  1. I’m very sorry to hear about your Dad and, as a fellow sufferer due to the doctors’ universal disappearing act, I feel for his frustration. I’m sure we all here wish him the quickest recovery possible. And not only to get rid of you. Meanwhile, as a measure of what an unusual period of weather we’ve had since the start of summer, I checked my anemometer earlier and found it had been tied down by a spider’s web, which is unbelievable for Scotland at any time of the year. Hereabouts in September we’re typically fetching primary school kids down from the playground catch-fence with window poles. Anyway, the temperature got up to 20.6⁰C at 15:10, the clouds broke up a bit momentarily, and the wind got up to 6mph at 15:13 with no more rain falling since this morning.
  2. This morning has been dry, calm, overcast and warm; perfectly usable but rather uninspiring. This afternoon I’m off up to Loch Lomond to look at boat with a view to a potential purchase. Oh, the excitement of a day out… Temperature is at 18.9⁰C up from a minimum of 15.4⁰C at 06:56, humidity is 86%, wind is zero for the third day running, (must check the anemometer,) pressure is 1006.7hPa rising slowly, there was 2.2mm of rain in the early hours of this morning and cloud cover is 8/8, slightly thicker then yesterday.
  3. I went up to the southside of Glasgow at lunchtime to visit my mother and one of my brothers had come through from East Lothia to visit also. He said that they had had thick fog earlier and some rain, which at least is weather. Not much happened in my part of the world at all. The temperature got up to 20.3⁰C at 14:16 and another 0.4mm of rain fell between 15:30 and 17:00. That was it.
  4. Damp, mild, calm and overcast this morning so not much to report. Except that, obviously. Temperature up to 18.1⁰C from a minimum of 16.1⁰C at 07:57, humidity is 85%, no wind registering, pressure is 1005.6hPa steady, there’s been 1.2mm of rain overnight and in the last 24 hours, cloud cover is 8/8 but fairly thin so it’s still quite bright.
  5. I see that @CatchMyDrift is back, and I hope he finds his dad in good spirits. I’m assuming his dragon is responsible for the unnecessary heat today, topping out at 28.2⁰C here, and the soothsayers say sooth of here was even hotter, which is frankly irresponsible at this time of year. Tomorrow, reverting to type, said dragon is prophesied to pish over the greater part of the country and let off explosively here and there. I’ll be staying inside, probably with AC/DC playing loudly in the background.
  6. Today marks my 1-Year Anniversary of joining this motley crew, and yes, I know that to you it seems longer, but nonetheless it’s true and to mark the occasion we are blessed with rather a lovely day. Temperature is up to 26.3⁰C from a minimum of 12.8⁰C at 04:07, humidity is 60%, there hasn’t been a breath of wind all morning, pressure is at 1011.5hPa falling slowly, there was 0.2mm of rain overnight apparently and cloud cover is a very thin and high 2/8. Oh, and someone’s stolen my exploding ice cream cone. That’s the thing with Admin types; they can’t abide the thought of giving you something without showing that they can take it away again. In any event, I didn’t ask for it, I don’t need it and I won’t miss it.
  7. The clouds from this morning had cleared away entirely by early afternoon and the temperature got up to 24.7⁰C here by 17:06, at which time the humidity got down to 64%. Pressure got down to 1016.6hPa at 18:48 and has climbed slightly since to 1016.8hPa now. The forecast says that it’s going to be hotter tomorrow but that really isn’t necessary, thank you, and another day just like today would be fine. If I was being picky some sunshine just a wee bit earlier would be nice.
  8. The sun has just broken through what until now has been a completely overcast morning, although zero wind and average humidity have meant that being outside was reasonably comfortable. Temperature now at 20.9⁰C up from a minimum of 15.1⁰C at 05:32, humidity is 77%, wind has been 0 to 1mph southwesterly, pressure is at 1020.2hPa steady, there’s been no rain today and cloud cover is 7/8.
  9. It stayed dull all day, except when it was dull and raining, and another 0.8mm of rain fell since earlier. Are we downhearted? Heck no! Let's get on with Autumn.
  10. We've had a nice wee bit of rain last evening, 2.0mm, and early this morning, 1.2mm, that has left the garden looking a lot happier and the cars looking a bit cleaner, which is fine by me. Overcast now and looks like remaining that way for the rest of the day. Temperature currently 17.7⁰C up from a minimum of 14.2⁰C at 00:19, humidity is 89%, wind 1 to 5mph southwesterly, pressure is 1020.9hPa steady, there’s been 3.2mm of rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8.
