Summer 2021: Moans, Groans, Ramps and Banter

I've had to get my slippers out again tonight, might be a bit humid but cool and damp isn't much fun -

OK, fair enough, I nearly wrote 21c, then thought - no, it's summer I deserve more! I kind of agree at this time of year the sun is hot so provided it stays out and there isn't a freezing cold wind, 21 is acceptable for most outdoor activities, although I'd prefer more c if I wanted to spend time on the water based stuff I like. If I get wet I want to dry quickly without shivering. I was hoping to travel outside the London area for a week away somewhere - doesn't look like anywhere within sensible driving distance will escape the dull forecast. -
Summer 2021: Moans, Groans, Ramps and Banter

I've popped in here for a small tantrum. What a rubbish forecast. After a couple of weeks of this glorious weather, the misery of April and May seemed like a distant memory. The garden was finally catching up with summer, the veg started growing, out came the t-shirts, shorts and flip flops, and the wood burner had a clean, hoping not to use it again until October or November. Booked a week off work thinking how bad can it be - don't mind a showery day or two, but anything under about 23c is just not Summer. I've cancelled the holiday and restocked the wood pile for the cool evenings next week. Desperately looking for respite so I can get away for a few days - so gutted I missed the opportunity in early June. -
The weather on my morning run today was quite a contrast to the last couple of weeks - very humid and misty and quite atmospheric, then it started to rain, but warm rain so that's fine, however it's feeling rather cool here now - might have to put some socks on. Better get used to it if the forecast is anything to go by, and stock up with firewood again

I am loving this weather, next best thing to being abroad, I'd happily have this for the rest of the Summer. My careful curtain/window management system is stopping the house from getting unbearably hot, and the washing can dry on the line outside in an hour or so. It is such a shame that it is coming to an end just as I booked a week off work. We were intending to take the motorhome exploring and spend some time at the beach so I feel rather downhearted to have timed things so badly. It's not a complete bust yet but reliable warmth means less contingency planning!

We had a pleasant weekend in the sussex countryside but my goodness that NE wind blowing straight into the motohome door took the edge off things! Good cycling weather though and I'm so pleased with the way things are looking for the rest of June, I've booked a week off work for the 19th. Now, will today's storms hold off long enough for me to make my way to the Thames - maybe I'll get a live report from @Reefseeker later:)

Lots of heavy showers here today, we seem to be in the firing line - hardly a break in between, and although the sun is very warm there is a coldness in the air. I feel like I'm holding my breath waiting for the pattern change this week so we can get back to normal early summer life, and finally plan some outside stuff to look forward to.

Beautiful start to the day, I even went out for a run in short leggings and a t-shirt remarking that it almost felt like a Summer's morning with all the promise that brings. Now sitting inside with my hoodie and the lights on - got the washing on the line for about 15mins (bit optimistic looking at the incoming radar returns). Probably going to change my outdoor afternoon plans to inside ones.

Spring 2021: Moans, Groans, Ramps and Banter.

I'm a gardener, veg grower and paddleboarder - this weather is just getting me down. All the seedlings we germinated in the conservatory are doing OK in small pots but desperately need to be outside - the courgettes are fruiting due to stress in small pots, the marigolds are flowering before they have put on enough growth and the lemon tree went outside for two days then sulked. The cold NW winds have made paddle boarding a lot harder than it should be at this time of year - good for training but bad for social outings or planning longer trips. That said, after today's heavy showers, the patio is feeling almost summery compared with other evenings recently, and with the light winds, I've put a t-shirt on to kid myself it can only get better (wine helps!). -
We managed our first overnight motorhome trip this weekend. We were in Kent, and were just about in t-shirts on Saturday but by around 6.30pm, the prospect of cooking and eating outside was looking doubtful as the sun went down behind the trees, we retreated inside and put the heating on (don't get that joy with a tent!). Sunday was a day for wearing layers and woolly hats as we went for a walk up to the North Downs way - sometimes it was so bitterly cold out there. Today I'm sat at home looking out on to a gloriously sunny garden, but if I open the door, especially on the east facing front, it is stupidly cold. Such a waste of all that sunshine, all my seedlings are still tucked up in the conservatory, baking under the glass, but unlikely to see fresh air fro a while yet.

Days of 24c are fine as long as it doesn't drop below about 18c in the evening so we can all stay outside late. I'm getting bored of having the heating on and running out of firewood -

Heartbreaking forecast for Easter just as we were looking forward to the easing of the rules. Very frustrating. I have a decorator doing the outside next week - it could be either too hot or too cold to paint all in one week. -
Went out for a walk over what they now call Roundshaw Downs, where you get a good view north towards and over London, I could see these clouds clearly. The precipitation was pulling the cloud down, like you see from a rain cloud (is there a word for this?), then the other one to the West - possibly over Esher at the time, was looking just as menacing. I was comparing cloud to radar - looked impressive from where I was standing. Shame it wasn't overhead:)
