover is 8/8.
  13. It's been a really nice, sunny morning here and I've been taking advantage by sitting out the back and soaking up the rays. I've noticed again that a westerly wind has next to no effect on my weather station whereas the wind turbine on the farm up the hill is going like the clappers. My reading is currently 3mph southeasterly (bounce-back from the house) while the turbine is whirring round on a westerly orientation and my weather app says it's around 10mph. I think I need an anemometer up on the ridge of my house but the Hysteric Scotland will probably have a fit as this is a conservation area. If they had their way I'd only be allowed to park a horse and cart out the front. Temperature is currently 17.6deg.C up from a minimum of 4.0deg.C at 05:00, humidity is 54%, wind is blustery and probably a westerly, pressure is 1024.9hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 3/8.
  14. The cloud started dispersing at lunchtime and by sunset the sky was mainly blue. All downhill from here... Temperature reached a maximum of 17.7deg.C at 16:45,humidity got down to 49% at 18:20, wind has dropped to zero, pressure is up to 1023.4hPa now, there has been no rain today and cloud cover is 1/8.
  15. Yesterday was dull and grey all day with temperatures topping out around 15 degrees and nearly 5mm of rain falling in the early morning. Today is a bit better and although it's still mainly overcast there is a bit of brightness about. Going to see isolating daughter this afternoon but only through the wire. Temperature currently 15.8deg.C up from a minimum of 7.6deg.C at 03:27, humidity is 60%, wind is 1 to 3mph northwesterly, pressure is 1020.6hPa rising slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 7/8.
  16. My older daughter arrived today from Spain to spend a few weeks here, and although I thought it was warm enough to be dressed in a t-shirt and shorts she kept disappearing inside at my younger daughter's house (where she is isolating) to put on additional layers. I'm sure she'll either acclimatise or lower her expectations soon enough. Maximum temperature today was 19.6deg.C at 15:57 up from a minimum of 10.6deg.C at 03:31, maximum humidity was 86% at 03:58 dropping to a minimum of 56% at 17:30, wind has been very light all day, pressure is 1014.0hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover has varied from 2/8 early on to 6/8 later in the afternoon.
  17. Another nice day to be plonked out in the garden doing as little as possible. It could almost have been mistaken for a summer day. Temperature got up to 20.3deg.C at 17:25 up from a chilly minimum of 3.0deg.C at 05:05, humidity max was 93% at 06:05 and the minimum was 46% at 13:06, wind has been light all day at 1 to 3mph north-northeasterly generally, pressure has remained remarkably constant between 1018.4hPa and 1018.5hPa, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover has ranged from 1/8 to 3/8 throughout today. Time for a beer.
  18. Was it something I said? (Not that I care, just curious.) Smashing day with lots of sunshine, little wind and low humidity. A bit more like the June we all know and love. Maximum temperature was 19.0deg.C at 16:08 up from a minimum of 9.8deg.C at 05:04, humidity was 48% at 16:44 down from 89% at 04:07, wind has averaged 1.5mph northwesterly, pressure was 1011.5hPa at midnight and has risen to 1017.5hPa now, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover has been 2/8 to 3/8 throughout the day.
  19. Temperature eventually topped out at 17.0deg.C at 18:03 when the cloud was at its most broken, but cover is now back to 5/8 and the temperature has dropped to 11.0deg.C with humidity at 84%, no wind registering, pressure at 1011.9hPa rising slowly and no further rain having been recorded today.
  20. My daughter recently told me that she'd seen an oyster catcher down by the pond, to which I responded sarcastically that it was probably hunting for a lesser-spotter Scottish mountain oyster. Following a bit of research however, I discovered that oyster catchers are regular visitors to the moors in summer. Who'd have guessed? Apology and confirmation have been tendered. Weather-wise, today is cool and cloudy but with a fair bit of brightness (even occasional sunshine) getting through. Temperature currently maximum for the day so far at 15.8deg.C up from a minimum of 9.9deg.C at 06:46, humidity is 66%, wind 1 to 3mph southerly, pressure is 1010.4hPa steady, three's been 13.2mm of rain today (and in the last 24 hours) and cloud cover is 7/8 but has varied throughout the day.
  21. The temperature got up to the dizzy height of 14.6deg.C at 13:21 but has since fallen back to 10.6deg.C now, which is pish poor for June really. The wind has dropped to 1 to 3mph westerly and pressure is now 1023.9hPa steady, both of which are an improvement over earlier. Cloud cover is filling in from the west but clearing in the east and it's probably less dull now than it was this morning, and there's been 0.6mm more rain since then.
  22. I spent yesterday up at the farm so no access to the weather station at home but the car thermometer said 23 degrees as a maximum and the wind was strong enough that the barbeque had to be eaten inside and the chickens were being blown bum over beak past the byre and on down to the stables. I'd say that would be sustained speeds in the twenties up on the hill. Still a bit windy this morning but the temperature has been dropping since last night. Temperature was 13.6deg.C at midnight and dropped to 9.6deg.C at 06:06 since when it's risen to 13.4deg.C, humidity is 73%, wind is 3 to 13mph westerly, pressure is 1020.9hPa rising slowly, there's been 9.8mm of rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 7/8.
  23. Yesterday the temperature got up to 17 degrees C, which it doesn't look like it's going to reach today, and there were numerous sunny bits, which it also doesn't look like happening today, or at least not so far. Cloud cover is as thick as my hangover. Temperature currently maximum for the day at 14.2deg.C up from a minimum of 9.8deg.C at 02:18, humidity is 71%, wind is 2 to 5mph southerly, pressure is 1024.8hPa rising slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8.
  24. Apparently there was a partial eclipse this morning and there may also have been a giant fireball caused by the international space station crashing into the Earth's atmosphere and perhaps Biggles flew a biplane around the village with Dolly Parton wing walking in the nude while singing 9 to 5, but I missed it all due to heavy cloud cover, which lasted until the first break in the clouds around 4pm. The cloud has now mainly cleared off and it looks like being a nice evening. Maximum temperature was 20.6deg.C at 15:53 up from a muggy minimum of 14.6deg.C at 06:14 and it's now 19.7deg.C, humidity got down to 70% at 15:50, the wind has been in the range of 1 to 8mph south-southeasterly with a maximum gust of 16mph, pressure has dropped from 1017.0hPa at 00:35 to 1012.5hPa now and is still dropping slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is currently 1/8 or less.
  25. Temperature maximum was 18.2deg.C at 15:40 up from a minimum of 9.6deg.C at 00:37, humidity max was 87% at 07:23 reducing to a minimum of 66% at 14:06, maximum wind gust was15mph at 12:59 but early morning and late afternoon onwards was in the 2 to 5mph range generally southerly, pressure maximum was 1022.2hPa at 00:03 falling to 1020.4hPa now, there was very faint drizzle at lunchtime but not enough to register and it was completely overcast all day.
