  1. Sounds almost the same as last year - with the snowfalls almost at the same time (1st Dec and then mid-month), I really Can't see this happening but it wouldn't surprise me if we have another December on the cold/cool side of the CET as per many other years of the last decade or so.
  2. I can beat that just before that brief colder spell I saw 2 House Martins, still loads of ladybirds and butterflies down here. 18.3c recorded yesterday!
  3. I think his summer forecast wasn't to bad, although the flooding aspect was never experienced. Also I think he is a growing number of LRF forecasters attributing solar and gulf impacts into the equation, as for the October snow yes he has bent the truth somewhat there. Personally the longer this mild weather continues the greater chance of seeing colder conditions into winter but thats just going by the law of sequence.
  4. cooler second half after a mild start - I think that is more or less the overall feeling at the moment, so 8.0c for me.
  5. Incredibly dry here - without much mention on national forecasts, infact probably the driest I've ever seen it at this time of year but if the models are to be believed with that large block over western russia/scandanavia we will soon be under the influence of low pressure in the next week and once it starts (rain) after such a period without much precipitation at this time of year it's sods law we'll get nothing else but rain for weeks so make the most of this weekend.
  6. Personally I think the paper is a joke, I like how about a week a go they had a caption at the top of the paper saying 'We told you so' as there was snow at the top of the Cairngorms (Aviemore) which lasted a day or so - which must have been experienced by millions of people and is duly fortifying their headlines from a few weeks previous.
  7. Incredibly dry here - hardly any mention on the beeb about the continued drought in the south east as the temps are taking all the headlines! I walked alongside a just recently ploughed field yesterday, it was like a dust bowl, tumble weed on it and more like a scene from 1976 than autumn. With all this sunshine and continued dryness all the leaves will be down come November. Looking at the models even though it does look like becoming more unsettled towards mid-week the rainfall totals will be pretty small I reckon.
  8. I reckon somebody at the Express has meteorology as a hobby, maybe the editor? It seems 9/10 it is the Daily Express with these wild headlines based just on long range forecasts. The chances of November and December being similar to last year to me is pretty remote although December over the last decade or so has proved to be the coldest month anomoly wise.
  9. Jeez man you had a mixed 2006?!? down here it was one of the best since 1976! - yeah as previous people have mentioned go back to the late 70's and most of the 80's bar 83 and 89 and there were far poorer than now and certainly cooler!
  10. Minimum of 15.2c overnight - totally ridiculous for November!
  11. Come on 9 out of 10 times the met office predict a mildish or mild winter so no surprise there! not sure how the East of England's going to have milder temps than the south west, well at least anomoly wise.
  12. Be interesting to see if this will be our last shot (currently) at a cold spell with some snow before the winters out, going by the GFS all the wintry stuff will be further north after the weekend. Not sure how I will mark this winter in regards to other winters but obviously will be in the cold category but nothing untowards if we were still in the 80's although this is not the case for Scotland. Very similar I'd say to 1984/85 with 2 cold spells and snow, well in these parts.
  13. Can't see snow for southern parts of the UK from that, lower air will be modified to much by the time it reaches these parts even though the uppers are reasonable. For Scotland, N Ireland and Northern England could have a good spell of wintry conditions, but feeling a little short changed at the moment over the supposed Wintry North Easterly which is now getting more and more 'watered down', so much that nobody is even mentioning it now.
  14. TheGFS looks to be all over the place at the moment! - what ever happenend to the influence of the Siberian/Scandy high that it showed for quite a few runs a couple of days ago, it now seems to have vanished. So far this winter the GFS has performed very poorly and I really take evrything it shows outide +72/96HRS with a large pinch of salt!
  15. Have to agree - those 2 blobs would have almost gone by the time it gets to blighty, looks like the show is over, good job we had that trough yesterday afternoon otherwise it would have left alot of people putting the rope up!
  16. light patchy snow at the moment but it does seem to be settling better now as temps have dropped somewhat - how is the radar looking anyone?
  17. ocassional light snow on and off here - slight thaw ongoing  temps: 1.4C
  18. hows everybody else fairing in Essex at the mo? - got about 4 inches so far! snowing somewhat lighter now.
  19. its basically falling out of the sky here at the moment - very heavy!! if it carries on like this just til this evening we'll have in excess of 7/8 inches I reckon!
  20. snowing here now heavier too!! got to brave the elements in a minute and take the westie out for a walk, he'll blend in nicely apart from his tartan collar and nose
  21. interestingly temps dropping quite a bit now - reading -0.3C and when it snows settling on everything.
  22. light to moderate snow here - got about 3 inches cover now, temps have nudged down a bit now 0.1c
  23. temps going up here as well now at 0.3c and little in the way of ppn but quite grey, wind at about 12/13mph from the NE - the beeb are expecting upto 10cms tonight in this region and possibly upto 20cms on the downs but largely stated tonight. what are your dewpoints?
