  1. The temperature got up to 15.9⁰C at 12:53 then started falling steadily to the 13.4⁰C that it is now, humidity got down to 82% at 12:54, the wind stayed light all afternoon, pressure has fallen to 1013.5hPa and still falling slowly, my idiot weather station says no rain fell today, but it did, I saw it, and it remained dull and overcast throughout. Sporran has a new toggle. Whoohoo.
  2. It could simply be that the cloud cover has been thicker periodically over the last week, but I’d swear that the quality of daylight has changed to a colder looking light. I’m not complaining, I quite like the new effect, but it does definitely seem different. Today looks like a cold, wet, windy sort of day. The temperature is 13.5⁰C up from a minimum of 11.4⁰C at 00:41, humidity is 90%, wind varying from 2 to 18mph westerly, pressure is 1015.1hPa rising slowly, very light drizzle has just started in what has been a dry day until now, and there’s been 3.4mm of rain in the last 24 hours, thick 8/8 cloud cover means it’s dull. Deep dull. Right, I’m off to Glasgow for lunch and to get my sporran fixed for the wedding.
  3. Well today is the Autumn Equinox, so I’m told, and the translation from the Latin appears to be ‘equally pish with regards to temperature and sunshine’, because there’s precious little of either. Temperature is 15.8⁰C up from a minimum of 13.4⁰C at 04:53, humidity is 82%, wind 2 to 15mph southerly, pressure is 1019.4hPa falling slowly, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours, although that feels very likely to change soon, and cloud cover is a deep and thick and even 8/8. The leaves are beginning to turn just a bit yellow – here we go folks…
  4. The striptease of clouds in the sky got right down to the scantiest of coverings in the early afternoon, but no further. By mid afternoon everything up to and including the Aran sweater had gone back on. The temperature stopped dead on 16.2⁰C at 12:51 and the wind had only the briefest visit to 12mph before collapsing in a heap. The rain didn’t even bother to turn up. If this wasn’t bin day it would have been a write-off.
  5. I’ve always recognised the 21st of September as the Autumn Equinox. Until now. Because it isn’t. Or not here. According to the BBC Weather App for my village, sunrise this morning was at 07:00 (06:00 GMT) and sunset will be at 19:20 (18:20 GMT), which means that the noxes are not equi. That doesn’t happen until the 25th of September when sunrise will be at 07:08 and sunset will be at 19:10. (That’s as close as it gets.) So why, oh why, is there an offset from the expected result? I guess that the ten-minute slide is due to the longitudinal westerly component from Greenwich to here, and I further hypothesise that the four-day delay is due to the fifty-five and a bit degrees of latitude and a diminishing horizon, but I’m not at all convinced that I’m right. Anyone know how and why I must wait four days for my village Equinox?
  6. Yesterday at lunchtime I thought that the clouds were clearing away. They weren’t. Quite the opposite. So, by mid-afternoon, I was standing in a field counting sheeps and wondering whether I would get back to the house without getting soaked. (I did.) Today seems, at the moment, to be going the other way; steadfastly overcast this morning but giving a hint now of becoming brighter. Still cold though. Temperature just reached 16.1⁰C up from 8.9⁰C at 05:56, humidity is 77%, wind 3 to 9mph, pressure 1027.4hPa falling slowly, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 7/8. (The black sheep is the remaining one of the two original animals. She's having nothing to do with the newbies. My daughter says it's even more like me than before. I don't know what she means.)
  7. Right, so, a wee bit of a mistake last night; the wind didn’t get up to 11mph, that was my finger on the whirly thing trying to get the cobweb unstuck. There wuznae nae wind at a’. Delighted for those of you in the Northeast enjoying a clear morning, sods, but here it’s largely overcast and struggling to build any sort of warmth. Temperature is 16.8⁰C up from a minimum of 5.9⁰C at 01:34, humidity is 78%, wind is 1 to 3mph southwesterly, pressure is 1022.8hPa steady, there’s been 0.2mm of rain today and cloud cover is 5/8 and clearing now. Impressive effort @snowidea and some great photos.
  8. The temperature eventually got up to 17.0⁰C at 16:16 and the wind got up too, hitting 11mph at 17:32. Luckily no more rain fell so it turned out quite a usable afternoon. The apples are ready. Just in time for the pork.
  9. I think that I can safely say that autumn has arrived. It’s wet and cool and the birdsong has stopped. The inside temperature has dropped below 18⁰C for the first time in months. Am I downhearted? Not at all. It’s been a great spring and summer and I have a feeling that autumn and winter are going to be proper seasonal affairs too. Now where’s my waterproof? Temperature is up to 13.3⁰C up from a minimum of 12.0⁰C at 10:47, humidity is 90%, there’s no wind registering, pressure is 1012.4hPa rising slowly, there’s been 4.4mm of rain since midnight and 6.2mm in the last 24 hours, cloud cover is 7/8.
  10. It turned out to be a nice day, warm enough with a maximum temperature of 19.8⁰C at 16:08, no wind throughout and the rain only starting again in the last half an hour taking the daily total up to 1.0mm, which all meant that I completed my tasks and should have an eventful day on Monday. Pigs seemed happy enough, considering. VID-20210918-WA0002.mp4
  11. The weather forecast for yesterday said that it would start raining here at 2pm and it started raining at exactly 2pm. Well done BBC. For once. Typically for the last three days the rain was just a constant drizzle but by midnight 4.8mm of drizzle had fallen. Today the temperature is now at 16.7⁰C up from a minimum of 10.4⁰C at 04:53, humidity is 80%, there’s no wind at all, (maybe the spider is back,) pressure is 1012.6hPa steady, there’s been 0.2mm of rain since midnight and cloud cover is a marbled 6/8. Meanwhile, up at the farm, the pigs that were being fattened for slaughter in time for Christmas have already gained the necessary weight so I need to arrange for them to be dispatched and butchered. While I’m at it I also need to arrange for the delivery of the new sheeps and see if I can get another couple of pigs. And a much bigger freezer.
