  1. Yesterday's humidity gave me a headache and nausea, today is a little less humid but the breeze has died since earlier so even that relief has gone. Only comfort is the time of year being what it is it's bound to cool down sooner or later.
  2. Disgustingly humid out there today, and even with the breeze it feels really uncomfortable. October can't come soon enough.
  3. Well it's certainly a big 180 from the GFS for next weekend. Although next Friday still looks very warm the weekend is much cooler, with the heat staying away into the week after. I've got a feeling we're not totally out of the woods yet but if the latest GFS run is anywhere near verifying we should survive the rest of August.
  4. And the thing is I know there's a Poor Summer Haters' thread on the forum, and I haven't even visited it once. I'm not going to go and tell them they're wrong for hating cooler weather in summer, I'm not going to try and demonstrate to them the virtues of drizzle or the benefits of rain in summer so why can't heat lovers show us the same courtesy? It's baffling.
  5. Wasn't today supposed to be fresher? It still feels way too warm at the moment and I'm tired of it.
  6. Well you can certainly feel the difference out there today. The humidity is noticeably higher now and is already quite uncomfortable. I'm just glad this is only a short spell.
  7. I'm never posting in the model thread again. Heat-rampers the lot of 'em.
  8. Not really the same is it? Unless you have aircon none of the other steps you mentioned reduce the air temperature. It's not like in winter where you can turn the heat up if it's too cold is it?
  9. Some worrying signs that, although next week's heat may be a one day wonder high pressure may be on the way back early in the week after. Let's hope we don't see a return to prolonged heat like we had last August.
  10. Well, look on the bright side - it's August, which means shorter days, and the Sun won't be as high in the sky so it might not feel quite as bad in direct sunlight as earlier in the summer. But it's not ideal whichever way you look at it. Fingers crossed it's only a brief heatwave.
  11. Hopefully any heatwave that does materialise next week will be a two-day plume rather than a repeat of last August's horror show.
  12. It's still humid out there even though temps aren't especially high. This summer is turning out to be really draining, since even when the temperature isn't high the feel is still a muggy one. I'm not sure if that's because of the higher than average SSTs in the North Atlantic or me becoming even more sensitive to the heat than before, but it's still unpleasant. I can't wait for autumn!
  13. I don't mind warm weather in September, the days aren't as long and the sun isn't as strong. As long as temps don't get to the 80s fahrenheit it can be pleasant in the autumn.
  14. My location is currently experiencing its first true nighttime since the 17th of May. Autumn is getting ever closer now!
  15. Welcome as this weather is (for us at least) what we need to realise is this is normal British summer weather, and that includes the upcoming plume and following thundery breakdown. What has happened in recent summers is the aberration, not what we're having at the moment. Heat-lovers have been spoiled in recent summers.
  16. I remember 30C days that were overcast. One day sticks out, it was in August 1997 I think, with a very muggy 30C with cloudy skies and even a few spots of drizzle/light rain. I rmemeber that month very well as an almost tropical feeling one, in sharp contrast to August 1995.
  17. If we're going to have to suffer hot weather I'd rather it happen later in summer when the days are shorter and the longer nights might offer a little more respite.
  18. I must be one of that 0% then... FWIW this has been a great spell of weather. Useable, good for sleeping, dry at times but with a bit of rain too. I just wish it could be like this for the next few weeks!
  19. Some of us are enjoying this less warm weather and appreciate the lower temperatures and more comfortbale feel.
  20. Looking at the heat that's currently across much of Iberia at the moment all I can say is thank god for the jet stream. My only concern is how long will it be before that heat makes it way towards us.
  21. Our luck's going to run out eventually but I'm determined to make the most of this weather while it lasts. I'll do some weeding in the back garden later and probabl give the front lawn a trim too. Get some work done while the weather's useable.
  22. The media's coverage of the weather in this country is atrocious at times. The Met Office have been trying their best to counter hysterical reports of "five more heatwaves this summer" across various outlets but they seem to be a lone voice of reason in a sea of hype. Met Office moves swiftly to debunk reports of 'five more UK heatwaves' this summer Some of the worst culprits: Met Office predicts scorching 40C heatwave for July EXCLUSIVE: 14-day heatwave to hit Britain as dates temperatures to soar over 40C revealed Scorching two-week heatwave to hit UK as temperatures 'set to soar to 40C' No doubt they're all trying to out-do the mad thread for summer weather hype.
  23. It feels so different outside now, much cooler and fresher thankfully. There's even a decent breeze blowing so it'll help blow that fresher air through the house. I hope the humidity stays away now, at least for a while.
