Manchester has seen some heavy and light snow showers all day. Loads of showers this morning, and woke up to a covering. Mostly melted at work in city centre, but roads/pavements and everywhere still covered back in Swinton, Salford (4 miles from centre) - all in all a very wintery day!

GFS 18z PPN charts (for what they are worth) don't show much shower activity overnight, looks to kick off around 3 to 6am and pep up come the afternoon, dying out tomorrow night.
-
Rain in MCR city centre as I left work, but more sleety back in Swinton, Salford - hoping for something after 9pm when uppers start becoming a bit more favourable!

Updated meto warnings for later today and tomorrow. 3 to 7cm at lower levels away from coasts, more over higher ground.

Latest Net-wx home page update includes a video showing lots of snow showers (away from coasts) in our region until late Friday:

Woke up to no snow or wind
Wind has already rattled through, peaked at 60pmh and 70mph in our region and it is currently battering EA and SE (I am originally from East Anglia) where they are seeing gusts in excess of 60mph, causing massive travel problems across that region. Train lines are shut and homes without power.

What wind orientation are we expecting today. Straight Westerly or WNW/North Westerly?
WNW at first, veering more W later though. BBC graphics show graphics piling in over today and tomorrow, hopefully of snow!

Alex Beresford on GMB just said the showers will pile into NW today and turn to snow (all day but pepping up tonight and into tomorrow) and he would be surprised if warnings weren't issued later... hopefully these would be better than Tuesday's!
GFS shows lots of ppn in this region tonight and all day tomorrow into early Sat morning.

I am not hopeful for tonight, but could see snow once it clears and actually GFS shows lots of snow showers for the NW on Friday. Something to look forward to at least, rather than lot of cold rain that could have given us a real dumping!

Temp has dropped down to 2oC again here, very annoying as all that heavier ppn fell as sleet/rain which melted what snow I had!

The latest euro4 4 is massive push north and follows the GFS18z I'm afraid. A trend develdeveloping
Not a trend?! Just one run to be fair. But no one really knows until the front pushes in later today. I am more worried about it not even be cold enough to begin with here!

Rather disappointing. Latest batch of precipitation is delivering rain/sleet. Have warmer uppers arrived, or just modification of the flow from the Irish Sea?
Yes really annoying, waiting all night for the heavier/more organised ppn and it is definitely rain/sleet, not snow.... damn! It was 1oC when I went sleep, now 4oC!

I played iy back and it seemed like from 21.00 hours Wednesday.
That's the ppn tomorrow evening's front, I was referring to the more organised trough of showers heading into our region later tonight

Yes think is the trough feature expected to arrive about midnight, hopefully will produce a decent cover, just an inch would do.
BBC shows the trough hitting us in the early hours from around 1am onwards

Accirding to the GFS right?
Yes, that is 18z GFS which has shifted it further north. Let's hope it is wrong...

Latest on here mate, upgrade! Could do with a slight shift south still.
Yes, from that it looks like a period of snow followed by rain for southern areas of region, I am still hoping for another slight shift south and it could get interesting across the whole region. Regardless, higher ground and further north will do well tomorrow night :-)
