  1. Hi all, having tried various software i still havent found any decent software for direct streaming my webcam (i.e in windows media or though java). I go through a router which may proove tricky, but if any of you can help it will be greatly appriciated. Cheers :o (p.s, using a netgear router, and the webcam is an old Sony Digital8 hooked into the usb)
  2. Just to add to a great explaination, CAPE refers to the energy available to a parcel of buoyent air (this is usually down to thermals in summer), so CAPE is basically the potential for convection. The greater the amount (measured in K/joules) the greater risk of convection. In summer when theres a high risk of thunderstorms the CAPE value in certian areas that have just the right conditions, is usually about 400+ in the U.K but can exceed 1000+ in the USA and other places. LI or (Lift Index) is also related to CAPE becuase LI is the trigger for convection which enables the Parcle of air access to the CAPE. Usually a good indiction of thunderstorms would be a CAPE of at least 300K/J and a LI of -4 (the negative meaning that there is a very high risk of the Cape being triggered). So CAPE on its own isnt a very good indicator of t-storms or convection, but you need together with it an LI value of at least -3.
  3. Cool, well if nighttime temps seem ok then its got to be the shed, i have the same problem in my set, where ever i put the temp sensor there is some material like bricks ect, that may alter the reading slightly, but its being moved onto a ver large pole soon, so the house doesnt have an affect. hope you get it sorted.
  4. Hi, it may well be a faulty sensor, or the shed is acting as a heating element that when sun is on the one side the air inside the shed heats up thus heating the walls, the walls then conducut heat into the nearby air where the sensor is located. That theory doesnt explain the night time temps though, try seeing if by moving it makes a difference, like bringing it into the house and see how accurate it is. You may also want to consider the possiblity of radio interference, this is a problem even at 433mhz and my wireless station as sometimes i get Spikes of about 40c.
  5. Yes, believe me if i could have bought one from overseas i wouldnt have a la crosse now thats for sure . Again Davis just trying to make as much money as possible, EBAY is a good palce to look, but like you said if anything goes wrong or needs replacing it all needs to go back to america, which is gonna cost quite a bit.
  6. Where did you get it from? - becuase i sent Davis an email about this and its agianst their policy if US retialers are shipping them to the u.k.
  7. You carnt ship it from any 'Registered' Davis dealers as they wont ship it to the u.k, instead you have to buy it over here, believe me i tried to get one from davis in america (and all the retailers) and they wouldnt ship it to the u.k.
  8. For that money, the best buy has to be the DAVIS weather station (wireless) and you can plug into your computer. John Holmes has one so best person to ask about that particular station.
  9. Looks like everyone north and east of teh midlands is gonna get a white saturday night and sunday morning, althoguh once agian i'll miss out, mild air pushing in very quickly on monday though so it wont be around for long.
  10. Heres my first (will post the others later on into the month )
  11. My vote goes to Fraser5002, absolutly beautiful!, picture.
  12. 0.2C RH: 92% 1019 -Stable dew: -0.9C Wind: E, 0.1Mph Conditions, 2cm of snow from overnight light snow starting to fall.
  13. If you look at the radar you can see the snow belt over the north midlands, and omg its started snowing again.
  14. wow! i wake up to find everything covered with about 2cm of snow, Great!!!
  15. Interesting! I think for me springtime is quite nice as the Wintery crap moves away and replaced by a warmer sun, wildlife and plant growth kicks back in, oh and the heavy showers of course!
  16. Had 2cm here today (from 8:30 till 1:00pm), turned to drizzle quite quick though then melted.
  17. There was another post asking about whether Dew/Forst prep. is counted as rainfall and the conclusion was yes.
  18. Hi, i dont think there is a uv sensor with that W/S, i have looked under all the websites that sell it and none of them so that sensor, they do show additional temp sensors etc. To my knowledge the only W/S with a uv sensor is the Davis Vantage pro2, but they ask alot of money for it (last time i looked it was about £900). - I have found a stand alone UV station that is wireless here , its £54, but you carnt add it into your current W/S.
  19. First of all, best of luck with your purchase I perosnally dont leave the PC on overnight (12am to 7am), as just like you say it wil use alot of power (due to the fact it has a 650watt psu), but as with all electrical appliences its always best to shut them off overnight just incase of short circuits or overheating etc. A laptop does seem a more appealing idea, as they only have a 60watt supply, and portable, an idea i (after reading this) am concidering.