  12. Sounds to me like your dad is living in a prime example of High Presbyterian Architecture; the home that hurts. Does it have the original bed of nails and a lava lavy? We’re lunching locally today because the forecast is for rain in the early afternoon, so a wee dander doon tae ra deli is the order of the day. Lentil soup, bacon rolls and a big pot of tea from me thanks. The temperature is up to 16.6⁰C from a minimum of 14.2⁰C at 06:33, humidity is 80%, wind is 3 to 12mph southerly, pressure is 1007.8hPa steady, there’s been no rain since midnight and cloud cover is a pretty thick 8/8.
  13. Never mind the weather station, is that genuine, original woodchip wallpaper?! If so, what a find. If Hysteric Scotland find out, your dad's house will get listed. Today turned out to be a carbon copy of yesterday; sunny or sunny spells through to 2pm, clouded over by 3pm, light drizzle from 4pm to 6pm and then overcast. In the meantime the temperature got up to 17.7⁰C by 14:46 and another 2mm of rain fell in the afternoon.
  14. Went for lunch in Troon yesterday. When we went in it was a beautiful, sunny summer day but when we came out it was damp and dark autumn. Going to Stra'ven for lunch today and expect yesterday's experience will be repeated exactly. Temperature is currently 15.8⁰C up from a minimum of 7.3⁰C at 05:59, humidity is 75%, wind is 0 to 2mph southwesterly, pressure is 1014.6hPa steady, there’s been 0.4mm of rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 4/8 with lots a big beefy ones all around. Watch out lads and lassies, the Heidy’s coming.
  15. This morning dawned as crisp and clear as yesterday did dreich and murky, however it’s not to last apparently so I’m off to the beach right blooming now. The temperature has risen to 16.8⁰C from a minimum of 8.4⁰C at 06:52, humidity is 80%, there’s no wind at all, pressure is 1014.0hPa rising slowly, there’s been no rain today and cloud cover is a very high and hazy 2/8.
  16. Despite it remaining overcast all day and looking at times as if a downpour was imminent, there wasn’t any further rainfall and the temperature managed to achieve 17.4⁰C at 14:02. Looking back at the first two weeks in September, we had a high temperature at 28.2⁰C, the highest gust of wind was only 10mph, pressure got up to 1035.1hPa and only 15.6mm of rain fell during the entire period. I would normally take that as a good two weeks in any Scottish summer, never mind in autumn. Meanwhile, I appear to have ascended the well lubed pole of achievement here to attain membership of the bare bum brigade; in fact, not only membership but I am an “Enthusiast”. I feel that I have arrived where I belong. @CatchMyDrift, I truly hope for everyone's sake that your Dad won't have to wait too long.
  17. Right after you leave. It’s been wet overnight and earlier this morning but now drying out while remaining overcast. Temperature is up to 15.8⁰C up from a minimum of 12.8⁰C at 06:42, humidity is 85%, wind is 1 to 4mph southeasterly, pressure is 1013.6hPa steady, there’s been 3.2mm of rain since midnight and 3.8mm in the last 24 hours, cloud cover is 8/8.
  18. The clouds closed in again just after lunchtime and by mid afternoon it looked as if it could rain at any moment, although it took until 8pm for the rain to start with 0.6mm in half an hour. The temperature didn’t improve either and went into a steady decline towards 13.4⁰C as it is now. Autumn feels upon us.
  19. Congratulations on your achievement of such a high position. I see you’ve been awarded the paper party hat in recognition of your new office, which is at least relatively representative of your status. I have been given an exploding ice cream cone, which apparently signifies that I am “Accomplished”. How that works I have no idea, but it clearly shows the system is administered by a blithering idiot. Elsewhere in the rankings a sheriff’s star presumably denotes a control freak, leaves are awarded to the naturist section and the gods alone know who on Earth are awarded the badge of the bent over fat bottomed girl with her knickers at her knees. Presumably there is a masochist group amongst us, which I guess mostly hang about in the MAD thread. Meanwhile, a clearing sky to the east provided us with a sunny morning and a maximum temperature of 16.2⁰C at 11:45 up from a minimum of 8.2⁰C at 04:04, humidity is 71%, wind is 1 to 8mph easterly, pressure is currently 1016.6hPa falling slowly, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 6/8.
  20. The temperature got down to 6.0⁰C at 02:33 but has recovered to the dizzy heights of 13.2⁰C now, humidity is 85%, there’s no wind at all, pressure is 1019.4hPa rising slowly, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is a fairly light 8/8.
  21. Cloud cleared away steadily between lunch and teatime with only a stubborn ribbon along the western horizon remaining throughout the day, and so the temperature got up to 17.2⁰C at 14:52 and no further rain fell.
  22. Shame on you @mardatha for such a knee-jerk reaction. Your proposal doesn’t have a leg to stand on. (And neither does @CatchMyDrift's dad, so how would that work?) Besides, best of luck trying to raise the money in the Scotty thread… Don’t tell anyone, but I’m only just out of bed, so I have no idea what the weather has been like so far today. However, the maximum temperature was 16.2⁰C at 00:05 then down to 13.8⁰C at 07:09 and now back up to 15.3⁰C, humidity is 86%, wind is 1 to 9mph westerly, pressure is 1011.7hPa rising slowly, there’s been 2.4mm of rain overnight although it’s perfectly dry now and cloud cover is 8/8 leaving the day feeling a tad dull.
