  1. So close to "blizzard like" conditions here, accumilating very nicely... just getting heavier!
  2. It's go so dark here now, absolutely throwing it down. Approaching a covering now... will get pictures up within the hour. Would be bitterly disappointed if I didn't see 15cm's here by the end of the cold snap.
  3. It's go so dark here now, absolutely throwing it down. Approaching a covering now... will get pictures up within the hour. Would be bitterly disappointed if I didn't see 15cm's here by the end of the cold snap.
  4. A good dusting here now with the snow still coming down, very good prospects for the next 96-120 hours or so.
  5. Heaviest shower of the day just started here, looking at the radar it could be rather prolonged. <_< Sticking to all surfaces readily, now.
  6. Heaviest snow shower of the day starting here now... sticking to all surfaces this time. Looking at the radar over the next few hours it seems likely showers will be heavy and prolonged at times... this one right now might still being falling 30 minutes from now with any luck!
  7. East Midlands warning from midnight tonight, righout through to Tuesday evening: There is a High Risk of a Severe Weather event affecting much of England, Wales and eastern Scotland during Monday and Tuesday. Periods of snow will continue to extend northwestwards through Monday, with heavy falls likely in places. Although marked variations will occur from place to place, 5-10cm is likely in many areas with as much as 20-30cm possible, especially over higher ground. Drifting will occur in fresh to strong easterly winds. This could cause disruption to travel networks, especially across higher level routes. During Tuesday, snow may turn to rain from the east at lower levels.
  8. About 16 miles southwest of Lincoln here and snow showers have been packing in over the last few hours... albeit mostly light in nature. Another one just beginning now. Remember though, convection will pickup from early afternoon onwards so the radar is likely to look very interesting within an hour or two.
  9. Indeed Andy - I had a feeling the showers would be more widespread today than the BBC forecast, I believe they remained with the cautious approach due to so much uncertainty from the models right now. Radar will look very interesting by 2pm... thats when some small accumilations could occur.. then on into tonight is anyones guess. Of course - great news from Monday night into Tuesday. Latest forecast shows the band remaining persistant and heavy, but clearing through much of the Midlands before the mild sector temporarily kicks in... I wouldn't be surprised to see 10-15cm's quite widely in Lincs, E Mids, NE England. Some good falls for the SE, EA, Central Midlands etc too.
  10. This is superb already, dusting on grass and other surfaces. Moved away from snow grains to more general falls in the last 30 minutes or so. Looking at the radar my location is looking favoured to do very well out of the showers today... something which I didn't expect yesterday... 30-40cm's forecast for the Pennines by the early hours of Tuesday...
  11. Don't worry mate, if anything the PPN right now has been more progressive than first forecast. Showers will really start pepping up early afternoon.
  12. Moderate snow grains falling here, temperate of 3.7C and dropping away. Let the games begin.
  13. Moderatore shower of snow grains here, lasted around 10 minutes and still falling.
  14. GFS will hold true at this range... despite the fact its been unreliable this winter, at this sort of range it will always be favoured. I would be surprised if it backtracked tommorow. Perhaps a middleground will be found between the GFS and ECM... but if not, I would only be backing one outcome.
  15. The interesting fact is that both the GFS and ECM have been stubborn for sometime now, and have completely conflicting views on whether the mild sector will hit our shores, and whether it will have any effect. Unfortunately, despite the problems the GFS has had this winter, I would always back it at THIS range. Wintry mix for Lincs, East Midlands, Central Midlands... perhaps even turning to rain for a time. <--- That's what we are looking at from Monday teatime onwards as it stands.. still a small chance of it changing those.. but I back the ECM to reverse next run and agree with the GFS... or perhaps meet in the middle (this scenario would make the event marginal, but still perhaps on the WRONG side of marginal for the areas I just listed.)
  16. Thought I should re-post my thoughts here too... We are now on the verge of some of the biggest snowfalls seen in the UK in the last 20 years IMO. Over ramping? I don't think so. Eastern areas Sunday into Monday could see falls in excess of 10-20cm's, even to lower levels... and if things remain on the right side of marginal overnight monday into tuesday morning these amounts could be exceeded.. especially over high ground and not to mention drifts in a strong Easterly wind! If thats not enough for you, things starting to come together now and it seems we will experiance a reload with a NE'ly! Hold tight and keep your fingers crossed folks... we are so close to the biggest widespread winter spell since the internet began...
  17. In the way of a short-term prospects, things are looking extremely favourable for NE Areas, stretching from NE England, perhaps down into the East Midlands and Lincolnshire. The window of opportunity from this Easterly looks to be between Sunday afternoon, all the way through to Tuesday morning - where things MAY turn a little more marginal. Taking a closer look snow showers will begin to develop early on Sunday afternoon. Initially limited to Eastern coastal areas, but as we go into the evening these showers will penetrate much further inland, become more frequent, and perhaps gain in intensity. Into Monday and this is looking very favourable for many Eastern areas. Snow showers from the get go for many areas, again becoming more frequent and heavier throughout the day, penetrating well inland, I wouldn't rule out a snow shower anywhere in England, although East will always be best in this scenario. Monday night looking particularly interesting.. heavy snow and showers merging into longer periods of snow looks likely. Of course snowfall amounts are always hard to pinpoint, but I wouldn't rule out local falls in excess of 10cm's in Eastern areas, even to lower levels. A covering of snow is likely for most Eastern and Central areas by Tuesday. A dusting of snow in Western areas (and more locally) can also be expected. Tuesday AM is where things get interesting, things become a little more marginal and certainly southern areas are at risk of seeing a wintry mix. The further North and East you are the better, some areas, especially those on higher ground, could see snowfall continue throughout Tuesday and beyond... Enjoy it folks... the specifics can still change, but at least in the shortterm, snowfall for Eastern and Central areas is pretty much nailed on!
  18. Once again, another member seemingly happy to give their opinion without backing it up with any kind of analysis or fact!
  19. Fair do's mate, my reaction was a little to fiery. Just got the feeling you were one of the stereotypical types which thought football could only be enjoyed by the "common folk". Now I've learnt your actually a fan yourself I apologise.. I jumped the gun. Now.. back to weather. LoL
  20. In terms of lying snow days, here in Newark we must be down with some of the lowest in the UK. 04/05 - 1 day(s) 05/06 - 3 days 06/07 - 2 days 07/08 - 2 days 08/09 - 1 day(s) Falling snow hasn't been much better than that, either. We have also not seen a fall exceeding 7cm's since 1991. Sorry, what? :winky: There is so much wrong with that sentence I don't know where to start. Your comments are not just offensive to many, they are also completely misguided and it makes you look comical. Suggesting someone with a higher intelluctual caliber should not be interested in football is a ridiculous idea, I think you need to step out of your bubble and realise that football is not all about hooligans, loud chanting and violence.
  21. Snow reports from family this morning stretched from Derbyshire all the way East into parts of Lincoln.
  22. Just woke up to the odd flake blowing around in the wind here.. I would be described as NE Midlands so kind of surprised to see more than a wintry mix. Not much showing on the radar but perhaps might see an hours fall before sunrise as the band moves across into the Midlands.
  23. Sleet here now with large flakes.. trying to snow. Encouraging news for others who are currently seeing rain, it started as rain here before turning into a wintry mix. Snow to follow shortly I expect.
  24. Woke up to a totally unexpected dusting this morning, everythings white. Currently light snow and temperature hovering at a chilly -2.7C.
