  1. Having read a few posts the last few days in here, my conclusion is that no matter what the cold spell, how intense it is, and how much snow it has, some people will never be happy. The age old adage of "all good things must come to an end" comes to mind
  2. hmm looked again and it said -0.4C my records dont show -2C, think I have faulty station software grrrrrrr Thought it was strange as there is a howling easterly breeze here.. lol. That said Hawarden is down to -4C
  3. Severe frost ahead for all of the areas with snow on the ground. Already -2C here, so it looks like we will 'achieve' a -7C to -9C towards dawn. The cloud has been put back to around 4-5am now, so it'll be clear until then
  4. Clouds clearing here in time for the evening, clear sky to the south.. a very very cold night ahead!
  5. I agree re: the flooding, the ground under snow is generally insulated, and is not frozen as our temperatures have not been low enough for that to occur. The outlook is more the same, and those keeping snow cover now will 'benefit' from the ground being kept unfrozen, therefore with a relatively slow thaw, flooding shouldn't occur as it should slowly percolate into the ground
  6. The snow really keeping its composure here.. 1.8C with no melt.. but the dewpoint is only 77% so it make sense. The snow itself is still pure powder.
  7. It's actually going to be pretty cloudy. Here today it's 1.2C but no thaw occuring
  8. I'd rather it go milder now to be honest.. prolonged cold I find really irritating. I can never get fed up of Atlantic storms, but somehow snow and ice and frigid temperatures lose their appeal after a few days.
  9. anyone got clear skies? Here they are clear and you can imagine what's happening!
  10. Not sure, afterall in 2010 in that snow cover period, it dropped 7C in 3 hours.. so it's obviously possible.. the only difference with last time was the the daytime maximums were much lower than now.. but yes -5C to -6C almost certain... the skies are starting to clear here now. Also with snow cover a breeze won't really prevent such lows either!
  11. fairly thick snow here this morning, around 5cm, but much of the snow on paths and rooves underwent a thaw, although snow on the grass didn't really thaw. Tonight we could get seriously low temperatures here when the skies clear after midnigh, maybe as low as -12C, which would the an all time record here..
  12. Surprised to wake up to a thin covering of wet snow.. Only about 0.5cm but more than expected
  13. Eno felt it was more appropriate to forecast for Yorkshire than anywhere in NW England.
  14. wow the snow in the southeast is now trying to settle on gritted roads.. really heavy stuff!
  15. Martin you're right, every time the snow/sleet gets heavier, it seems to warm up, not cool down...
  16. Definitely has been a mix of sleet and snow.. some of the 'flakes' look like half melted ice pellets, so it really is marginal
  17. Temperature continues to rise.. 1.5C with a dewpoint of 1.2C.. its a wonder it's still snow!
  18. Yep thats's my experience too.. in fact its melting it rather fast.. if it continues in this vain, it'll be all gone overnight.
  19. this snow is only really settling on vegetation.. and the temperature is rising.. much of whats on the ground is being 'washed away'
