  1. It's the usual scenario, the midlands breeds them, the south east gets them....we're a right bunch of total breeders...lol......the main reason showers are building in the south midlands towards you is that they are passing through areas of favourable development, ie convective energy, increased lift & solar heating....here in the NW midlands we have the first 2 ingredients, but a lack of solar heating due to dissipating anvil shields from showers/further north
  2. hmm....getting a tad frustrated....caught in a band of lightish ppn arching back through yorks into the north sea, I was hoping for this to fire up, but instead the anvil/cirrus shield is seriously hampering convection...20 miles east and west big cells are fire readily, but not here....
  3. Plenty of energy around for showers to tap into.....already several hundred j/kg of CAPE over the north midlands & Oxon with plenty of air bouyancy...With the upper cold pool in place, lapse rates are conducive for deeper convection which should aid lightning development...all in all, providing these areas get some decent breaks to allow diurnal heating, all the ingredients are in place for thunderstorm development
  4. Lots of showers now firing over the Midlands, cloud is breaking readily and already some decent towers going up.....sferics also being detected from those showers to the west of London
  5. no thunder here but twas a pokey cell for sure giving a downpour here....sun is breaking through now, and with convective rainfall building up over Yorkshire currently, this should wrap around and affect our region this afternoon/evening....here's to a lively one!
  6. ok, for those with access to the radars, cast your eyes to the area of heavy rain and convective activity streaming off the north sea down into Yorkshire, as that's where our weather is coming from...It looks like it could be a very wet/interesting afternoon/evening.... ....Mark, it's already stopped raining....lol....you really need to cheer up!
  7. I think the 6 to 30 day outlooks are still there, you have to change the default weather location to your location, it will then load the 2 day summary for your location, at the bottom of the summary there's a link to the extended outlook....Very convoluted indeed, and I totally agree with you, the new web site is a disorganized mess to put it mildly!
  8. I agree Matt, it does look thundery.....quite a lot of convective activity brewing up in the oxon/northants area with sferics detected...With the wrap-around effect of the LP centre, it's from that direction that we should look to for any storm activity IMO
  9. To start the ball rolling for anyone interested, here's the thread I created to showcase last year's May 9th monster storm http://forum.netweat...nkridge-090511/
  10. rather than posting all the lovely storm footage in this particular thread, why not create your own thread/s with some narrative?.....At least that way, your footage won't get swamped & lost as this thread is likely to become very busy me thinks
  11. Great Storm, very well organized structure with a classic gust front & whales mouth...it's like looking into the jaws of infinity!
  12. Are you sure?....your house must have its own micro-climate then Radders because I've been in Rugeley this morning to see some customers and it's been raining/drizzling just about all morning!....and regarding not forseeing convective stuff then take a look at the radar and see what's developing to our south...plenty
  13. I'm not so sure Eugene...convection has kicked off markedly over the south midlands over the past hour, and even though we are under a cloud shield, this convective activity is spiraling around the LP centre and is heading for our region....might yet be a very interesting afternoon/evening
  14. Looking good for you today Andy....further north up here, it's steady rain with various intensities....I'm pretty much slap bang underneath the centre of the LP circulation and will probably have to look to my north and north east for any convective stuff later on as the LP slips away to the east/south east
  15. Already the atmosphere is responding to favourable conditions over some southern areas with some quite lively showers firing over Salisbury Plain, tapping into quite a bit of convective energy & considerable lift
  16. Ok, the thread's getting on a bit, so for your posting enjoyment, a squeaky clean new thread for you here -------------> Locking this one now
  17. A shiny new thread for you all Old thread here --------------> http://forum.netweat...n/page__st__860
  18. Ok, the threads getting a bit long now... New thread here ---------------> Closing this one now

  20. Ok, new thread open here ------------------> Closing this one now
  21. A squeaky clean thread to discuss all things weather for the Midlands region old thread here --------------> http://forum.netweat...7/page__st__820
  22. a few sferics popping up now on the lightning detector coming from the clump of cells around my location...I can report from here in Penkridge some rather large hail and a deep rumble of thunder..It's all passing through rather rapidly
  23. Rumble of thunder and some rather large hail here, nice cell popped up on radar just to my south
