  1. GFS12z significantly upgrades the possibility of snow for almost the entire region tomorrow....interesting indeed
  2. A pleasant day today with good sunny spells and it felt quite warm in the sunshine....Sunshine was hazy from time to time and what was noticeable during the afternoon into early evening was bands of Ac Floccus appearing in the western skies...I thought it was Ac Cas at first sight, but it was definitely floccus, but nice to see even this early in the spring. I will definitely like to see those cloud formations many more times going into summer as it would mean a stormy summer!
  3. ok, March is now upon us, no better time to do some spring cleaning and open a new thread... closing this one now
  4. ....and so as we move into March, here's a brand new thread to discuss our region's weather....Will it be a steady progression towards spring warmth, or will the winter of 11-12 have one last hurrah? Previous thread here --------> http://forum.netweat...6/page__st__700
  5. Some absolutely ridiculous posting going on in here....read the thread title!!
  6. Cold weather fans may want to peruse the 12z outputs, in particular the GFS, as it shows a cold a possibly snowy outlook from early next week.....a long way to go of course, but worth monitoring over the next few days
  7. It certainly is a beautiful day Conor.....hoping this summer we will get plenty of more days like today
  8. just spotted this...can you expand a bit on this CH?.....as from my perspective if you don't test theories, in any part of science, then you cannot move forwards and cannot evolve
  9. Brane-World cosmology is a theory that attempts to answer that question...see my previous posts for a quick overlay
  10. thought for a moment that you were talking about some of the stuff that gets posted in the model output thread
  11. I wouldn't say 'no' to another May 9th 2011 setup just a couple of months earlier :winky:
  12. ...and about the only thing good about Coleshill :winky:
  13. I don't agree TBH...if you take any of the proposed theories for the origins of the universe that are favoured by theoretical phyicists then they have one thing in common, the number of possible universes is greater than one, hugely greater than one in fact.....'many worlds' & many other quantum theories speculate an infinite number , where as string and M theory speculate at least 10*500 possible universes with the various permutations of physical dimensions and laws of physics, so rather than a co-incidence, it's simply the law of averages, we just happen to exist in a universe with the physical dimensions and laws of physics that allow the possibilities of life as we know it......It must be said though, that these are just my own thoughts and I have arrived at my conclusions based upon the theories that I believe plausible
  14. I've already answered that as such.....in this hypothesis, The Bulk is simply higher dimensional space...we can't visualize it as our brain can only think in 3 dimensional terms...but here's a couple of images that might help..
  15. but just to throw a spanner in the works, M-theory, or more especially brane-world cosmology speculates that the 'big bang' as such never happened.....it speculates, as QS alluded to, that our universe is a 3 dimensional brane floating in a higher dimensional space along with a huge number of other 3-D branes which, are separated by a tiny amount in the higher dimensional space....Negative energy between 2 of these branes attract the branes as they ripple in the higher dimensional space eventually touching in one spot, resulting in a huge energy release as they touch and rebound....This energy release fills the 2 branes and in our particular brane world results in all the matter we perceive today....The branes are repulsed further and further apart over time though the higher dimensional space (or Bulk for short) a phenomena we perceive as 'Dark Energy'...After say a trillion years, the repulsive force dissipates and the 2 branes are started to be mutually attracted by gravity until negative energy takes over and they touch again repeating the cycle......i.e no big bang, rather an eternal 'Big Splat' cycle confused?......I was for a long time before getting my head around brane-world cosmology....still it's one of many theories, but for me it's a simple theory, that makes sense, answers the key questions that other theories do not, it helps marry General Relativity & Quantum Theory, and lastly is backed up to a degree by data from the WMAP satellite currently in orbit
  16. just to add, when (if) theoretical physicists ever come up with a nailed on, true Theory of Everything, it wouldn't surprise me if it isn't a hybrid of all the currently conjectured hypotheses i.e many worlds/M-(String) theory/Quantum-Loop ..... For any one interested in further reading, a few books I would recommend and easy on the eyes are.. john gribbin - in search of the multiverse brian greene - the fabric of the universe michio kaku - parallel worlds brian clegg - before the big bang There are many more books on these theories, the majority of which do require a good understanding (at least degree level) of mathematics, so books I've mentioned make an excellent starting point for the layperson
  17. I don't buy many worlds hypothesis TBH....personal opinion on the wave-particle duality of light is that light is actually extra-dimensional....what we see in the 'wave' form we are actually seeing the 3 dimensional projection of light, light is in fact ripples in the 5th spatial dimension.....why can't we see of interact with this 5th spatial dimension?...because it's curled up on it self and is too small to observe, leading onto string theory......
  18. Bare in mind that it's purely theory and at this time (the many worlds hypothises) is empirically untestable
  19. Really?......Nov & Dec are normally full of mild & mush whereas normally cold & snow come in Jan, Feb & sometimes March....Best snow events I can remember up here have always been Feb & March
  20. certainly got a lot chiller during the latter part of the afternoon as cloud enroached from the north west, distinctly chilly out there now, but a lovely day, just what the doctor ordered
  21. Ok....you've made your point...more than once....can we move on now please
  22. 15C-18C degrees reported widely across the region today, some local 'hot spots' recording higher........BTW, please respect member posts please chaps....if someone records a temp value, then accept it as a genuine recording unless proven otherwise ....ta...
  23. The 'Wunderground' network of amateur weather stations are throwing up a few sperious recordings currently....eg Stourbridge 21C & Penkridge 22C...they must be well sheltered in direct sunshine for those figures to be possible....Looking around the region, 14C-17C are being widely recorded
  24. I haven't got a clue TBH, my old weather station is resting peacefully now somewhere in the Wolverhampton Council refuse tip....lol....I would imagine that it's knocking on the door of 60F though, certainly feels like it