  11. It’s warmer now at 19.2⁰C than it was at any point yesterday, but that’s because there have been passing sunny periods today and there weren’t any yesterday. Maximum temperature today was 20.8⁰C up from a minimum of 9.6⁰C at 01:10, humidity was down at 63% at 14:04 but back up to 71% now, wind has been 1 to 8mph around southerly, pressure has risen from 1018.5hPa at 04:53 to 1019.3hPa now, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover has averaged 6/8 throughout the day. Nice to see @mistyqueen has made it back from her tour of duty fighting off the hoards of camper vans at the Kyleakin end of the bridge. Oh, I appear to have been awarded an exploding ice cream cone. Is that good or bad?
  12. There are some words that one simply doesn’t expect to hear in a single sentence, as evidenced in the national weather forecast today when ‘much needed’, ‘welcome’, ‘rainfall’ and ‘Scotland’ were used together to describe the upcoming weekend. My gast is utterly flabbered. Meanwhile, today dawned overcast but bright, just like yesterday, the cloud cover is only just beginning to break up at 2pm, just like yesterday, and the temperature is just north of 15⁰C, just like yesterday. If yesterday is a valid model, we’ll have unimpeded sunshine by 3pm and the temperature will be up to just north of 20⁰C by teatime, which would be nice as it’s beer garden day and that’s where I’ll be by teatime. Humidity is 76%, wind is 0 to 3mph northeasterly, and pressure has finally started to come down, now being 1023.7hPa and falling. Shock, horror! There was apparently 0.2mm of rain overnight.
  13. Man, what a stoater of a day today was, easily the best day of autumn so far. Dawn to dusk sunshine, not a cloud in the sky all day, and a maximum of 22.5⁰C at 14:41, light to nae winds at all and pressure remaining up around 1033hPa, height adjusted. Ayrshire is rocking the weather - boom boom.
  14. Autumn dawned here with wall to wall blue skies and a bit of a nip in the air; 10⁰C at 9am. Temperature now up to 20.9⁰C from a minimum of 7.6⁰C at 06:52, humidity is 58%, wind is 0 to 4mph northerly, pressure is steady at 1034.5hPa, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 0/8. Welcome autumn! (at least until @CatchMyDrift arrives on his incontinent dragon at the weekend)
  15. I had my monthly visit for tests at the Nurses’ Surgery this morning, and in celebration of the last day of summer and in acknowledgement of the beautiful sunshine at 9am, I chose to wear shorts, t-shirt and my RayBan Pilot sunglasses for the trip. The RayBans were perfect for the occasion, the shorts and t-shirt not so much as it wasn’t nearly as warm as it looked – only 14⁰C according to the car thermometer. Curiously, as the clouds closed in during the day, the temperature rose, if only by a bit, but it was still a nice enough day to top off an unusually fabulous summer in this corner of Scotland. Maximum temperature was 17.5⁰C at 17:16 up from a minimum of 9.2⁰C at 06:30, humidity got down to 64% at 15:42, wind was 0 to 7mph north-northeasterly, pressure went from 1032.2hPa at midnight to 1034.8hPa now and still rising slowly, there was no rainfall in the last 24 hours and cloud cover went from 2/8 in the early morning to 8/8 now. Maximum temperature for August was 25.2⁰C on the 24th and 156.8mm of rain fell in the month, nearly all of which was around the 8th with over 100mm in a day or so. Oh God, just seen the post above - we're doomed, doooomed I tell you...
  16. Today has remained overcast all day, like yesterday, rather than clearing to a broad blue sky as has been the way of things for the last couple of weeks. I take this, together with lengthening shadows, a change in the flowers bursting into bloom, a hint of coming coolness, the whiff of moisture in the air and the behaviour of seasonal birds as being signs that Summer is nearly over. Also, tomorrow is the 31st of August, which is the day before the first day of Autumn; ergo… Maximum temperature today was 15.1⁰C at 13:03 up from a minimum of 11.7⁰C at 05:27, humidity has been 71% to 75%, wind 0 to 10mph northeasterly, pressure has hovered a couple of points either side of 1030hPa and remains steady, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover has been 8/8 throughout.
  17. Yesterday started off overcast as it has for the last week it seems, and then, as usual, cleared up in the afternoon to a mere hint of a veil of high-level cloud that allowed the temperature to reach 19.8⁰C at teatime, up from a minimum temperature of 6.8⁰C overnight. Today started off overcast but, by way of a change, stayed overcast throughout the day pegging the maximum temperature back to 18.0⁰C at 16:21 reducing to a minimum of 10.7⁰C at 21.48, humidity got down to 65% at 17:41, wind has been 0 to 6mph northeasterly, pressure has gone from 1027.3hPa at 05:42 to 1028.8hPa now, still rising slowly, there’s been no rain in the last 48 hours and cloud cover is 8/8, as it has been all day.
