Country tracks forecast was rather disappointing - much more interesting reading the model thread - at least they mention the chance of a pasting in there
Popped out for an afternoon walk to enjoy the sunshine and blue skies, came home to find my warnngs had vanished. Keep telling the family to tie up the garden furniture then nothing much happens, they'll be accusing me of crying wolf next time
There is some very vey light precipitation out there at the moment, so light it is hard to tell if it is snowy or drizzly but although it's a balmy 5 deg with a 3.9 dewpoint, it feels v cold
Was that the heavy band that came north to south and surprised everyone? It was very heavy and reached me about rush hour, what fun, although it settled it didn't stick around for long if I remember right
Woke up to fast fat futile flakes, eased off to small and sleety, but just picked up again. Nice to watch but without the prospect of settling even a bit, and with the rain puddles on the ground it's also rather sad
After all the build up to the storm tonight we are now clutching at straws and the sight of just a few wet snowflakes will justify all the time and effort put in to forum watching this week
It's kind of weird that we are all here on the storm thread discussing the non existent storm - lol! Still hoping for surprise snowfall despite being in the zone of no weather. Probably means staying up too late and lamppost checks throughout the night. I know I really am setting myself up for disappointment but hey - that's what we do:)
Weather station software back up and running. My highest all time gust was 26.6 in November 2009, I have just registered 23.5 so hoping to break the record tonight. Gusts always slightly lower in my sheltered garden then in real life, Kenley just had 43mph. Pressure 993 and falling 2.3/hr. Looking crazy out there
Bugger - note to self - don't try and update your weather station software in the middle of an event. No readings - so eyewitness reports only for now - it's raining and quite windy
Since tonight's storm has downgraded in the last 24hrs to a bit breezy with lots of rain and the yellow warning no longer covers London, I'm not holding my breath for a biggy on Friday unless it is still there 24hrs before. Hatches have been battened here but maybe a bit prematurely - won't stop me avidly watching the forums tho
Welcome to the forum weathergeek:) I've been lurking here for a while trying to learn something and I know much more now than when I started but not enough to make a call on a forecast! Winter is my favorite time on here and it's good that we all have these storms to talk about when there is no snow on the horizon, I love the way things can change tho, and who knows what the rest of the winter will bring:)
My interpretation of the countrywise forecast and the latest MetO update is that things are going to be windy here but not really stormforce, perhaps a few big gusts but nothing spectacular or particularly memorable, which is a shame from my extreme weather loving perspective. Bit of a downgrade after all these forum reports getting my hopes up. All eyes to friday then...
Well in the absence of a snow watch thread I am now addicted to storm watching. Certainly an interesting week coming up and looks like a chance of stocking up on wood for next year if a few trees come down.
Days to hours calculation for the hard of maths....can never remember how many days the hours on the charts relate to so this might help someone else too
Am waiting for the squall line to hit here in south london, looks like it is due any minute - it's probably the most exciting weather we are going to get for a while
