  1. I don't mean to stray too much onto NO...but... Am I the only who last year felt that after 40yrs or so of 'getting lucky', that not would Katrina hit, but that in 2006/7 would be hit again. Statisically speaking, the NO area was just so fortunate. Conversely, there I would believe it is now swinging back the other way, with another direct hit either this or next year. --- On the radar, Ernesto looking strong. Calrissian: Chooses to live above sea level - since he is not stupid.
  2. Good day all. Well, after a few months of waiting, - nevermind the long winter/spring, looks like its back to business again. We got outselves here a pretty impressive storm heading into the GOM. Latest Dvorak, looks like a discernible eye now http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/flt/t2/loop-bd.html Baring some weird collapse, looks like Ernesto is a certain Cat'3. However, as I noted earlier, the min' low certainly allows for the possiblity of pressure down to 880'ish. Nasty ! So, its time to get stocked up on biscuits, or whatever you fancy, and settle in for what looks to be the first biggie of the season. As I've read on other non-met forums, for those in the cone of death, the time to prepare is now, and it ain't no good relying on the federal govt ! Calrissian: His cupboards are stacked with biscuits
  3. Aye, in terms of the pressure drops. My fave. link at moment http://wxmaps.org/pix/hurpot.html#ATL Look at how low it is feasible for any storm to be in the GOM.
  4. Pressure: 1038, variable to 3050 at times Visibility: zero Humidity: zero Temp: 5034C Wind, light 5/7, gusting force 2/3 Outlook: foamy, with likely spells of controlled precipitation Station: Hemel Hempstead, NE Quad -------- Calrissian: data can not be guarenteed for accuracy
  5. copy that ! It sure was one nasty blast wave here...although only last 4-5 mins at most here. No mercy though, was so very dark, and still is mostly. I would expect Londoners are in for a surprise right about NOW ! The wind gust...hard to say..but surely that was 40-50mph at times?
  6. Just reading a posting by someone on another site, from Stevenage. Naturally, they caught the shower that just a little earlier hit me. It really was a right nasty blast wave of ick. Severe winds for 3-4 mins, mega lateral rain...and now its just overhead gloom.
  7. woah Severe rain and wind here in hatfield, Herts. Major dark skies...what a hoot this is ! Just a shower no doubt, but still....its the first real 'weather' we've had so far this spell. Calrissian: windswept.
  8. Aha ! Just looked out window...and first time in what seems like years... Thick fog in the leafy suburbs of Hatfield, Herts. Temp is bordering on 0c (I assume). Hmm, very still indeed. Peaceful. Cal: needing chocolate, bad.
  9. Vince is a beautiful sight, a clearly defined eye, small but very cohesive. It certainly adds a touch of interest to this week, along with tomorrows 72f temps in the south-east of the UK. *it remains interesting how the 'professionals' are having difficulty in keeping an open mind to a real 'hurricane' in our part of the world.
