  1. Naughty Met O. Saying 'still a low chance' implies that's what they've been saying all along. They haven't!!!
  2. I wish I'd been around to see it! My dad talks about it. 79 and 2010 were Brill but not in same league !
  3. Most of us have our selfish indulgences. It's human if we love something so much to perhaps lose sight of the impacts it may have on others. There are worse things than liking cold and snow.
  4. Blimey! Was it rain in Manchester or a shadow thing?? Can't remember anything decent! Love the photos!
  5. November was a Sunday event yes? Me and my mates struggled to get back from Edinburgh that day! Don't remember a march 23 event. I'm staggered there were 20 ft drifts. Am I missing something here???
  6. I this is why we've done better in recent years on this side. As you say, the transient ones have done a runner. I remember some of those when I lived in West Yorkshire in 90's. West of the pennines they were never cold enough and the snow shadow would always show its hand anyway
  7. Can you remember one from maybe 2003 or 2004? Think Jan. Was about 4 inches?? Happened overnight.
  8. That Jan 96 one was incredible. Had I been as interested then as I am now, am not sure how I would have coped!!! Didn't we have a week last winter where it stayed on ground? Thinking December??
  9. Fascinating chart. So much to analyse. Interesting that 97 to 2009 only 2 below 91 to 2010 average. The next 12 years has 6 below. Of course, I'm picking one scenario that could suggest a slight move to colder but I am biased!!!!
  10. 7 out of 10 for spell 7 also for snow event. Feb looks promising. Who needs a SSW Why isn't rain ever marginal!
  11. I believe first half of 70's weren't particularly cold. I was at primary school. No snow at all. Second half of 70's different story
  12. Manchester's averaged 4 below for a week so I'm cold for a very cold week here. Snow always a surprise in Stockport so for me, a very good winter spell.
  13. Yes, we do get a lot of snowless periods. 6 out of 7 years pretty good though. 2018 beast, 2019 think it was Jan, 2020 none, 2021 quite a few snowfalls and pretty cold January, 2022 none but it had snowed in November, 2023 we had snow twice, 2024 last Tuesday.
  14. Keep this conversation going please!!!! I've been saying this for a while about low lying areas and finally someone hears me!. Where I live in Stockport I hear the usual stuff about the cold snowy winters we used to have. We really didn't! Winters were colder yes, but no way were they snowier other than the ones you mention. Going back further, 79 and 81 were very memorable. This is now the 6th year out of 7 we've had good snowfalls. Wonder is it because our cold spells are now more from north westerly?? 80s were dominated by easterlies. Great for some parts, but not for mancunions. Snowy breakdowns from the south west even worse!!!! Is Manc the new Moscow!
  15. Latest radar suggests parts of we're all in the game tonight. Probs not as much snow as Monday. Presume still cold enough low levels
  16. It's funny isn't how we search desperately for the models to give us answers? Honestly, it wasn't till Monday night that we had a clue we'd get snow!!!
