  1. Weather-history Winter 20-21 doing quite well in regards to winter index, beating other more notable winters 10-11 and 17-18. It was mostly cold that winter, but nothing severe.. never dipped below -5C if I'm not mistaken. Meanwhile Winter 23-24, a record breaking mild winter had pretty low mins at the start of December and mid January around -6 to -8C. A very strange winter indeed.
  2. Derecho Yes pretty accurate so far, though I doubt May, June, July, October CETs would ever occur, in our lifetimes at least.
  3. Hmm interesting update, something colder afoot in March? I guess after an exceptionally mild February, it's way more likely March will come cooler, though due to the poor performance of these long range updates I'm not yet convinced. Could easily swing to mild, which let's be honest is almost certain lol. Would be comical if March came in colder than all three winter months, as seen in 2013.
  4. Expecting a cooler, drier March compared to February.. however I wouldn't be surprised if it turned quite mild due to SE winds. Going for 7.2C and 72mm. Thanks
  5. SunnyG Guess I'm the minority here, since I actually enjoy darker evenings. Something so comforting and peaceful about it, though the leccy bill says otherwise which ig is the only downside.
  6. Sherry Lol really? That's like saying who wants hot weather in summer.. Winter is meant to be cold, not freakishly mild like the last few weeks. I hope 2024/25 delivers, been way too long since we've gotten a classic. Can finally pass this wretched winter aside, and look for drier weather in Spring.
  7. baddie 2016? Quite a chilly March-April occurred after that horrible winter. Some even saw snow late April
  8. raz.org.rain Anything dry will do. Absolutely sick of this persistent wet weather.
  9. SunnyG I get where you come from, for me any summer that's predominately cool is a good summer. Can't stand the heat.
  10. AderynCoch Couldn't have said it any better. Definitely the worst winter month I've ever experienced, next to December 2015. I know it isn't ideal but I hope we see a cold, frosty and sunny March-April to compensate for the absolute dismal conditions we've been facing. This winter has been beyond depressing I've sort of lost hope for the upcoming one.
  11. Jason M Possibly, or it could all be an illusion and we see the warmest March on record. Jokes aside it can still get quite cold at the end of March into April.. think March 2013/Apr 2021. Even late April 2016 had a pretty potent cold spell with snow showers. Definitely nothing like what we could get in January but cold, yes.
  12. Looks like quite the reversal if these charts are anything to go by
  13. Derecho It's just hard to fathom how this month could have a similar CET to March 2012 which saw 8.4C. The last few February's have been exceptionally mild, but this takes it up a notch.
  14. I'll go out on a whim and say March and April will be cooler than February, quite an interesting statistical quirk. Then we'll see a warm, dry May to end it off. March: CET 5.5-6.0C Cold first half, dry mild second half. April: CET 7.5-8.0C Mild days, chilly nights. Lots of sunshine. May: CET 13.0C-13.5C Dry and warm for the most part, possibly record breaking warm temperatures at times. Would make an interesting spring!
  15. Shillitocettwo Sounds like a nightmare lol. Even with CC those CET's are virtually impossible. Imagine an 18C May though, sounds bizarre.
  16. feb1991blizzard Pretty extreme that, and a lot more notable than the failed excuse of a reversal we saw a few days back. Hoping to see more upgrades
  17. A rather extreme case this year.. say we get an 8C February, a warm March could still come under it. I'd say the opposite happened in 2013 when February was already cold but March trumped it.
  18. Roger J Smith If we get an April similar to 2012/2016/2021 then it could happen this year, the first this century. Obviously depends where February ends up, current projections look to be 8C+ so a high likelihood March will come under and April a low chance but still possible. If we do get an 8C February then it'd be warmer than March 2022 which is quite ridiculous, and close to March 2012 CET.
  19. Too early to predict, but what I can say is March could well be cooler than the February. The last time this happened was 2013.
  20. RJBingham Agree, only 1C above average. In other words, nice and cool.. much cooler than the mild spell we've been having
  21. raz.org.rain Really? Looks quite average going into March. Definitely no signs of mild, it's gotta break at some point.
  22. This February is up there with one of the worst, if not THE worst I've ever experienced. Funny, as these were the charts a month prior.. complete opposite. For a time, it actually looked like it would be the coldest February since 2010.. of course what we're getting is one of the mildest on record. Reminds me of July 2023 which was supposed to be warm given the forecasts, but ended up being the complete opposite. Hilarious.
  23. raz.org.rain literally anything can happen.. cold, warmth or nothing like we've seen with the past few SSWs. One thing we can agree with, is that zonal winds will be very low into March so be prepared for some wild weather!
  24. 2023: 5/10 First half was alright, didn't get any snowfall but was quite cold at times. Second half was a bore fest. 2022: 6/10 Sunny for the most part, the cold spell at the end was great. Flurries and frosts. 2021: 3/10 Gloomy and repetitive. The warmth at the end was interesting however. 2020: 6/10 Sunny, anticyclonic for the most part 2019: 5/10 Quite chilly at times, with a few flurries in the first half. 2018: 9/10 Excellent month, featuring the BFTE and it's little brother. 2017: 1/10 The literal opposite of 2018 2016: 7/10 Great snowfall on the 4th, reaching 10cm in some parts. Heaviest snowfall ever since. 2015: 6/10 Anticyclonic and cool. Decent month 2014: 4/10 Can't remember much. 2013: 10/10 The bees knees of March's. What a spectacular month that was. 2012: 2/10 The literal opposite of 2013 2011: 4/10 Can't remember much 2010: 7/10 Cold spell at the start of the month, can't recall much afterwards. Don't care for warmth in March, for me it's all about cold.. like for some, how September is for warmth. Some of the best March spells I can remember are in 2010, 2013, 2016, 2018 and the final days of March 2022 where we saw a late snowfall.
  25. Cheshire Freeze Wouldn't be surprised if March's CET came in below February. I mean.. it wouldn't be a tall order considering we're experiencing an exceptionally mild month.
