  1. 28.5c here in Lincoln with dew point at 17c and RH of 55%, so the lower atmosphere is really packing some heat and energy now - Temp has gone up over 10c in the last 4 hours now that the low cloud is burning off. Will be interesting to see developments from this point on - with Dews in the upper teens and RH over 50% it would genuinely surprise me if we didn't get storm development of some sort. That's a fairly enrgetic lower atmosphere.
  2. Reefs stats are almost identical to ours. If you've got it then I'm chuffed for you but day after day of bone chilling winds and grey stratus would, I suggest try the patience of most on here.
  3. Well the snow buggered up my game of golf today, and looks like we'll miss out on friday and saturday. I'm sick of this now, can we please start to see some evidence of spring and put this tease of a winter to bed!
  4. that top highland cattle shot is a corker, 4wd.
  5. Roughly the same elevation and distance from the coast as Woldsowl but 40 miles further south and it's very definately all rain here. Supposed to be playing golf at Rufford tomorrow, so I might have a quick look in the midlands forum to make sure it is just rain.
  6. Quite a tricky drive to the station early this morning with around 2 or 3 cm of snow overnight. Down in London today and not back in Lincs until this evening and a little apprehensive about my drive home.
  7. Flurries on and off here, but the most noticable thing has been the strength and perishing nature of the wind, it feels very cold on the hill tops today, but has dried off many of the surfaces - what snow falls is now in with a better chance of sticking.
  8. Light snow here for two hours, but the 6 hours of on-off rain today means no chance of it settling unless the temperature seriously drops.
  9. Just rain here, though the temp and dews are very slowly getting lower. V. marginal for this neck of the woods I think.
  10. Around 190,000 people without power in Rhode Island alone! It'll be days before some of them get their electricity back. Some of the live footage from the centre of Providence is surreal. 16 inches of snow in downtown Providence!!!
  11. Some parts of inland Rhode Island are reporting 4 inches AN HOUR, added to the fact that the wind is gusting to 70 mph over places like Nantucket and Cape Cod and it's no surprise that they're reporting white out conditions (proper white out conditions, rather than the term used far too often, and incorrectly, on this site!!!) WPRI in Providence reporting 12,000 people in Rhode Island are without power now. Widespread thundersnow across parts of Connecticut being reported too.
  12. Sleet's turned to rain - no idea why, snow to the south and north of us. You couldn't make it up.
  13. Moderate snow here just outside Louth, it's taken its sweet time arriving, but we've got a good covering with the heaviest ppn still out to our west, so should be an interesting night.
  14. Probably my favourite pub, The Blakey. I betit's raw up there!
  15. There's still some convection going on off-shore, though it's notreally any great shakes, so that does correspond with the localforecast this morning, which suggested show showers on and off all morning and into the early afternoon.
  16. Very tricky drive into work over the Wolds this morning - There wasn't too much new snow at our house just outside Louth, perhaps 1.5 inches, but as soon as you climbed over the first set of hills, the snow depth increased and there were some impressive drifts. Now in Lincoln where it's still falling and there is a good 2 inches plus of fresh snow. Will post pics later.
  17. still snowing here - and we've got blowing snow in a strong ENE wind - it took a while to turn from sleet to snow, but we've got a really good covering at the moment, even on the main road out the front, and despite the passing gritters. I was a bit trepidatious about this, but the radar looks good, and it'll be tough on the cross-wolds routes tomorrow morning.
  18. After 30 minutes of sleet, we've now got very light snow. Dews dropping as well, so that's good news. Right, off to watch the NFL now - enjoy it if you get it.
  19. Sleet here - looks like the coastal influence is being felt up to 10 miles inland, we've got a strong and blustery ESE wind, which is obviously having a moderating effect on temps and dews.
  20. Game over? Seriously? The northern extent of the snow is about Peterborough, and you're writing off an event not scheduled to even arrive in North Yorkshire for another 5-6 hours? Warning areas can and do change.
  21. Quite. We've seen time and again it's the little mesoscale features that impact most during situations like this - sea temp moderation, minor changes in wind strength and direction, disturbances etc and these are almost impossible to forcast ahead of time.
  22. Thaw overnight with the current temp at 2C - looking marginal for here I'd say, but reports from further south at least giving some cause for optimism. May well depend on the heaviness of the ppn and evaporative cooling effects - wouldn't surprise me if we end up with a rain-snow-rain event. Looks tasy for those further inland though.
