  1. Quite right. Even the springs mushy listed weren’t that dry overall, just had a lengthy dry period at some point. April 1998, spring 1999, May 2007 (actually wetter than June or July here), spring 2008, Apr/May 2012 - all were changeable or downright unsettled. Oh the joys of trying to pattern match!
  2. A cool night last night, down to 7C. Relative normal, that’s like getting -3.5C in December. Bright so far this morning.
  3. Was just going to say, humidity has been much higher this June than last . In fact, most heat in this country isn't humid. I think many people confuse 'heat' with 'humidity'.
  4. This June could end up being as unusual as last June for totally the opposite reasons. The most amazing thing I find is that we are having such unsettled conditions with a very incompetent Atlantic. It's as if the UK is a trough magnet - Storm Miguel lifts out of the UK then miraculously a low forms over Europe and moves towards us. The GFS even showed it move up across the UK to the northwest then swing back in and across us again before moving north again. I'd love to know what causes that.
  5. Yes I'm still waiting for one of those. Westerly Junes more often than not follow westerly Mays. I suppose some recent years when it wasn't the case were 2016 and 2008, which both produced wet Mays down here and dry (if rather cloudy and boring) Junes. Sometimes it works the other way and an easterly June follows a westerly May like 2009 or 2013. Funnily enough, it's the months that have the meridionally swerving jet that produce the wettest conditions down here, such as this month so far and what the models have been showing continuing for at least the next week.
  6. A comparatively conservative 17mm from yesterday - especially given the rain in the morning and thunderstorm in the evening. Not quite the wettest day of the year yet. Sunny and cool today and not as windy as I’d expected.
  7. Must be a location thing. June is the driest summer month down here given the higher likelihood of high pressure systems overhead than later on in the summer. May is on average that bit wetter as southerly lows often plague the south.
  8. Although I wasn’t home, my location took a near direct hit from the thunderstorms moving up through N Somerset. Instead, I was driving back from Wells across the Mendips and got an awesome visual on the cells with multiple lightning strikes visible. Had I not got stuck behind so many effing farmers and dippy drivers, I might have caught the back end of the storm that marched on up to west Bristol.

  10. Much finer rain now - like a heavy drizzle, as the heavier stuff has moved north.
  11. I'm so glad I'm travelling to various places over the next 4-5 months where there is actually some sun! The thought of patterns like this lasting into the summer is quite depressing - even June 2007 was better than this!
  12. Persistent moderate rain, dark and cold. Add a bit of wind in and it’d essentially be November.
  13. A very pleasant day thus far with lengthy sunny spells after a cool night. Some showers popping up locally now though.
  14. Really?! Looks alright whenever I drive to Radstock across the Mendips. Drove through some absolutely torrential rain at Green Ore on bank holiday Monday.
  15. This ‘dry spell’ never began here. There’s been rain on at least a weekly occurrence.
  16. Much fresher today with bright spells. Feeling quite cold though out of the sun and in the wind. Only 13C.
  17. It takes a particularly poor June for London to only average high of 20C - reserved for years like 2016, 2013, 2012 and 2002. Even 2007 was over a degree higher.
  18. Maybe we will have a 1999 style summer. Would have been nice to have had the May thunderstorms beforehand, but hey ho. July was lovely, as was early August but the rest of the month was pretty cloudy from memory.
  19. It’s all about sunshine for me. A cool or unsettled spell, even with wind, can be compensated for by sunshine. June is the sunniest month of the year here so this current weather is particularly balls.
  20. Had a torrential downpour in Bristol between 1.30-2. All moved off now with a little brightness but feeling quite steamy despite cool temperatures.
  21. Rather an odd comment given it’s been in a different place every year, most years flirting north of us and across us at different points, that’s if there’s been a coherent jet stream at all.
  22. Carrying on May's theme of 'usable' weather today with lengthy bright spells. Never particularly warm other than in the sun. Cloudier this evening.
  23. For the first time in years, I'm going away twice in August (unusual given the unnecessary cost), so I can guarantee that August will be the best in years lol.
