  1. Wind picked up here. Noise reminds me of 2-3 months ago. Thankfully not to the same intensity, but the sound still is a bit scary. Night all.
  2. Happy Birthday Luke. Have a great weekend. Sorry for my no-shows of late. Been exceptionally busy and not been online. Weather here is sunny, breezy and cloudy. Does feel chilly today. As much as I love it, I really don't want to see any of the white stuff for the sake of nature. So many beautiful blossoms out now. Have a fabulous day!
  3. Afternoon all. Currently sitting in Sainsbury's car park East Grinstead in a hail storm. That is all.
  4. Evening all! Erm, clear, starry skies here for a change. My friend's husband in Scotland has just taken some amazing shots of the Northern Lights. Edit: These were taken at Bonar Bridge. copyright Paul Raven copyright Paul Raven copyright Paul Raven copyright Paul Raven
  5. Hi all. Lovely sunshine here which is why I have been a bit absent. Enjoying playing with the dog in the garden and not sodden mud! Tamara I am so saddened to read this post. It is so disheartening when people have to make personal insult to people on forums. After all, a weather forum is one of the very few with topics which are very difficult to get right. Anyone who can't see that really isn't learning anything. I have joined forums with other subject matters as the main topics of conversation, and some people are just so damn nasty because they hide behind the screen. I am not a prolific poster here - been a member for many years - I am not very clever with weather, but I think it's awful that personalities get in the way rather than enrich the forum tapestry. I remember being part of a car forum on the internet some years ago. We all got on fine online and we arranged to meet for a Christmas meal. 40 people sat in virtual silence around tables in a pub til someone piped up "I think we need to have brought our computers with us so we can talk to each other". Unfortunately, that meeting also showed that people judged books and covers and the forum fell to pieces with snide arguments a few months afterwards. Sorry, I don't usually speak out much on here, but I just wish people would stop what is, in effect, cyber bullying. Keep writing Tamara and everyone else on this section. I have learnt a lot this Winter by all your posts - ramped or not - and to lose out on this valuable knowledge would be a travesty. As you were
  6. Just popped on to say wind picking up and noticed Charlwood and Gatwick both hitting top 5 hot spots today. Also my best wishes to Snow Lady for tomorrow. Be thinking of you.
  7. Really enjoyed the sun today. Spent quite a bit of time in the garden with a stir crazy dog, playing football with him. It is so nice not to come in caked in mud for a changed. OH and I contemplating how much of the sunroom can be put back in order tomorrow. Just smells so damp in there. Still we have been extraordinarily lucky. We had no power cuts here or appreciable damage all Winter. Most people in Surrey I have spoken to have at least had a power cut. Spent the morning just cleaning and washing up but spent a lovely late afternoon/evening watching an old comedy series called Romany Jones from 1974 & 5 with OH. Now I think I must get some zeds as I am yawning away whilst typing
  8. Afternoon all. Sunny here in Charlwood with some white cloud bubbling in from the south west. Cool breeze. Hope everyone is ok as flood waters recede.
  9. Evening all. Sorry for a bit of absence. Spitting rain here. On my journey to mum yesterday it was more flooded than I expected. Some good news; roofers have finally found the whole of our south-west facing wall where the sunroom in leaking, is sodden from the chimney down to the extension roof. They came and put felt and battens on the wall in the hope that when we next get heavy rain, it won't leak. Now, if they had done this on Christmas Eve or thereabouts, we would have been able to assess things. As it stands, we are actually hoping for some heavy rain and some wind to test if they have covered where the water is getting in. The old law of sod!
  10. I am so glad of my minimal damage with the trellis. Horrific problems for some people and I feel incredibly lucky and feel I should be doing something to help. Both OH and I had wanted to go and help with sand bags but he has been very unwell this weekend. I had a conversation with OH earlier regarding any winter weather this side of summer. OH works outside and has does all his life. He has an unscientific feel for the weather and is often very good at predicting stuff. His current thinking is we may get some very cold weather in the next few weeks. Hopefully we will get our weather station set up soon so I can learn more about the weather. Sorry waffling somewhat but I am incredibly tired today. As you were ;-)
  11. Gusts picking up again here. We did have some storm damage - the lattice woodwork holding up a rose has fallen over. Not walked doggy yet so may see storm damage then.
  12. Morning all. Bit windy here and beautiful sunshine. OH's mother struggling to get to Redhill due to fallen trees. We have all utilities and it actually eased off here around 00:35hrs. For those saying about Gatwick flying at night; there are around 56 air movements every night, however the vast majority are landings and non passenger movements. At certain times we do get all night flying too. Sorry was a bit tired last night to explain fully. Also I have never been awoke by one so one of the lucky people. Hope everyone is safe this morning.
  13. Thank goodness lol. They do land most of the night. They also fly non passenger jets out during the night.Gusts here have eased right off. Almost quiet at times. Think I'll get some zeds.Stay safe.
  14. Being as we have overhead electrics here, I am surprised - no flickering and no loss of power this winter.
  15. They are scheduled to fly in almost all night. I am at the take off end - 026. Too right! I had friends up there. Terrible. Epsom is usually pretty sheltered. We had no trees down in my road, but in Rosebery Park the top end by the swings lost a goo half dozen. Until I went there I didn't think anything had happened!
