    There is often a term used 'sleety rain', which is rain which has an icy consistency to it. Sleet is half melted snow in my mind, whilst rain and snow is just that.. rainsnow.

    Yes Hywel, I imagine so.. here in Heswall there won't be any marginality either so it should start, and finish as snow. 102m asl isn't much but it often makes a difference compared to more northern parts of the peninsula. Interesting times!

    Much of Northeast Wales is seeing snow, so I'm not sure it will necessarily be rain for all.. it might be near the coast though.

    If your dewpoint is below 0C then it'll be snow, even with temperatures above 0C

    Ignore automated forecasts.. its clearly a wait and see what happens situation!

    We have -11C (or thereabouts) air over the region nearly 2 weeks ago... with clear skies and very little wind, the lowest temperature here was -3C. No snow that time true enough, but having said that, with the GFS showing maxes after the weekend of 4-6C here every day, it doesn't really warrant that type of minima. If we were in january though, I'd agree -7 or lower would be possible.
