  1. Hey - getting really cold here in the inner suburbs right now , its - 3 degrees here! And the temperature has been falling pretty rapidly in the last hour or two. I wonder what London will get down to tonight , perhaps - 5? would be extremely cold for the capital.
  2. Everyone's got pre-event tension! Ha ha black prince - we thought the same!
  3. The 18z looks like an upgrade for us - lots of snow from the weekend events if it came off as shown ! If only we could take them as gospel!
  4. Not sure what Peter Cockcroft was on about, snow to rain. What data was he using?
  5. yes, at least it's not like last night when westerlys were shown to be crashing through and people were even talking about Bartletts!
  6. i would rather forgo a west-east battleground event if it means we hold onto the easterly, with the possibility of snow from streamers or a possible 91 type event. we could end up with something very dramatic.
  7. Is anyone else totally lost now? I haven't a clue what's going to happen. Does anyone ? Is there any consensus? In a nutshell?
  8. What can we say - seems like it's going to be all over in a day or two, probably with not much than a flurry or two. Very disappointing. Will we EVER get a proper, snowy easterly again? Watch the recriminations begin....
  9. i like your rationale. i just hope you're right! But surely models are programmed to deal with this kind of synoptic, it's not that infrequent in winter is it?
  10. Looks like a big downgrade from the 12z, mild southwesterlies crashing in by Friday, the block sunk. Winter's over!
  11. 3 metres of snow in London would be epic . Supposedly there was one time a couple of centuries ago where there were 5 metre drifts in the west end.....
  12. yes - very good point. i remember in 2005 i think we had a streamer lasting several days - pity that the 850s werent cold enough and although it seemed to snow constantly, it never settled. we shouldnt have that problem this time!
  13. indeed. and forecasts do change quite quickly. remember 2010 when "events" seemingly popped out of nowhere, day after day. "this little feature" "that little feature" seemed to surprise everyone - and it kept on coming. hopefully the same this time !
  14. No - just said Wednesday night would be "very cold indeed" and then did a point summary saying : This week ; 1) cold 2 ) mainly dry. 3 ) hard frosts. + "disappointing for snow fans" .........
  15. BBC 130 weather still playing the " at least it will be dry" "and not -19 like in Russia" tune. downplaying this cold spell big time - i feel they have had egg on their faces too many times of late (most recently the storm that never was!) and are being uber cautious.
  16. you are in a strip which usually does well from thames streamers angled from the north east . the strip extends across most of south and east london, obviously the further south and east you are , the better. new addington and the down slopes got a foot from the streamers last year. havent had time to look so don't know whether wednesday's feature is likely to do be such an event or whether it is coming across a shorter sea track from the south east, if it is , there may be less snow.
  17. Wow - things are starting to look up. It is always the way , get the cold in place first then "events" pop up at short notice - particularly with lake- effect snow type scenarios. hey, we may not get much, but a few flakes would be nice after this extremely mild winter so far.
  18. quite amusing . the gales don't look like happening , the precipitation is going to zip through fairly quickly, and the snow is unlikely now to materialise in any meaningful way. Epic fail from the Met O on all fronts this week!
  19. looks pretty transient to me - i doubt London will see any snow.
  20. i think the point is, the Met / BBC are in meltdown over this system - they don't know what to forecast. It's quite comical to watch really .
  21. i agree it could be dangerous but i don't think it is now particularly dangerous or more so than the scores of other channel lows that have come up in the last 20 years . i think after ranting and raving about extreme weather this week, they realised they'd boobed big style yesterday and started backtracking very quickly. First we were told we'd have extreme wind and rain, now its snow. Peter Cock croft was forecasting 20mph winds for Friday and sleety/snowy weather but we're not really sure what is going to do so we'll just warn for everything type forecast. I was frankly (and i am sure millions of others felt the same) left non the wiser about what to expect in the next couple of days/ As a forecast it was spectacularly vague - other than to say it could do anything ! this after being a dead cert for a double - specifically tuesday and friday - stormy week. The forecasts have become vaguer and vaguer all week. Not the way round it should be, and an embarrassment for the Met Office i believe.
