Just watched the Meto 10 day trend. Talk about a reality check.
Completely watered down version of posts on the MAD thread.
As usual the meto use words ‘chance’ potential’ uncertainty’ blah blah blah
One wonders why they even bother if everyday after day 4 is a ‘chance’ no matter what the weather.
Roll on spring.

MAD thread really going now. It’s gone from day 10 to day 7 now.
Meanwhile Majorca Spain receives up to 10cm of snow at low levels and a foot of snow in mountains.
Rare red alert issued as Majorca hit by snow
WWW.INDEPENDENT.CO.UKLocals are advised to stay indoors as storm Juliette causes fierce snow storms and freezing temperatures- 4

So Storm Frank... you want to tell the people flooded out of large parts of Ballater, that it wasn't a real storm? Just a wet and windy day that obliterated from existence a couple of hundred yards of the A93, left a bridge at Braemar unstable so that the only way in and out was over the 2200ft Cairnwell Pass which had to be kept open 24/7 through January and February? That the arches on the A90 Bridge of Dee went full bore for the first time in 488 years was just a damp winters day?
Just a wee breeze that Frank, a breeze that ripped a roof of a chairlift drive at Glencoe ski area with such force it smashed a hole in a building further up the mountain and knocked a ski lift tower out of alignment before disintegrating, maybe tell the owner of the car overturned in the carpark at 1200ft at Glencoe that Storm Frank wasn't actually real wind?
Some serious pish gets posted in this thread.Oh give over.
The 90s/ early 00s had countless flooded out areas without scaremongering names.
you seem to have forgotten.
Kensington severe floods of 2007 and Surrey homes ambushed in 2008.
The named storms (low pressure systems) from the Atlantic compared to back in the day when it was just a low pressure system.
Would love to bring back the good ole days of a wet and windy day without naming of a low pressure system off the Atlantic into an alphabetical storm name. Whilst other parts of the world suffer hurricanes and cyclones. On 06/02/2023 at 00:59, skifreak said:So Storm Frank... you want to tell the people flooded out of large parts of Ballater, that it wasn't a real storm? But no different to what used to be an ordinary winter storm.
Absolutely. I remember the days when a wet and windy day was just that… a wet a windy day.
Now, due to social media and Hype, a low pressure system is given a name to label as a storm. Imagine the folk in the world that actually get proper storms, hurricanes and typhoons.

No named storm during winter would be extraordinary!!
Remember the good old days when a named storm was a low pressure system.

A repeating theme that GFS keeps popping up just when we think 'it's all over' !
At least it keeps some modicum of interest going amidst all the doom and gloom
I wouldn't kick P14 out of bed for sure
Agree, definitely of note that the GFS coughs up an easterly over past few days.
If it were the other way round with westerlies into a modelled block, you could bet it was on it with a trend for other models to fall in suit. -
Feels like a time now, that waking up to cold frosty conditions. At least past 6 days now thick frost hasn’t lifted from shaded areas after a total white frost/ice from path to top of trees before sunrise.
Been absolutely beautiful and crisp. Of course living in the U.K. no snow present and right on cue milder weather although still cool (Ish) works it way in from the west with not a flake in sight.
At least no rain/wash out forecast in the reliable on already bogged ground.
Been lovely walking the dogs without muddy feet!!

Big clump of PPN just south of Maidstone, heading SE towards Tenterden, could be a bit of the white stuff in that lot.
Might be a Hail stone in there or a medium size wet snow flake

Just watched the latest video from Aidan at the Met office.
Bone dry for us with some frost and daytime temps between 4-6c rest of week before turning mild and dry later Sunday.
Saving grace we get a break from the soaking rains for the next 7 days at least
-
Heavy wet snow here. Making everything even more bogged and wet

Hail, rain passed through making everything soaked again.
Once these residual showers finish from NW hopefully will get a rain free night and day tomorrow
-
Light rain shower just passed here.
This isn’t no cold snap, bog standard winter January in miserable wet Britain.

A bit meh for the Thames Valley!
If and a big if, ppn with Snow does materialise come overnight Sunday into Monday my year’s following models in these situations majority of the time shifts way South.
Paris has been buried in these situations when London stays cold and dry and yet had a snowy forecast pre 60hrs
For example: Chris Fawkes on BBC going for snow moving across midlands or could be dry with snow showers affecting coasts only with no low.

Such a wet day in N Surrey poorly forecast by BBC !
And us, the public pay for the atrocious BBC weather forecasts through another outrageous money grab that is the TV license. They can’t even get their apps correct in 2023.

Disgusting wet miserable day here today. Dog walk is an obstacle of avoiding wet drenched ground and full on pond puddles. Absolutely nothing to suggest any of the white stuff in the reliable.
Thank god I’m off to family for 2 weeks in Montreal end of the month where that have proper seasons. -
Torrential rain for hours here and still a balmy 12c
Welcome to a British winter.
-
A very very slow thaw here. First time temps have gone past freezing. Currently +3c

Warning issued for us for ice on Sunday. Main snow risk is further north.
A definite transient snow (at least for north of the dreaded M4) though southern eastern areas may see some. Albeit a quick one for us all before the borefest mild sweeps in
-
Haven’t seen the car dash nor wall thermometer tick over -1c past 4 days now. Bright blue sunny skies and still -1.5c at 1pm.
Beautiful, wish winter days were like this always. Million times better than Atlantic crud.
Who’s up for round 2 Sunday? Especially north of m25, yes will be a quick transition to mild but better than nothing on this Atlantic island.

It feels less cold today with a slight thaw and sound of dripping, is spring around the corner? Love the snow but miss the sunshine.
It’s one snow event. Probably an age before we get another one. It’s winter, it’s suppose to be cold. Spring is 3.5 months away, Christmas hasn’t happened.
A nice cold and dry week ahead before the milder temps return for the weekend.

The warning covers from 6pm to 9am and you've shown a chart for a one hour period. The warning also is quite clear in showing low chance of medium impacts.....
I screened shot the most with snow. It clears from Kent and then is clear until 9am across the entire region and it’s absolutely no where near any other counties.
Like I say, confusing to the public looking at warning area with only ppn over Kent the entire time!!!

Expecting a mainly cloudy day for the whole region tomorrow, many areas seeing a few light flurries even if they miss out on the main action
Hi Tim,
That would be nice but I’ve seen no TV/ online forecasts confirming that. Just dry and cloudy away from more organised ppn (if) happens. Hope you’re right

Not expecting anything substantial here in Bedfordshire next week in terms of snowfall. Maybe a few wet flakes if moisture is present with cold uppers.
ECM had the MAD thread praising last night because it showed cold, but now it’s showing a bog standard chill spell soon erased to the Atlantic it’s now wrong apparently