  18. Groundhog day. At 9am the sky was completely overcast and the temperature was 12⁰C, now, at noon, the sky has cleared to 2/8 cover and the temperature is up to 18⁰C, humidity is 68%, wind is very light, pressure is 1025hPa steady and there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours. Last Friday of the month so the team is preparing to put a full shift in at the pub tonight, starting at 16:00, and it looks like a beer garden rendez-vous for at least the first half. Hoorah!
  19. Much like yesterday, today started off completely overcast and chilly but by lunchtime the sky was clear blue and a satisfying degree of degrees had set in. The only difference was that today saw a short period of light rain falling just before sunrise. Maximum temperature was 23.6⁰C at 17:06 up from a minimum of 12.8⁰C at 04:33, humidity bottomed out at 45% at 16:58, wind was 0 to 7mph northerly to north-northwesterly, pressure has been pretty constant around 1023.4hPa, there was 0.2mm of rain in the early hours and cloud cover went from 8/8 in the morning to 0/8 in the afternoon and evening.
  20. Yesterday's temperature topped out at 25.2⁰C and, although today started off a wee bit overcast, it soon cleared with wall to wall blue and decent warmth. Maximum temperature today was 24.4⁰C at 15:02 up from a minimum of 12.1⁰C at 02:54, humidity bottomed out at 67% at 15:07, wind was 0 to 6mph southeasterly, pressure reduced from 1030.4hPa at midnight to 1024.6hPa now, there was no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover for most of the day was 0/8.
  21. Some nice, big, well broken clouds are about but plenty of blue sky and sunshine as well, and we must be right under the high pressure here as there's absolutely not a breath of wind. Nice and warm too. Heading up to Eaglesham for a bit of lunch now and then a wander round some gardens somewhere, apparently. Temperature now up to 23.6⁰C from a minimum of 10.7⁰C at 05:44, humidity is 71%, wind is zero, pressure is 1031.6hPa steady, there’s been 0.2mm of rain overnight and cloud cover is 4/8.
  22. Sky cleared by teatime sufficiently for me to partake of a couple of beers on the patio in the company of a plethora of flying insects. The temperature got up to 23.8⁰C at 15:05 and pressure has now risen to 1031.0hPa and still rising.
  23. Summer's back and so am I, you lucky Kilties. Arran in August was just as I remembered it; cold and wet. Temperature currently maximum for the day at 22.2⁰C up from a minimum of 12.9⁰C at 06:21, humidity is 72%, wind is non-existent, pressure is 1029.7hPa steady, there’s been no rain today and 1.6mm in the last 24 hours, cloud cover is 7/8 with fleeting bursts of sunshine.
  24. I’ve noticed that Autumn has recently entered the consciousness of some of our flock and not always in a good way. My guess is that lots of people, especially in Scotland, see Summer and Winter as proper seasons while Spring and Autumn are merely periods of transition, one positive, the other negative. I don’t see it that way. Spring is the season of reintroduced colour like bluebells and bright green leaves, fresh smells and birdsong, while Autumn heralds the return of storms, percussive horizontal rain and a myriad of yellows, reds, ochres and browns, at first overhead and then, for maybe a couple of days before the rain turns them into a squidgy mess, piles of crisp leaves that dogs, children and the village idiot pile into or kick up and down woodland paths. I loved this Summer for its return to the qualities of Summers of old, but I quite like the idea that a new season is just around the corner. It’s a reassurance that time goes on. The maximum temperature today was 18.9⁰C at 16:48 up from a minimum of 12.9⁰C at midnight, maximum relative humidity was 93% at 00:22 falling to a minimum of 69% at 16:08, wind has varied between 0 and 10mph westerly to west-northwesterly, pressure fell from a maximum of 1016.9hPa at midnight to 1014.6hPa at 05:38 rising again to 1016.8hPa now, there’s been 1.2mm of rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover has varied between 4/8 and 8/8 throughout the day. I see that Catch My Dragon is safely reinstalled in Canada and I wish that lovely country the very best of luck going forward. Conditions are already improving here, for which we all rejoice, and it will be lovely to welcome CMD and family back to this country in, say, twenty or thirty years by which time I will be happily long dead. @CatchMyDrift, only kidding, ya bluddy jinx.
