  1. The mean is descending.. overall a much better run from the 6z, and a trend I'd like to see continue.
  2. Mildest December since 2015 on the cards now, possibly breaching the 7.0C mark. It's just been continuously mild since the 5th. Dire, dire month it has to be said.
  3. Those are incredible figures, never knew it got that cold in the NW. -15C Max at Thelwall, -24C min at Wilmslow.. no words can describe how impressive those figures are. Makes Jan/Dec 2010 look mild in comparison. I do wonder if we'll see anything like that in the future, our closest call is probably 7th Jan 2010.
  4. This is quite something. Has to be the most in-depth competition I've seen on this forum. Nice one @CryoraptorA303
  5. This really is the worst kind of weather we can get in Winter. 12C, mild dross in the run up to Christmas.. it's actually depressing. I'm not convinced with the mod output that we'll get a cold final week of December, looks quite messy with the euro high not shifting. If we do get anything similar to the final days of 2020 I'll be more than happy, but of course that's incredibly rare. December looks to be a lot of wasted potential.. again. After a great start, it did a 2019 and reverted back to it's mundane setting. Deep cold is best around this time of year but it looks unlikely we'll see anything of note, hope I'm wrong. I just hope we can get at least one cold spell in January.
  6. That's a decent mean on the 6z for Christmas Day.. A very cold Christmas actually for some parts, for once please verify
  7. That event was basically their version of Winter 46/47.. unprecedented snowfall and IIRC Madrid went into minus double digits which is practically unheard of there. I remember feeling so salty at the time when a large swathe of Spain got record breaking snowfall whilst we got rain. We need a snow event like that in this country, one for the history books.
  8. I'll take anything over a Bartlett in Winter.. the thought of Dec 2015 happening again makes me cringe. December can be a stinker, but if Jan/Feb continue with the theme I'll probably need to book a holiday up north.
  9. Also broke Europe's all time December temp record. Incredible considering it's basically winter down there.
  10. In the last 10 years.. 29th Jan 2015 4th March 2016 28th Feb 2018 30th Jan 2019 28th Dec 2020 20th Jan 2021 23rd Jan 2021 28th Nov 2021 ..since then we've largely missed out on snow events, including the ones in Dec 2022, March 2023 and just yesterday. All these dates delivered at least a few centimetres of snow, some had blizzard conditions which delivered bouts of snow in a few hrs (4/3/16,30/01/19,20/01/21). So yeah, not a lot to account in the last decade.
  11. Rarely does the snow settle, I'm guessing this is as the ground is rock solid after being frozen for over a week.
  12. This has turned out to be a significant snow event for parts of our region. Cumbria have done excellent after such a dismal affair over the past few years. Currently snowing quite heavily as I speak, and sticking
  13. Oxford Airport at -3C 2pm. Bournemouth Airport -2C 2pm. Incredible depths of cold down south, many people will certainly get an ice day.
  14. Looks like Cumbria is getting the whole lot! Continuous heavy snow till early morning, literally all I ask for. Meanwhile, down here it's all a marginal mess as always. Hoping the met updates are wrong and we see a terrific snow event for our parts.
  15. Conveniently on the first day of meteorological winter. Today will certainly be another one.
  16. Temp has increased far too quick for my liking, would've been great if we had freezing fog like most of the midlands. Quite likely they'll see their first ice day of the season.
  17. Lucky you lot in the far north west, that could easily deliver a couple inches.
  18. Very odd, that 970mb low pretty much fizzles out. A good sign imo.
  19. Up there with one of the best Dec 1st I've experienced. Certainly the best since 2010. Temperature hovering around 2-3C, frosty with it being sunny all day. Perfect
  20. ECM, GFS and ICON all have a scandi high setup sometime in the 2nd week of December. Yes it's 10 days away but still quite interesting they're all showing this, especially w/ support from EC46. Remember, GFS and ECM have been playing around with this pattern quite often. Maybe, just maybe this breakdown will be as brief as some cold snaps have been over the past few years. One can hope. Look at those charts, so much potential!
  21. Interestingly, the final CET came in the same as the CET consensus. Think this happened last December.
  22. Great start to the winter. Blue skies, -5C and a thick frost.. shame it'll be over soon. I recall Winter 2019/20 starting in a similar fashion, hopefully we don't see a winter akin to that.
  23. GFS 18z seems to be a more feasible outcome than what we saw in yesterday's 12Z. I'd love to see other models get on board though.
