2021 they almost got to 50C in Canada too in their hottest June on record. Sorry, I know this is all off topic for Spring discussion - is there a CC chat?

There will always be exceptions to the rule. It doesn't negate the fact that the vast majority of the planet has experienced varying degrees of increased warmth.

Actually, I got back the day before the heatwave started that June, so I was expecting a continuation of what I had become accustomed to. The second half of that summer was definitely disappointing compared to the first, but I don't remember it being as bad as people say. Maybe because the good weather in August coincided with both of the festivals I went to hahaha. Rose tinted glasses and all that . . .

Absolutely agree with your top 2! 2017 I wasn't in the country so couldn't say from experience but remember people talking about how nice the weather was, trying to make me jealous (I was in the rainforest so this didn't work haha). But if I had to have a 3rd from memory, then it would be 2018. The snow at the start of March was exciting and even though the rest of the month might not have seemed very inspiring, there was a feeling of spring as things slowly warmed up from then (bar the mid-month snow). April had a memorable heatwave that flung us into summer, then came May . . . and you know the rest As for the worst, Spring 2021 really was an endurance test IMO. As much as I enjoyed the dry and sunny April as much as I could (it felt like a properly 'spring' month in a way), the cold mornings and especially cold early month just seemed to be relentless and the May was diabolical. Probably didn't help I was doing my dissertation and many lockdown restrictions were still in place but absolutely the worst Spring I can remember - in stark contrast to 2020 the year before! Apart from that, I've found every other Spring I can remember has delivered overall. Specific months such as April 2012 haven't been enough to dampen my overall view of the season.

Conditions do look pretty wet and a bit on the windy side, but a bit more sun about than last week at least, and mid-teens for some! Will feel very spring like in sheltered areas First morning I didn't take my big coat in to work since October I think! Felt very mild and humid.

This is really noticeable in the average monthly Tmax since 2013 too. Of the last 10 years, 15 months exceeded 24C+ including 4 months 26C+. The previous 10 years in comparison had 4 months exceeding 24C+ including 2 26C+. (Ranges from 1 month to 9 in previous 5 decades)

Looking at historical data, it appears that climate has shifted slightly 'South'. To say for example, that the climate in London now is more or less what Paris would have had about 40 years ago, more so April to October - not an exact science but generally. Far from Mediterranean but there has been a shift.

Undeniably a trend for longer and more intense heatwaves, even in summers that don't stand out otherwise. I would predict that whatever synoptics we are dealt with, there is still a high chance of at least one heatwave that tops out with temperatures topping at around or above 35C. High pressure also seems to be more dominant for longer, with 'chunks' of weather types rather than constant changeability. Considering we had just 3 years in between new heat records, and 4 years between equal hottest summers (2018 and 2022, correct me if I'm mistaken), I wouldn't be surprised to see another summer that delivers something outstanding. Of course, there are always exceptions, but the trend is fairly clear, especially exaggerated it seems for more southern and eastern areas.

The sun has appeared for the first time this month (bar perhaps some on the 2nd I believe ). do enjoy all weathers, but this gloomy spell I do hope comes to and end soon. Looks like we might at least get some more sun tomorrow after a very cold and frosty start. Heading up to Nottingham tonight - I wonder if there's still lying snow? After this weekend looks like Spring may be replaced by Autumn for a while - hopefully some sunshine in between the showers and spells of rain, but I know we need some water after last year and February so I'll not complain too much. Best to get it out the way now eh!

To be fair, it wasn't in reference to the thickness on the ground; there were just bursts of heavy snow falling with giant snowflakes. It was nice to walk in it as I only woke up to the snow we had in December!

We had a nice covering this morning. Woke up in West London and travelled on the overground via Hampstead Heath to work in Hackney Wick. The whole ground there was white it was beautiful to see. Lasted a while and the snow was pretty thick at times (gone now of course). Definitely a nice occurrence but now bring on sunshine and some warmer days . . . please

I remember even in London in December 2017 there was temporarily lying snow (think it lasted until the next morning on the grass etc). Other than that, a slight icing sugar dusting in 2012 is the only December snow I can remember since 2010.

It does feel like this Autumn is a month behind schedule in a way. A lot of trees here still almost fully green! And as @damianslaw says still lots of flowers about (geraniums on my balcony still too). Normally looks like this at the start of October rather than November. But I enjoy the lengthened colour show we get in this setup. Absolutely stunning morning today, if only there were a bit of frost it would be perfect!

Starting to feel like Autumn today. Haven't felt proper wind like that for a good while. May not last beyond this week but finally got a bit of a 'seasonal' vibe today. Time to get cosy!

Oh no I totally agree from an enjoyment perspective. Spring is almost an extension of the summer for me here. The more outdoor time we get the better.

I do agree with you there, it is nice to get those cozier days at this time of year. I feel like the shorter days still make it feel reasonably seasonal though. And the warm springs are particularly notable aren't they! It's almost a given these days we'll get some real heat in April and May (and I do enjoy that too). But like you suggest, it is a sign of the changes to come . . .

Maybe I got so used to such high temperatures this summer I've become Mediterranean! I must admit I did have to take it off on my lunch break today though.

I might be one of few enjoying this late warmth. It's nice 'jumper weather' I feel. I'll cling on to not having to take 5 layers out to the clubs as long as I can Still looking forward to some frosty mornings though, no doubt we'll have a few under our belt by the end of November!
