  1. I think that "spot" will be gone by tomorrow. Hopefully that's it then for a few (well, 6!) days so we hit 100 spotless days this year. Wouldn't it be great if next year the spots all but go and we have a decent winter
  2. Shrewsbury snow shield broken for first time since March 2013!!! yay, Telford has lots more but this is turning out to be great for us in the west for a change
  3. BBC weather is showing an upgrade for us here in Shrewsbury, hmmm. Snow from early hours & all over weekend?! Sunday was previously rain/sleet. I'll eat my hat if TF4 in Telford doesn't get it!!!
  4. Haha! I drove up there in 2005 I think it was. I jus needed a snow fix!! Good luck
  5. I suppose that depends on what you call "deep". I lived there from 2002-2013, IIRC 2006 we had some good dumpings, 2009 & 2010 were OK. Put it this way, much better than snowless Shrewsbury!!! I'll be happy with ANYTHING right now as I've not seen lying snow for 5 years..... ps, different parts of Telford get it too, we sued to get a good dumping (top of hill near Horsehay) while on the other side of town in Muxton there was a dusting!! Micro climate at paly......
  6. Although Space Weather are claiming a 7 day stretch for some reason!
  7. I did notice that. I do sometimes wonder if Space weather do this on purpose!! That one spot seemed to take an age to disappear, in fact on the last day I couldn't see a thing! Then the next image update shows a huge region....hmmmmm
  8. Looks like the current stretch will end tomorrow. Does look like a deep minimum will be upon us soon though. I'm not expecting much change this winter but next winter (2018/2019) could well be cold if the theory holds out. Will recent warming override that though? Only time will tell..........
  9. Hmm. We've had plenty of frost so much better than the previous wash out. Snow has been non existent for years though. I'd say it's only irritating if you believe silly long range "forecasts" or model charts 10 days out.
  10. Now I feel old!! Remember travelling up to the Long Mynd here in shropshire and got a great view
  11. Light snow falling in Shrewsbury.
  12. Cold in the UK the past few years is like chasing a rainbow. Everyone goes into meltdown because models are showing epic cold 10 days out! Trouble is that cold seems to stay 10 days out. Telford will see some wet snow (it always gets it, the only thing I miss about the place!) we will see some rain and frost me thinks. Hoping solar minimum see's a 2010 style winter (or better still an '82!) in the coming years.
  13. This local paper piece is quite good :- http://www.shropshirestar.com/news/2017/01/10/shropshire-weather-snow-is-on-the-way-but-things-could-be-worse/ I remember that winter well as we literally had just had central heating installed as the snow started! I often searched for pictures and accounts of that winter but nothing seems to come up, why is such a sever winter "forgotten" when the likes of 1963 & 1947 are cemented in history?
  14. I remember the tiny dot on the 3rd, that was my point earlier in the thread. A tiny (& it was TINY!) dot observed for a few hours does not really mean that day should not be classed as spotless IMO. Anyway, we are splitting hairs, it's spotless again Although not for much longer by the looks of it......
  15. Spaceweather uses SDO?? In any case, that wasn't my point when I said silly. IMO it is silly to count a single pixel from an SDO image as a sunspot when it can't possibly be visible from earth via a telescope, or can it? It would surely take super human eyes to see that?! Anyway, whatever count you use it's spotless again today. I'm going for 50% spotless in 2017
  16. I find it hard to believe that a telescope used over 150 years ago would enable the naked eye to see some of the spots that "appear" on Spaceweather website! Even full screen zoomed in they are barely visible, I thought that image came from SDO so earths atmosphere eliminated also??
  17. Yeah I noticed that. I've also noticed over the past few weeks some day's have not updated....
  18. Indeed. Interesting few years ahead I hope
  19. http://www.landscheidt.info/?q=node/50 It tells you on that page. One method is the Layman's count. Space weather counts every singe spec (silly IMO but there you go)
