  1. Yep, if a heavy shower or two is severe weather, I wonder what will happen if we need a proper warning? Will they add more colours? Orange used to excite me a little bit - not anymore
  2. Yep, I certainly felt Autumn stepping outside at 8.15 on Monday morning, crazy that, the change from July to August made such a difference, thoughts turning to open fires and jumpers now, can't believe it' supposed to be summer...and I'm in the SE and it's not really even that cold - its just a feeling
  3. Ever since I rated summer an 8 the weather's gone downhill, cooler, cloudy, in need of socks on today Maybe if I hadn't waxed on about how great it was, the sun would still be out
  4. It has been a great summer so far. The week leading up to Easter we had a patio laid, it took them a week and a half and it chucked it down. From Easter Saturday, I've sat on that patio vitually every night since. Now, the beginning of May wasn't great, but I seem to have forgiven it as the weather has been quite acceptable and just what I would now expect of summer every year. A few thunderstorms would be nice and it has beeen a bit grey this week, but I can't remember the last time I wore a coat...or a jumper at that. Brilliant:good:
  5. Very calm here too, not a whisper of a breeze. Had a shower earlier, think the rain is going to hit much later in the night so I expect to be woken by rain on the windows around 6am. A true calm before the storm...
  6. I flew back from Tenerife on Friday lunchtime, had 4 days of perfect sunny, warm weather, whilst here I heard it rained constantly. Apparently the storm hit Tenerife on friday afternoon and some flights were cancelled. Now back and enjoying the news reports of the snow in scotland. We nearly went there skiing but were concerned there might not have been enough snow! Am now enjoying watching a stormm here, so variety of weather for me this week, and the possibility of the easterly next weekend Weather heaven!
  7. Thanks for the replies, they certainly make me feel quite optimistic. I realise a lot can change in a week, and every weather report is a bit different. Are there any reliable sites for me to check the weather nearer the time? or can I get an update from the experts? The prospect of finding snow on my sunny holiday is particularly exciting so Mt Teide will be a must see.
  8. In order to cheer myself up after watching what could have been a blizzard fall as rain today and, as far as I can see, no snow of note on the horizon, I have booked 5 days in the south of tenerife next week. Never been there before or intended to go, but gotta take a chance (can't afford/fit in a skiing holiday sadly) From what I understand about the jet stream this winter, it is so far south that places that usually have a milder drier climate are suffering from more wet and cold than usual. Can anyone cheer me up some more and tell me if I can expect sunshine and warmth there next week or do I take my winter clothes? thanks
  9. Temp 3.3 and dew 1.5, had a heavy rain shower earlier and at this rate, rain is all I can expect It either snows lightly or rains hard - that,s not fair, it's the wrong way round
  10. Snowray, that is such a good summing up. It is amazing how we are so small an island on the edge of europe that we manage to have our own special weather. Time and again I have watched FI getting closer and closer, only to find it lives up to its name once it is within touching distance. I'm beginning to think that the models tease us with the possibilities just to keeep us watching...
  11. So, my very basic understanding reads, that as the high pressure moves away west, warmer air from the atlantic gets dragged round the top clockwise, and then as the low comes down, the warmer air gets dragged back anticlockwise from the west?
  12. Had the most fantastic ride back from work in a blizzard, watched the pavements suddenly turn white and could hardly see. What a treat Stopped now but if Yamkin says more is on the way - who am I to argue
  13. Well, it's a whinge from me too, temps 3 dewpoint 0.5, and rain on my fag break in Croydon tonight. Doesn't actually feel that cold out there so no excitement, bet someone a snowball fight this week, please don't say I've lost already
  14. It's Wednesday tomorrow and the last 2 significant snowfalls here have been in time for (or at) morning rush hour on a Wednesday. It's not scientific, but you never know - Met Office invent shows precipitation over me at 9am tomorrow <_<
  15. I also don't regard anything with temps over 1c as a particularly cold, just winter, or maybe as a smoker I'm now hardened to the cold
  16. Many people have been spoilt this year and now have high expectations. I don't feel spoilt as I only got 3-4cm here on 2 consecutive Wednesdays so good, but not exceptional (I still have high expectations though ). The trouble is that as a novice - reading the model threads I get excited, I look at the charts, and read the comments, and take note of those I trust most of course. Now, I have learned over the years not to get too optimistic, and this winter the big one is nearly always 3-6 days away, so my guess is that the models can't forecast the easterlies correctly. I like my snow to be disruptive, that's half the fun (the other half is sledging of course!) A similar evolution of the models happened here in Dec and January with the safe bet turning to just a bit of Kent every 3 days, but I have been pleasantly surprised in Feb/April before so remain hopeful...
  17. Yes, the model thread has gone very quiet, I usually try and get my fix of the 18Z before bed and no-one is commenting, the excitement seems to have fizzled somewhat - hope it is not an omen
  18. Today was very grim, rainy and grey, the cycle to work unpleasant, and the general mood of pedestrians and drivers alike was miserable, unhelpful, surly and impolite. None of the jovial grinning of the last few days as we all picked our way through the ice, having a quick word with each other as we passed on the way to work. What a difference a day makes.... My feeling is that this milder weather is here for a while, even if it gets a little colder, there wont be another snow event around here for the foreseeable future - but who knows past FI, so will be keeping an eye on the Model threads...
  19. 3cm here this morning, reading off my neighbours cleared bin, my patience and optimism have been rewarded. Started around 2.30 I believe, very fine flakes but a lot of them, struggling slightly to keep a covering on my pavement slabs at the back for some reason but enough here for a fun journey to work, so much better than a thaw... Bigger flakes now...
  20. that's just too slow to stay up and watch - am off to bed (with a 3am snowcheck programmed in)
  21. Yes that's sick, least I got a cm or two but can't believe the hours I've put in on the forums and radar for that pawltry amount! and still i'm here...
  22. The close up reveals I'm just inside the green bit for tomorrow bedtime perhaps
  23. v v light flakes hove now stopped, however much I stare at the light with my highly trained eye - nothing
  24. hmmm might get here in time for the rush hour then...........on friday........as rain <_<
